Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You get the premium version (full features) free for 30 days, and then you can continue to use the standard version after that for free.

Did you really just say android was flakier than Nokia's recent efforts?

    Yes I did.
Why ask? Are you really so surprised that there is someone who can actually think for himself and disagree with the remainder of the sheep out there?
I don't claim to speak for anyone else except myself - IMHO for my needs and liking it is too flaky.

For the 2 weeks I had the opportunity to try an Android based phone, I found that battery life to be really crap and apps fall over fairly easily. Plus Android really is just a collection of Java based apps cobbled onto a modified linux kernel (very loose description I know. If you want the correct version, look at wikipedia).

If you like Android, good luck and fair play to you. I don't.

Well maybe you should try one of the good android phones, rather than the bad ones? Android is not flakey, some manufacturers screw it up tho. You will probably be able to put android on your N8 soon, so all hope is not lost.

I applied the updates and have had no problems. I'm not using a default theme though.

Have you tried soft resetting the phone?

that is weird, are the photo's still in your address book?

I did remove the bots widget from my phone alright and ended up putting it back on again, pics etc are still there.

If you'd backed up your phone before the update you could always restore it.

A post to this guy might help http://symbianusers.blogspot.com/

Sorry can't be of more help myself.

soon and never are not the same word

Nokias bootloader is the most locked out there and there are about five devs with C++ knowledge who would help

    No chance of other OS

I think I've bought that one - 16GB Sandisk microSDHC memory card w/SD adapter. Went with Sandisk as most web comments seem to suggest going with the old reliable (i hope!)
Will post again after I've tested it.

I had considered the 32GB Integral microSDHC CL4 - but tbh, for my own needs, I couldn't justify the price.

    One comment from another site:

If you'd like the storage capacity of having a 32GB card (I can't get by without mine) then just get one, simply record your video to the internal card and you're good to go. Class 2 makes basically no difference when it comes to in-phone performance, high def video recording would be about the only meaningful case-use scenario, but by recording to the internal memory you can circumvent that issue.

I promised I would post a quick update. The card works well on all fronts. I've played video files thru HDMI on my panny and all good. I can store photos and video direct from the phone camera and both play back perfectly fine. I can copy across from internal E Drive to this external card no probs either. So, all good!:)

Has anyone seen this and tried flashing their phone with it? If yes, did it work ok?

Was thinking of doing it, but has anyone got any update on when the "official" release here in Eire will come out, assuming it will of course?

I know this is going to sound silly but, what do you mean by branded? I got mine on Meteor a while back. The phone itself doesn't have any logos, crappy Meteor based animations etc.
    Ta!

The reason I said i think, was because this isnt an networks model, but an early version realised, so different networks had it, was just mostly on o2 :)

yeah you need to leave it running alright in the settings you can set when you want it to check for mail etc. if you add mail to the home screen it should give you a option to select it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,340 CMod ✭✭✭✭Davy

Just click hide and it will run in the backround. You can set the sync intervals in the options to every 5 mins to 2 hours, and then what days in the sync schedule. Its a bit more adaptive then nokia mail but wont work with as many accounts

any shortcuts to have this on homescreen
new to this social network lark, just doing a study on it
its a bit crappy having to go into the social app to login and get tweets and you have only to operator to choose from on the twitter site which is also crap

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,340 CMod ✭✭✭✭Davy

Ye but least you can have it on trial first, you dont have to throw a tenner away and then not like it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,172 ✭✭✭✭kmart6

Yeah I know that...but €10 for an app kust for twitter is a bit excessive!

Took the plunge and got this phone in the end as it was only 40 quid. I'm coming from an N97 and so far so good with it! :)

    Questions:
    1) Other than two posts way back in the thread I can't find many app recommendations. Let us know if you all have any!
    2) Is there no quick way to link your contacts to facebook etc with the social networks thingy? Seems like I have to do them one by one and the search never finds them that quick.

    Initial Comments:
It's smooth although I have to confess maybe a little bit slower than I expected!
Not having a keyboard will take getting used to after the N97.
Absolutely love having a GPS that finally works and doesn't seem to eat as much battery as N97 did while using it
Watched the demo videos that came on it and quality is excellent.
Battery life seems great so far.
Won't connect to Nokia bluetooth in my car yet which is kinda annoying!
    Camera quality is top notch.
Phone has a lovely "feel" about it!
Will post more when I've played with it more!

hi lads, been following this thread for a while and finally got an N8 myself, good phone a few small problems one of which seems to be the wifi, i'm with 3 and have the 2gb free but when i connect to the wifi at home through the connectivity it always seems to come up connecting to 3(01) and downloading it from my free data, if anyone can help i would appreciate it,
    thanks in advance

Dunno if this will help, but you could try making your WLAN the first-choice access point:

    Settings > Connectivity > Settings > Destinations > Internet

Change the priority of the access points to make your WLAN first-priority: Long-press on your WLAN and choose "Change priority", then tap the first item in the list of WLANs.[/QUOTE]
this is from a krisw posted way back.
    sorry krisw

  • Registered Users Posts: 32 superspark

yes i have the wlan set to priority 1 and 3(01) is priority 2, i have also tried disconnecting 3(01) and then going on through the wlan and it automatically reconnects through 3(01)

Is it all apps or one particular app ? If it's one app then maybe it has stored the connection point somewhere in its settings ?

in settings,(data in home network)set it to wlan only

    there?
donno but i think 01 is sharing priority 1,only thing i can think of you set
    it up wrong.
