    Torres - Sprinter
A far better album than her debut. Some songs rock your socks off and others are beautifully depressing.

Florence and the machine-How big how blue how beautiful (awful title)

I was worried about this cos everyone kept going on about it being stripped back but it's brilliant. Especially with the brass. Mother is a stand-out right now, Jefferson airplane vibes. And the stripped back tracks are nice as well, to my surprise, let's her show what she can do with her voice without having to go full on roaring.

I got the deluxe version and I'm surprised which witch got left as a demo, it's huge.

However Lungs is still top in my books

I really liked Kin but I'm seriously digging her new album. Great if you want a weird synth-pop fix.

I was looking forward to this, adore her earlier work but this is just not sticking with me for some reason. I'll have to give it another go

New Sun Kil Moon album released a few days ago. There's a stream here:

    http://www.sunkilmoon.com/skmuniv2015/

Have only listened to it once, so can't really comment. It continues from Benji but veers in a couple of different directions.

    Jamie xx - In Colour.

    Amazing album.

I'm loving 'Loud Places' at the moment.

Loving Gemma Hayes' new one. Never thought I'd ever say that again.

Same. Adored her debut, and loving this new one. The albums in between were subpar, to say the least, but I remember her saying in an interview once (I think it was on the TV3 morning show) that she wasn't happy with them herself either and only made them because of pressure from her record company.

I've really enjoyed Bones + Longing though.

I'm really liking the new Algiers album. An interesting mix of gospel type vocals with a noisey punk sound.

Me too. Algiers is a part of New Orleans, which explains the southern bluesy cajun influences.

The new Chelsea Wolfe album 'Abyss' is nothing short of perfection. Took a few listens to grow on me, and now its not only grown but permanently set its roots in my jaded ears.

New Tame Impala album is incredible

New Beach House album - Depression Cherry, being released in a couple of days. I've only heard 'Sparks' so far, but quite enjoyed it. It will be interesting to see have they strayed much from the sound of the previous two albums.

Speakerzoid from Aussie band The Jungle Giants, bit of a departure from their earlier stuff but well worth a listen.

two recent albums have rescued the british guitar band tradition which had become stale and irrelevant in recent years according to sunday times

they are new ones from maccabees and foals

Have listened to some of the new foals tracks and am impressed, maccabees album hasn't bowled me over just yet

Ezra Furman - Perpetual Motion People. A really enjoyable, infectious album.

One of the best singles of the year.

Good day for new albums ... Beach House, Foals - not listened to either yet

Also Destroyer - Poison Season ... This is sounding fantastic so far! (Different to Kaputt)
Anybody who hasn't heard Destroyer should check out either album!

Kaputt was a breakthrough for them ... after 9 previous albums?!? Love stories like that

Just giving 'Depression Cherry' a listen now. High hopes.

Have listened to this quite a lot in the past couple of days - it just seems to wash over me, not in a memorable way.
    Hoping it's a grower.

Yeah understated is the word. Sounds nice, and Beach House are always good, but not very memorable. Works very well as a whole I think, but individual tracks maybe less so...

Gave it a few listens today. Production is really nice, but nothing standing out so far. Still have high hopes though. Will get plenty of listens over the next few weeks.

Depression Cherry is a definite grower. Took me 7 or 8 listens but now it is really turning into something. Space Song, Beyond Love, Wildflower and Bluebird are the stand outs for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,465 ✭✭✭Anesthetize

Depression Cherry is good but doesn't leave a big impression on me. If this was the first Beach House album I heard I would more than likely love it and play it to death. But having heard all their discography up to this point, hearing Depression Cherry doesn't have much impact on me. I was really hoping they would pull a surprise out of the bag rather than deliver more of the same.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 277 ✭✭iomega

I only bought it yesterday and so far have only listened to side 1.

Bloom for me is still the perfect Beach House album.

New Yo La Tengo is quality - their last couple of records have really been a return to form imo.

Not so much new as cobbling together stuff that's been lying around and reworking of old tracks. It is lovely though. 'Deeper Into Movies' - been playing it on a loop.

Sexwitch is Natasha Khan (Bat for Lashes) and members of Toy. This album consists of covers of world folk tunes and made to sound dark, twisted and very hypnotic.

Best Irish album since Loveless for me. Don't think I'll be playing much of anything else for a while!

100% agree. It's fantastic. Caught them twice at EP this year. They are savage live.

The surprise is that there's a new album or that it sounds different to what they've done before?

Very surprised to see Beach House releasing a second album this year. Depression Cherry was already more of the same. Is their new album going to be even more of the same or are they going to surprise us with a crust punk album?

I hope they haven't done a bit of a "use your illusion" release 2 okay albums instead of one great one.

I really like Depression Cherry, especially side 1.

    Beyond Love is great https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wy5iwc1NwXg

Any recommendations for good new indie/rock?

Something riffy with a bit of distortion or killer hooks?
