Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That club on GUI website does no longer have a licence to play on the CITYWEST hotel property. There is a new club up there under name CITYWEST resort golf club. Awaiting affiliation.

"citywest golf club" is no longer in operation. its administrative structure has also been kicked to the kerb in the sense that the new club is now run totally by members.

the new club, "citywest resort golf club", is now under the control of members voted in at a recent agm. its application for GUI affliation has been submitted and is due for approval, from what im told, in the immediate future. it is, im told, a formality.

for those of us who have been members of citywest for years and have had to endure the workings of the individual named above... this new arrangement is very welcome news indeed.

i dont believe so. its not on the NAMA list.

mansfield properties on the NAMA list : Weston Aerodrome, Palmerstown House Golf Club and six apartment blocks beside the Citywest Hotel.

however a receiver was appointed to HSS Limited circa july 2010. HSS propeties include the citywest hotel, conference & golf complex.

It is leaed out to the dalton hotel group for 15years. They own all the maldron hotels.

doesnt inspire confidence does it? especially as one of the maldron hotels belongs to nama now.

oh well, fingers crossed it'll be a better run venture than the previous sham of a set-up.

Golf membership rates around Dublin continue to be expensive, despite the recession – but for how long?

To get an indication of how much we are out of step, I’ve just done a comparison of average 7 Day prices near Dublin against those within reach of Belfast (using rates in this thread and http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056568076).

With so many clubs competing for declining numbers of golfers, seems that the golf membership market, like the housing market, hasn’t bottomed out quite yet:

Maldron don't actually own any of the hotels that they operate from. They merely lease the buildings and the associated rights to run a hotel in them. Most of the Clarions in the country run on the same basis.
The only change from the buildings going into Nama is that Maldron pay their rent to somebody else.

Most clubs if you contact them will do a deal. I know that in my club you would get full membership for four people for 2200 euro (550 per head).

Dun Laoghaire now offering membership with no hello money according to the Irish Times yesterday 3rd April so it can be put on this thread. They have created a new category with no hello money but the potential member had to be over 63 years old, so I am not sure if this is the category that can join with no joining fee.

I believe Old Conna are doing Temporary Full Membership, no Hello Money, but for 1,500 per year. Full membership is 5,000 Hello Money and only 1,100 for subs per year.

Corrstown is missing from the lists, they also have a family membership which can be taken out by 2 adults for the price of 1.6 of a full membershop, so get two subs for about 2k plus bar levy/gui etc. It covers brothers/in-laws etc from what the office told me.

The clubs put the customer first as regards value for money deserve to survive, as the days of just hiking up prices and levying existing members are fast drawing to a close.

Sorry but I'm not sure what the 4th and 5th paragraph had to do with Corrstown missing off the list, but their rate hasn't change, still 1229 plus 150 bar levy plus GUI.

But I'll mention it to the committee that the rates should be available on the site and I accept you're point, but I guess the reason its not publish is due to it been a different rate depending on what time of year you joined which is designed to benefit the consumer in this case.

I don't disagree with most of what you've said and have nothing against any club, including Corrstown.

My point is that potential customers need to have easy access to club membership rates to make their buy decisions as easy as possible. As I see it, not publishing rates is putting a barrier in the way of some peoples' decision making process.

I'm quite sure clubs can find a solution to this issue, even if they have variable rates. Other businesses have done this but some golf clubs, for various reasons, have shown signs of being slow to adapt to changing market circumstances.

In the battle for survival, clubs need to avoid the old route of higher than necessary prices. Therefore, the sooner they make it as easy as possible for new members to join and existing members to stay, the better for both clubs and members.
