Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yeah leaderboard was the game that got my oulman liking games.
A classic and i don't think golfing games now a days have strayed far from the formula.

Remember when you hit the water and the game created a special island for you to hit your next ball off.
Always a highlight for me and my bros..we called it a jutter
    used to like Leaderboard
Spent a massive amount of pre-pub-cans-drinking-time with my mates playing PGA II on the meg when I was in my twenties
Ended up playing MS Golf 3.0 (which is the great grandson of leaderboard as it happens) when I got my first PC years ago.
I played a fair bit of an odd freeware golf/ether induced halluctination game called "Golf?"

Oddly enough I can't stand real world Golf.

Well, I've seen it kicked enough times, playing Boulder Dash!

That swing animation is pretty decent/realistic in Leaderboard isnt it?

Tis almost on "par" with Prince of Persia rotoscoping, well as good as you can get for a golf game on the c64 anyway!

Being the sad little immature git I was when I was 4/5,
I used to break my hole laughing anytime my old man ended up in the drink,
I used get a great kick out of tiny floating platform your player would stand on afterwards!

Thankfully, playing golf that was the only time he would end up "in the drink!"

    yup it went back up
TBH I'm probably going with plan B for some of the older non dosbox friendly games .(win 98 era laptop outputting to S-video, then vidcapped).

Just watching through all these now...great stuff, very enjoyable

Can't believe you said Rise of the Robots looks good. It looks like absolute ass.

Also I keep hearing from a lot of people that only had PCs during the 90's that One Must Fall is great but I thought it was a pretty poor street fighter clone. Definitely not Rise of the Robots bad but still not great.

I still reckon that it doesnt look that bad , and it has nothing else going for it! . Going to be doing a few pc games soon so will look at o.m.f. Bearing in mind there were some terrible fighting games for the pc at the time I remember it being decent though.

Not really retro but a game that hopefully will interest some people here.

Nier is probably the most under rated game of this generation. Ignore the mediocre reviews, it's one of the most fascinating games this generation with some stellar narrative, writing and acting performances. Also by far and away the best soundtrack for a videogame in years:

NOTE: This is captured directly from my Saturn. No poncy emulation here, no sir! :)

I always thought Pac Land was such a bitch of a game when I was kid,
I remember playing it in an arcade over in Cyprus or somewhere and sucked at it.

I love the witty jokes you throw in your videos, and the way you move alone quickly after after dropping one, as if you think they're sad or something! :D

Which controller are you using for your emulators?

It sounds like a noisey arcade stick or something!

Cheers mate :)Half the time I'm concentrating so much on whatever the game is that I've no idea what I'm saying , so if any of its getting a laugh I'm happy.
I've been trying to record audio 'live' as much as I can ,as opposed to rerecording it after as commentary.(narrating it is the slicker more polished and to be honest , sane way of doing it , but I really like people hearing exactly what I'm thinking as I play..its a bugger to do though :))
the joystick is a hori fighting stick 3 , its a great stick but damn noisy as hell , really must change it , and oil the joints in my desk chair as well , thats nearly as loud!

    Perfeck soundtrack man....

Of course, when the nerd in me hears a waltz I kinda expect to see something docking with something else....

Are you like one of those Christian Evangelists, but for Darius?

"Hmm, that was a lovely dinner, the crisp layer on the Creme Brulee was just exquiste, reminds me a bit of Darius Blast...."

Not retro, but retro styled, a review of Retro Game Challenge for the DS. One of the best games on the system and a love letter to the Famicom. It's actually a licensed game of GameCenter CX, the excellent japanese videogame show that I definitely didn't discover and Sera takes all credit for:

Please don't get rid of the clicky joystick! :D

I think it gives the videos a bit of chracter!

And it also re-enforces the live experience, as we can hear each move being executed! :)

Getting a good X86000 emu going can be a bit of a pain, PM me if you need help.

Also please rip into the Saturn port as well. It's a dreadfully emulated version of the arcade game by Probe software during the era that they were turfing out awful ports of the Mortal Kombat games. It has lots of bugs including one that won't let you pick up the second 'E' to get an extend. This was also a bug with early mame emulation of the game.

aha , will deffo look at that .if I remember rightly , by that stage Taito had apparantly lost the source code to bubble bobble , and Probes stuff was done the old fashioned way by just playing an arcade board over and over.
In fairness theres a freakin' ton of weird quirks and weird physics to BB , that makes it quite hard to port really faithfully.
