What the hell am I listening to? Really? Described in the comments as being "Like Sigur Rós on helium", "Post-rock at its most perplexing", "the worst music in the world is actually some of the greatest i have ever heard!", and compared to Brian Eno's An Ending (Ascent), this might go viral.

This isn't something I like, but it is very interesting. The sheer contrast between what life is like in an Irish university and some of the Chirstian universities in America.

So most people will have heard of the so-called Bible-belt and how Christianity is a really big thing in America. But (and I'm not trying to insult or start a big debate with any Christian posters who may be reading this) looking at some of the Christian universities in America disturbs me a little bit.

Take Bob Jones Universiity in South Carolina. The description for their Physics degree says "While offering scientific and philosophical refutation of the theory of evolution, our program teaches each course within a Biblical creationist framework." while teaching Thermodynamics, Statistical Physics alongside Bible Doctrines! :eek:

Now whatever about teaching Creationism to University students (though I think many Christians believe in evolution and would agree that students of Science should not be taught it, as it's complete and utter horseshite) what's even more shocking is the list of rules at this university.
A full list can be found here but here are a few standouts:

*Sideburns should be no lower than the lower opening of the ear. Men are expected to remain clean-shaven.

*Residence hall students may not watch videos above a G rating when visiting homes in town and may not attend movie theaters.

*Some things students can't bring include:
-Posters of movie and music stars and fashion models
-Personal photos exhibiting immodesty or inappropriate physical contact
-Rock, rap, jazz and country music, as well as religious music that borrows from these styles
-Televisions, DVD/videotape players and headphones
-Computer and video games rated above E10 or games that contain graphic blood or gore, sensual or demonic themes, violent first-person shooting, suggestive dress, bad language or rock music

But apparently you're allowed bring a gun! :rolleyes:
*All weapons brought to campus must be turned in for storage. Trigger locks are required for pistols.

The mind boggles!

Another university, Liberty University in Virginia, has it's own 'Center for Creation studies':

an in depth study of the biblical and scientific views of the origin of the universe, life and man. Evidence and arguments for creation and evolution will be discussed.

Now that sounds fair enough, but then read the student aims:

The student will be able to:

Demonstrate a consistent, biblical worldview regarding origins
Explain key scientific evidences and arguments used to support the theory of evolution as well as difficulties with the theory
Provide scientific and biblical arguments in support of creation.

Now maybe I'm naive, but it flabbergasts me that third level institutes in America teach Science courses centred on creationism to aspiring scientists.

(again, this is not an attack on or generalisation of Christianity as a whole, just certain areas of it.)
