Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Very impressive from Cork City over the past few weeks. They really have stepped up a gear and confidence is sky high.

Ordinarily City would be well clear at the top with the points tally they have.

If they can come away from Oriel Park unscathed next Tuesday evening I think they will win the league.

Would be great to have 4 or 5 thousand at the Cross next Friday. Possibly to see City go top.

Hopefully they will be there go see city stay top!

    True!

I'm seeing a draw Tuesday night realistically, and Dundalk losing to Shamrock next Friday.

You mean more or less the same schedule we have? Sure yeah if we win it then it can only be down to Dalk been tired

I'd settle for city winning Tuesday and Dundalk losing to rovers on Friday.

    Aim high!!!;)

We passed the ball in the Sligo match to death. If you boys turn up at all on Tuesday and we play like did in defence against both Rovers than its done and dusted.

Just 5 games to go - winning the league looks highly unlikely now. We needed a draw tonight at the very least.

Well that's that. A horrific performance from all the starting xi. I have to question the teams mentality again. A big game like that and we don't bother showing up.

    So disappointed.

    Awful awful awful.

    Players bottled it

How much of tonight can be put down to the pitch? It's a disgrace that professional footballers should have to play on that.

Sligo won 3-0 there the last time so we can't blame the pitch.

But the pitch is an absolute fúcking joke nonetheless.

Thought we came back well after conceeding the first but allowing Horgan to get to the edge of the box before closing him down was criminal defending. If we got a draw we would have robbed them completely.

Don't think the league is gone yet though, not with the run in they have as I expect them to drop points , 1 draw and a loss for them could be enough for us to slip in, but the real chance was tonight and we were well beaten by a far better team performance. Their first half performance would have blown any team away.

None. 2 teams had to play on it. We beat them on it earlier this season.

Another opportunity to go top has been passed up. We wont get another this season. Have to question the teams mentality again. And indeed the manager. Bringing on Dave Mulcahy, a 38 year old centre back when we are chasing a game to keep us in a title race? Well done

Very disappointing defeat. City always seem to bottle it when it matters. The Mayo of League of Ireland :(. When ever we lose to Dundalk away we can't keep making the pitch as an excuse. We've played on it a number of times and won up there earlier in the year. What's done is done and roll on Finn Harps on Friday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,346 ✭✭✭✭SteelyDanJalapeno

As said in the other thread, It's not bottling it if the team you are playing is simply better than you, that just has to be accepted sometimes.

5 wins for City and 3 wins + 2 draws for Dundalk and we could nick the title on goal difference. Stranger things have happened but we really should have fought for a draw last night.

I could see the logic in that, allowed us to push the two fullbacks much much further up the pitch. Went 3 at the back, 2 wingers, 2 up front and 1 in the hole. It's as many attackers as I'd seen them play in a long time.

Good 2-0 win tonight in ridiculous conditions, particularly the second half. 2026 in attendance which is good considering the awful conditions.

I'm glad we won because it would have been a shame if the league would have been won as a result of dropping points in a game with such ridiculous conditions as that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

Worst conditions I've seen at a game. Farcical. The ref wanted to abandon but both benches persuaded him to keep playing.

Good win in impossible conditions. Just a shame the other fûckers didn't slip up

A super crowd considering result on Tuesday and conditions.

Never been at game like it in Ireland.

While the league is probably gone, we have to win all the games and hope Dundalk slip up at least once so we take it to the last day. If they have it won by then, it'll allow them to play an entirely second string team and rest their first team ahead of Russia and the Cup Final. At least if we're within two points going into the last game, it'll mean they'll have to start with a strong team to ensure they don't slip up. That'll have them playing the Friday, Thursday and then the Sunday - maybe the Tuesday before the last league match, too, to tire their lads out a bit more before Lansdowne.

We messed up in Oriel, but the lads can at least restore a bit of pride by going into the final with five wins on the bounce.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,741 ✭✭✭Worztron

That's all folks. Any chance we could get Stephen Kenny to become the next manager of CCFC?

Pats are a dead duck. They have no support.

More worrying is the 2 or 300 who showed up to support Dundalk.

Same old sh*t of having a hatful of chances but not being able to score enough. Three cleared off the line, two hit the post, about 8 corners in the first half alone. The ref was woeful. Bermingham, on a yellow, stuck out his hand to stop an attack and somehow stayed on the pitch. From the resulting free kick, they handled in the box and we got nothing. That was at 1-1. We should've been out of sight by the time they scored, though. Buckley absolutely shocking for two of the goals. Gave the ball straight back for their first, lost the ball then fouled (I think) to concede the penalty for the third. Should've been taken off instead of Holohan. Bolger very poor, as well.

So frustrating that the league season is just going to fizzle out like last year. Whilst the title was probably gone anyway, we could've still made Dundalk work for it. Instead they'll be able to rotate their entire team for the 3 league games in 6 days, knowing they can lose two of them, and be fresh as daisies ahead of Russia away and the cup final.

That's that. Very disappointing to not push them all the way.

A final defeat would be another disaster whereas a win would mean so much. LAt least we have something to play for.

Well done to your under-19. Good to see them progress.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,527 ✭✭✭Paz-CCFC

That's a magnificent achievement by the lads. Huge learning curve for them in the future. This squad has 3 or 4 capable of breaking through (Ogbene already has, tbh). For them to have this European experience will benefit the senior side no end in future runs.

The dates for Roma are 2nd of November away and 23rd at home. Pity we're not at home first. Think we could've pushed 3,000+ on the attendance. Would expect Roma to be well up from the first leg, but I suppose we'll still probably get 2,500 out just because of the name. If our lads came away with a win from the first leg, we'd have a massive crowd altogether at home!

Just to point out tonight's attendance of 1,287 was bigger than both of Monday night's senior league fixtures combined. Some going by an U19 side to draw that kind of crowd.
