Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That's based on the old cut from 1980. The director's cut is supposed to be much, much better.

There's some very critical reviews of the re-cut version as well, but I don't mind as long as the author has actually watched the film. A lot of the articles you'll read about Heaven's Gate are just re-hashed 'production hell' stories, with very little critical analysis. I'd love to read that Empire article to see what their approach was, but I have my suspicions.

Sarah's Key is on film 4 tonight at 1:30. A film about a reporter investigating what had happened to a deported Jew family during the war. It's in both English and French. This is a very good film that a lot of people haven't seen.

Rope is on BBC 2 tomorrow at 1pm, a terrific Alfred Hitchcock film, although the man himself wasn't as pleased with it.

John Dall is brilliant in it, worth it just for his performance imo and the long takes Hitchcock used really makes for a visually interesting watch (even to non cinema buffs like myself)

North by Northwest on BBC 2 at 3pm, more classic Hitch.

Then tonight at 9.20pm Alan Partridge - Alpha Papa with Cromer and Norfolk showing some lovely backdrops!

    It's so baaaad it's good.

I wonder will they dub out the bit where the bad baldy calls one of the lads a 'fcuking wamker". It's been done before to comedic levels of ineptitude.

RTE2, 21:15 Saturday: Insomnia. Discussed in this thread - strong perfomance including Al Pacino, Robin Williams and Hilary Swank.

Cube is on tonight on the Horror Channel @9pm. Hard to believe that was made way back in 1997.

The "True" cluster channels are not an obvious recommend as a rule and I would wonder about the quality of the screenings but they have upped their game in recent weeks.

Tonight in the small hours - 1 am True Movies 2 are showing the Marriage of Maria Braun which is one of Fassbinders most acclaimed films.

While True Entertainment are showing Far From the Madding Crowd at 9 PM tonight.

    Sunday

The Wipers Times 9 PM True Entertainment - first shown on BBC Two (or Four), a really good comic-drama about the daily newspaper as written and read by British army troops on the Western Front during WW1.

La Grande Illusion (1937) Dir Jean Renoir

Generally considered one of the finest films ever made, nationalism and class played out in the context of a war.

Is to be found on Film ON channel freesat 410, not sure of the Sky number. I won't give a time as it pops up regularly but its after midnight as a rule.
