I had it done when I was 4 so I can't relate to a lot of the problems you guys had, I only remember it being really sore before hand, and kinda stingy after.

The only real pain I had was one night shortly after the bandage came off when I was sleeping and I woke up with the sheet stuck to me!!!

As regards "hardening" and "lack of sensitivity" I gotta say its definately a little harder, but pretty much like the skin on any other sensitive area of your body. Its still pretty damn sensitive, but just not to the extent that its uncomfortable for it to touch anything.

And I've been told it looks a lot better than the ones with the "hoodies" ;)

This thread has me wondering, my foreskin doesn't retract when I get an erection, this I took no notice for years as I am an only child so had no comparisons, my first gf was a virgin as well so she never commented we have had sex numerous times no issue I did notice my foreskin pulling back over the head if she was forceful at hand relief it was very sensitive (felt weird more than sore)always pulled it back over immediately.... sex with a condom no issue whatsoever, recently we began having sex without and an issue arose in that it wasnt very pleasureable for me as the foreskin retracts, if I enetered her in missionary it was okay after it retracted however I have been too terrified to let her go on top and try..... once it is retracted I am fine, When I am alone I can pull the forceskin back over the head while erect however at this point it feels tight when flacid I can pull it back no problems at all.......my question is and I know this is not a medical board is whether I have a problem or not.....any help would be greatly appreciated

    Hi Guys,

I've just come back from the urologist, so thought I'd update ye. Thanks a million to all those that posted their stories, it really helped to set my mind at ease to be honest, I'm not worried at all about now.

Sor first off, some people were asking if they have the same problem. My problem was that the opening at the top of the foreskin was too small to allow it roll back easily. it was like the skin wasn't elastic enough and it would tear quite easily - obviously that was a problem for me. Also, it's quite difficult to keep clean, and it got itchy a lot. So, if that's the type of thing that's happening to you, it sounds like you've the same thing I have (I wasn't always like this, it's been getting worse for a few years). Best thing is to go see your doctor.

I went to my local GP, who referred me to a urologist, who will do the op, and that's where I was today, for a consultation. GP Visit: a bit awkward, but over in five mins, literally. went in, explained what was happening (which helped to calm me, because the doc. reacted exactly as he should have done, professionally and putting me at my ease). The doc asked me to lower the pants and sit on the table, I did, he looked (he didn't touch me, and i certainly wasn't "standing to attention"! The room was cold!) and said "you need to get a circumcision, here is the guy to call".

Today, I went in to the urologist, he had a look (I lay back, he retracted the foreskin (mine!!) and that was it) and asked a few general questions (blood pressure etc) and that was it. I was probably only in for 10 mins, and it was €150. (that's for info, I'm not giving out - quite the reverse actually).

The op will be in late september. I have diabetes, so I have to stay the night before. Other than that, it sounds similar to what the other lads have posted.

Take it from me lads, don't be embarrasssed. I thought I'd be mortified but honestly, the lingering memory I have of today was how hard it was to get parking. It was obviously a much bigger deal to me than it was to either doc, in the case of the urologist, mine was probably the first in a long line he'd have to look at today!

I'll be back after the op to let you know how it went. The biggest step was going to the GP, just can't wait to be free of it now!

Thanks for that andanotherone - I hope you're not in too much pain! It must feel very stange having the head exposed after so long covered up, what's it like? Is it a bit draughty at all? :D
How do you urinate, is it painful and do you have to replace bandaging every time? If you were in college or working, could you go about your business the next day or day after that?

Also out of curiosity, in eh, what 'state' did the GP examine you, i.e. flacid or otherwise? Do you have to be standing to attention for it to be examined? And you say the problem was the foreskin was too tight - did you consider having a slight cut made in the foreskin, known as a dorsal slit, or other form of partial circumcision? Not that I'm trying to medically research via somebody else - just curious as to whether you had any choice!

For me, paying for it isn't a problem; indeed I'm very surprised it only cost you €60 to go public, plus the doctor - is that all?!
It's just getting to a hospital etc for me, and not in a million years would I touch my local with a bargepole - one of the worst hospitals in the country. So it would have to be the major Drogheda or a Dublin hospital, which proves difficult for the time being! Ah I'll get it sorted soon - just a matter of timing. It seems to be a combination of frenulum breve and a good old fashioned fecker of a tight foreskin - not sure. Perhaps stretching might help in the meantime, though I doubt it at this late stage. An excellent link here of a person's stretching experience for anyone interested:

    http://www.foreskin.org/phi-once.htm

Overall though, you do feel such an idiot for not knowing there was a problem for all those years once you find out, especially after 20! In my case I was certainly aware that something was up, and thought that a doctor had cut away too much when I was a baby as the most likely reason, thinking that the foreskin was designed to cover the glans when erect! Of course I was never touched - but until you research these things, you just accept matters as they are, never having known any different. It's quite a shock when you find out!

    Thanks again andanotherone!

I thought I was the only one in the world with that problem! :( I realised there was something wrong about 3 or 4 years ago, as I'd seen a porn movie and wondered why I couldn't do the same with my penis. Last year I was searching on the net and found out about frenulum breve. I was quite relieved but I was also really concerned as the glans is extremely sensitive (in a bad way) and I thought that it was an irreversable (sp?) problem. I got really depressed about it and I seriously thought I'd never be able to have sex. I am 17 now so I am obviously going to have to wait a few years to get it sorted. There's no way I could tell my parents about it. I'm just so relieved to find out there are others with this problem

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

It's a massively common problem relieved - and one that certainly doesn't always need to be solved by circumcision. Indeed evidence suggests that most doctors in the UK aren't even trained to tell the difference between an unretractable foreskin you've had from birth, and an unretractable foreskin that has been acquired over the years. I don't know if this is the same in Ireland. The former can be difficult to treat as it is caused by a disease, but this comprises only something like 2% of cases. 98% however is acquired phimosis of which it is claimed the vast vast majority can be treated with creams or other conservative methods - we're talking 85%+ here.

These are very broad stats and it's well worth investigating things for yourself, but undoubtedly there is a tradion in the US, UK and Ireland (though less outside the US) of treatting these conditions in a blanket way with circumcision when it is so often not medically required. Many doctors simply prefer to easily solve the problem by making 'the cut', rather than investigate the specific causes underlying your condition. In this respect it is well worth getting a second opinion if you are unhappy.

I know exactly what you're going through re sensitivity relieved - I've been in the same boat for years and it's no barrel of laughs as we know only too well. If you're going to college soon, then is an ideal time to get it seen to, if you're moving away from home - only when you're ready though. I'm regretting not availing of that opportunity of 'cover', now that I've left college and am back at home!

Best of luck with what happens in the future :)

Dude just one thing. Incase you didnt realise it, LOADS of guys are circumsized and girls dont care. Just incase you were anxious about that side of things.

I love being circumcized coz when I get naked I can tell chicks Im a jew, then I laugh and say "nah I hate jews" then they get shocked, then I say, "Im just kiddin Im an atheist, I love jews" then they laugh and we make love. works every time.

What a cheesy line! oh hang on, it can't be, you're circumsized...

Frankly, I would feel weird getting a circumcision, I would miss that part of me. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20 Delta_Golf

I too believe I may need a circumcision! I have been worried about it now for years. At first I thought there was something wrong with me as I knew my penis looked and behaved differently to what I saw in a porn!

Putting a condom on is very uncomfortable. I now avoid it and even avoid getting intimiate with women over it. It has led to depression and loss of sex drive and a case of Mr. Floppy.

I dread, with horror, having to go to the doctor and pull my pants down. Even reading through some of the previous posts makes me squirm. I couldn't even finish some of them.

    :(

Jaysus lads, this has been bothering me a long time, cant believe so many othe fellas are in the same boat. I'm now 25 and am very apprehensive about the whole thing even though I know it'd best.

I've always kind of put it off cos I wasnt gettin much nookie, however like Dublin Bus,waiting for ages and nothing, then all of a sudden, chicks are queing up!! Last Monday had very drunken sex and the same oul problem, foreskin too tight to completely roll back but manged as usual. I'm just thinking how much better it'd be if I got the chop. I'm just too scared of the pain!!

So seriously, how sore is it after the operation and for how long do you dread touching the newly exposed head off anything?

I remember after a mammoth sex session a while ago, my cock hurt so bad cos the skin had finally loosened up and pulled back so it was fullly exposed for the first time. The next morn we'd to meet a load of friends for brunch and I was walking like Johyn Wayne and couldnt move from my seat.

Anway that pain is still in my mind? Will it be that bad if I get a circumcision?

Fook it lads, I'm off to the doc to sign up. If anyone could comfort me by saying the pain isnt that bad and you'll be grand in a day or two, please be encouraging!!!!!

    What he said^

I had to have the school nurse, yes, a 148 year old woman! examine me over a blow to this *area* when I was in 6th year. It was worse because it happened during hurling training and she had to come out to the pitches:eek: ! Anyway, I survived that ordeal, so you've got nothing to worry about.
Go to a male GP and it shouldnt be awkward at all.

be aware of something called bxo also lads. i had to have a couple of inches removed. aparently it can get so serious they have to take the lining from your cheek to replace the pipe in your trumpet but the doctor told me to stop reading horror stories on the internet. a week after the op i went back to my gp before going back to work. he cried for the sweet devine intervention of jesus when he saw it. he's arabic. i got another week off work and a dose of antibiotics. i thought it was normal for the stitches to rip with erections at night. to cut a long story short, all is ok now. a bit of a loss of sensation but still as horny as ever. and i'm down to a more modest 9.25 inches and noww i can fit into all kinds of spaces no woman would let me before. happy daze...

come off it boys and girls, if there's something up with the water works get it sorted before it turns into a sewer! i'd have even preferred a female doctor. the nurses ya deal with are way more kool to deal with. apart from one incident. a nurse was cleaning around my bed when i woke up and all i was wondering is (nothing to do with her femine form) what would happen if i got a boner. i asked her. she went away shocked and a team of nurses came marching back to "inspect" my dick in a sling. just a curious thing i thought about later, they were trying to put me back in my box or something. also i thought i had shat myself when i saw my bed, but it was just iodine splashed on my crotch and bed clothes during the op. just do it folks, experience it, it is what it is. once you walk through the doctors door for the first time everything else happens by itself. oh, just remember one thing if you get the full knock-out gas, as you wake up cry to the nurses "oh the pain, the PAIN, woe is me". you prolly wont be in any but best just to buy yourself some time with another jab in the butt til you get your bearing back and build up the courage to pee again.

hi, i'm not sure what this is but i'll post anyway:

my foreskin does not cover the head of my penis. even when not erect. it covers UP to the head. It can be pulled over (awkward) but doesn't stay over. When erect it goes back completely.

    Is this normal??

I have the same problem as many of you. The foreskin is very tight and I have never been able to pull it back fully, not even close! Lately it has loosened up SLIGHTLY, so I think before I make a rash decision like going to the doc I will try the stretching exercises. It is very embarrasing and I think as soon as I go back to college I will make an apointment with the college doc and see what they have to say on the matter.

Assumming you mean tip instead of head, I understand this is relatively common, i.e. a poloneck, not a balaclava. If it doesn't cause any problems, I wouldn't worry too much.
When erect it goes back completely.
If this isn't painful, you should be fine.

If you are worried, just mention it to your doctor, the next time you are in.

If you're comcerned, just go to the Doc, they won't judge you or anything, it's their job!! There are some cases in which you need to get it sorted!! If you leave it too long it can actually affect your chances of having kids!!! 2weeks since my op and I'm fine, running around and allsorts!! Stitches are still in but they just have to fall out, can't wait now as I'm hoping my sex life can start up again soon!!

the foreskin excessively attached to the head?

I think this be whats wrong with me, the foreskin will pull back but it all kind of gathers just below the head and is quite tight. I think the foreskin is attached to the head on the underside. Does anyone know anything about this? or where I could get more info? I'm still a virgin so I dont know if it will cause pain during sex but it can make cleaning it uncomfortable and while erect it can feel quite tight also.

It is attached by the frenulem, many people have one. If it is too short it will restrict your foreskin from coming back. You'll have to have sex to see if it hurts. If you bleed or feel a tear, don't worry, it is minor, you'll be fine.

oh it's happened.... it has pulled back once or twice, didn't realise till i pulled out... the sight of it scared the SHíT outta me hahahaha.... Weird feeling, not painful, just tight and the head is VERY sensitive to touch.

So i guess, it does pull back, but needs lots of.. erm... lube? It's not so easy otherwise tho...

I'd just like to point out that this thread is a real eye-opener for me; I never knew there was more diversity than circumsised/uncircumsised out there. Thanks for everybody who posted!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

Yup, there are a number of other options available to full-blown circumcision, and really ought to be tried (in the majority of cases) before any radical action is taken. Notably steriod cream/gel can prove massively effective, especially when combined with stretching. The cream/gel thins the skin, making it more plyable and allowing it to more freely move over the head, and is generally a permanent solution. If you have only slight tightness, the problem can be substantially in a matter of days in many cases! For tight cases it will take longer and may require some a lot of stretching, but is certainly worth considering trying for 4-6 weeks ebfore even contemplating going the surgical route.

Another option to consider is a partial circumcision, should medicinal applications prove unsuccessful. This involves removing the tight band of skin from the top of the foreskin, and rejoining the cut parts - obviously minus the offending ring. This often results in a partial exposure of the head of the penis when flacid, but is still worth considering if you want to keep your foreskin - some men afterall are born this way, with a short foreskin.

These and other options like frenulplasty (the freeing up of a tight frenulm via relatively minor surgery), are all matters to be discussed and explored with your consultant.

What does that cream do? Just make the skin looser or help with the incredible sensitivity too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

Alas it only helps with the skin Tar.Aldarion, though this generally includes the aiding of the frenulm too if it's just a little too short - it stretches it as well as the foreskin. I've discovered this through someone who is applying the gel as we speak and it is proving hugely successful, and literally over the course of the weekend out of what is a month-long treatment! This is an unpleasant, but not severe case.

However as you mention, and a BIG issue in my case too, I don't know how I'd possibily deal with the sensitivity of the newly exposed head. It's all very well and good to say you just have to get used to it gradually, but from a starting point of hitting the roof every time it is so much as tipped, one would wonder how the hell you get over that initial hurdle! I've no idea.
Perhaps a GP could prescribe a second anti-sensitivity gel...

A lot of irresponsible misinformation on here.

Firstly, you're perfectly sensitive after the operation. Maybe less so, I don't know as I was circumcised as a baby, but still perfectly functional.

Secondly, a circumcised penis is cleaner than an uncircumcised one. Smegma and all that other crap doesn't build up under the foreskin. My ex-girlfriend said it was a joy giving me oral sex due to the fact that I was circumcised... which was a bonus :D

Mind you, I find I prefer sex with someone who is uncircumcised because the foreskin provides some extra... I dunno how to describe it... lubricating action? There was less friction, with looser skin.

Aye, no point in getting that suff, making it come down, then finding out I can't have sex anymore, as being touched would make me curl in a ball. Heh.

after the foreskin comes back/removed you are very sensitive for a while but not too long.i'm on my 5th week now after circuncission and for teh first few day while it was very sensitive it wasnt that bad brushing off clothes or anything after about a week or so i didnt even notice.
It's just one of teh sacrifices you have to make if you want the skin to rollback/removed.

    out of curiousity.

do you guys mean tight as in cant roll foreskin back completely?

i have a problem where if i have sex in more that 2-3 sittings in one or two days my foreskin can split or cut causing considerable pain, where as 2-3 years ago i didnt have this problem at all...

would this also fall into the same catagory?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

I was a virgin until this summer, and never considered circumcision too much. Then I got a steady girlfriend and, of course, the relationship eventually led to intercourse.

Anyways, my foreskin is quite tight; I mean it is pretty much unable to roll back at all without causing a bit of pain to me. When having sex and sustaining an erection the foreskin would remain covering the head and I would have sex in this way. Once or twice (possibly due to condom application) it did roll back a bit during sex and left me in a bit of pain.

Anyways I was wondering, is this normal for the foreskin to still completely cover the head during erection and intercourse or should I start to consider circumcision? I wonder is this leading to a loss of stimulation for me during sex?

    Any help?

If your foreskin is painful to completely retract then you need to speak to a doctor. you should not be suffering that much.

4weeks today since the op, everything is fine now really!! the stitches are supposed to dissolve but they were coming out a bit so I had a pull @ a few of them because they were just irritating esp since the skin around it had grown back.

All my skin is ok to touch now, just under the head is a little bit red soon but hopefully it'll be the same colour soon enough!! Not much left to happen now really I guess but any questions about the op and recovery etc feel free to ask! :)

Where are you guys getting your circumcisions done?

I'm scheduled to have it done in Mullingar, St. Francais Private Hospital in a few weeks.

The urologist is recommending frenuloplasty, as my frenulum is too tight, but I'm thinking I'll opt for the full blown circumcision.

(Not for cosmetic reasons. I've been putting off getting anything done on this for years and stupidly avoided relationships and just want to get it over and done with for good.
I'm convinced doctors will only recommend the minimum necessary treatment, and I really don't want to have to go back in another few months for another penis operation)

I just hope it doesn't mess my dick up. I'd really like to get the best guy/girl out there to do it so there's no fear of a screw up, but don't know enough people in the scene so have to rely on my GPs recommendation.

I've been reading about different circumcision styles on the internet.
    E.g High and Tight

    http://www.circlist.com/styles/nicecuts.html

This has me confused as the Urologist didn't even mention the possibility of "style" to me in the consultation.

it is I, tbh! *raises galsses*

yep, no point in going unregged anymore, had the op yesterday :) Just wanted to give my id in case anyone readiing had questions, and it also seems that many are embarrassed like I was, so anything I can do....

I went in early cause I've diabetes so I'll just give you the relevant details - went down to the op theatre, and got a general anasthetic - my first. AS soon as the guy injected me, I felt like my blood had been replaced with warm water, started looking at the clock, it was 10:50, closed my eyes, opened them again and it was 1:10 - seriously, it was just like that. I couldn't feel anything except an itchy nose. Had a glance down and saw penis bandaged, I literally could not believe it. The sugeon had been nearby and saw I was awake, came over and told me it had gone really well, and I could go back to the ward - I honestly could not feel a thing. went back and had a sleep, when I woke up it was a little bit tender, but not painful - just sensitive. In my sleep last night, I guess because of expansion and contraction, the bandage came off, and today, just home, it's a little bit sensitive still. It doesn't look bad at all (not braggin or anything :) ) just feels a little sensitive, and the odd time it aches a bit, but seriously, nowhere neer as bad as I thought it was going to be. I'm just more tired than anything else. I can't believe it's all over and dealt with! again, thanks to the lads who posted advice, honestly I wouldn't have gone to the docs if you hadn't, and I'm so glad I did, not to overstate things, but it has changed my life.

if anyone has any questions they don't want to raise here, pm me. Believe me, I know it's hard to talk about ;)

thanks a lot lads, and ikol, I re-read your advice the night before and it helped a lot, so cheers man. As for advice, I'm obviously no expert but as I say, if you want to know what my experience was like it's on the thread or pm me. One of the things that surprised me was the amount of people replying, I've never really heard any lads talk about this before - of course I wouldn't bring it up myself, so why would anyone else? but it's obviously something that affected more people that I realised.

edit: when I got home my sister had bought me a t-shirt saying "everyone loves a jewish boy"! ;)

I would really like to hear what womens views are on this subject. I mean do they prefer if a fella is circumcised or does it not matter ....???

I prefer to have intercourse with a bloke who isn't in pain. Other than that, I really don't mind one way or the other (and I've taken an extensive survey!)

There is a very, very large range of "normal" in the penis department, just as there is in the vulva/labia department, and I wish men were more self-accepting about themselves. Polonecks, baklavas, roundheads, caveliers... it really makes no difference to me - just as long as it doesn't cause pain.

I had my op 8 days ago.......

today in the middle of the day, i went for a piss and found my pants covered in blood........

Anyone suffer from bleeding post op?

I had a bit, but not so much I'd use the term 'covered' - just a tiny bit. I think it's the stitches starting to come out (PLEASE GOD!), it seems to have stopped now anway.

Just thought I'd give an update for those who have been following: Tomorrow it'll be two weeks since the op, and I'm amazed at how much better I am. No pain, no bleeding, no discomfort whatsoever - I'm very nearly in the same state as I was before I got the op done, but much better obviously. I kind of thought that the state I was in after the op would be the state - pretty much - that I would always be in, and I would just get used to it, but it's nothing like that, it's totally fine.

hey, its day 11 for me since the op. I was wearign briefs for the last 11 days which made life a bit more bareable. Started wearing boxers again this morning. Still as sensitive as ****. Plus the head keeps sticking to my legs!!!! Bleeding is all but a dribble now and then i assum efor the stitches. Loads of stitches still in tach.. havent disolved yet. Swelling is still bad but gone down a lot.....

Can u relate to this or have u had a different story?

the main change in me is that I used to wear boxers, but wear shorts now :)

Let me just say Brum, the weekend made a huge difference for me - on Friday, I was 50% recovered, by sunday it was 90% - huge change in two days. I don't know if that's the norm, but that's how it went for me - first 10 days or so was very slow progress, and then it's like my healing mechanism 'woke up' and kicked in big style. It's not sensitive at all now - well, it is from time to time, but I'm not aware/concious of it at all - if you'd told me that on Friday last I wouldn't have believed you.

I've not had any bleeding at all yet - just a bit of spotting. I think the first stitch came out, but it seems like all the other stitches are still there, however they are not sore at all and look like they'll be out soon. the swelling is totally gone, and I think that makes a big difference - I'm able to pee standing up again! it's a gradual process but it looks like once you are over the 'tipping' point, as I was on Friday, it's grand. Of course, I may be very lucky, or you may be very unlucky (it's never stuck to my leg!!) but that's the way it went for me.
