Someone dev really needs to get the finger out and make an MMO with Teras combat, GW2's levelling system and PvP and WoW's endgame content!! :pac:

I think we'll start seeing most big budget MMO's leave the old school click methid behind, and move to a more dynamic version like this. While i only played for a while, it really did put most other games to shame in regards to the combat. Would love to see Blizzard go for something like this (or better) with Titan.

I saw that someone mentioned the clothes of the Elin. Personally I find the Castanics way worse. Elin do NOT look like little kids...if a child of mine had child-bearing hips like this, i would be worried! Never have a look at the original Korean armours btw, they have even less cloth :)
I was going to google a picture of the Elin, but there's no way i'm even going to google that in work :o

Fair enough, the Castanics wear practically nothing, but the Elin are just disturbing. The fact that they wear less in the Korean version doesn't make it better either. Imagine playing it, and someone walked in and saw you running around with a semi naked 'child-like' character. Added to the sounds the characters make, and it's just creepy.

I actually played the game a bit in my breaks (Elin and castanic)at work and I had the Korean armour patch installed, somehow that makes me look bad now ^^;;; But i really don't see them as children, though i understand why people would. I'm female by the way, just on a side note!

Referring to the combat system, while it definitely is more dynamic than most other games, in the end it doesn't offer a lot of variety either as you tab the target and spam your skills. But it still is pretty good and full of potential!

Also, just read that the chart on the last page is the US version, and it's totally different here. Gameforge are running it here, and if the Aion F2P model they used is anything to go by, it'll be awful.

Actually, here's the list on the EU page. Not as good as the US one, but not too bad i guess.

If I remember right it#s pretty similar to the US model. i always played on the US servers since I loath Frogster.

Everything for the US version including all models can be checked out here: http://tera-forums.enmasse.com/forums/general-discussion/topics/Answers-to-TERA-going-free-in-February

i had the same problem - I fixed it by deleting some files from the installation folder then re-launching the patcher - I think it was "version" and "manifests" or something like that

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,715 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

Seems to be sorted, i deleted the file as mentioned here and its updating now.

Playing this now, since you can go with a free trial now and it will keep the character when Feb 5th comes

Like it lot more than i did with Guild Wars 2 anyway

Only played Tera on initial release. Any major changes? Is it worth giving another go on F2P? (I'll pay if I find it good)

I can't remember anything exactly bad about the game. Combat took a bit of getting used to if I remember right... but that's cause I'm used to every other mmo game out there with the same standard system...

Two quick questions.... End game and PVP (specifically open world pvp and not something similar to wow bgs)... How are they?

if there was its long gone id say, think we were all on a server last year thats been merged since. I just joined fraya there anyway.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,715 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

My old toons are on Fraya (EN),played some lastnight and remembered how great the combat is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,905 ✭✭✭Noxin

I can only say one thing. Avoid Fraya.

I only downloaded the game to try again today. Set to connect to Fraya to create my first character. Wait time approx 45min. That was at 5.45pm.... I left the house to take care of a few things and just got back. It'w now at 3 min for the last 15 min :D

I think I'll try out another server. Sucks going onto low pop servers though..

are you a veteran player? as in already bought the game last year? the longest ive had to wait so far was probably three minutes. I joined myself there around 6 earlier and only had a minute wait? im not sure but i think veterans get some sort of priority queue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,848 ✭✭✭Fnz

Am going to give Tera a try now that it's F2P. Any reason why the forums have so many more posts in the PvP section than PvE? Is it just that a lot of PvE talk gets handled in the 'General Discussion' section, or is there a strong case for choosing a PvP server in this game? [Link]

Nope. I had beta but never bought the game.

That being said... I created my character and played for a while. Got disconnected at one point from a problem on my own end but managed to log straight back in... Maybe the huge queue was for setting up new characters to deter you away from it?
Dunno. Will see again later today I guess :)

Forgot how awesome the combat is in this.

Posts on the EU forum are turning me off, even trying, the game (at least on EU servers).
Price for a character slot on EU? -18,65€ if you buy 'middle' (400 TT) pack. 11,95€ if you buy the biggest one (2,5k TT for 99€).
Price for a character slot on NA servers? -slightly less then 5$ (go check the difference between 18,65€ and 5$...)

Price for 2(!) strongbox keys on EU? ~5€.
Price for 100(!!) strongbox keys on NA? 10$. Yup. We pay 3/4 of their 100 keys price for... 2 keys.

Hopefully the NA servers don't have to high a ping.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,715 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

I bought the game on release, played for a month or two, back now and dont need to spend a cent and still have all my characters.

Was hoping to pick up a cheap copy of the game to get 'founder' status and benefits. [Link]

Starting with 2 characters would be fine if I found the cost of additional slots reasonable. Paying €18,65 per additional slot is a bit much.

Why is it European are always shafted on ftp versions of these games? They are almost always run by a crappy company, or are charged at a far higher rate than the American version.

It is a bit annoying alright.

Ok so yesterday when I logged into Fraya I only had about a 10 minute wait so was happy with that.

Still playing away and enjoying it. Just left the first island.

I wasn't happy when it came to crafting. Seems you need a fair amount of money just to start craft leveling. Was given a quest for each craft but each item (of which you need to craft 25) requires a specific 5 materials that from what I can see, can only be bought. These 5 materials (for weaponsmithing at least) come to around 2.5g. That's a lot of cash for a n00b like myself. :(
Maybe there is another route to it that I'll check later as I didn't hang around long after hitting the city. One thing I like to do in these games is craft my own gear as I level. I hope that is not lacking here...

Aaaaah crap! Any way to move onto the european version? Although from what I hear that may not be a great idea! :P

Well currently in a 38 minute queue for the last 40 minutes... Time remaining... 20 minutes.. doh!

Double doh.. Had to reset my connection. Back to 40 minutes...

Are you sure that you want to move to a EU server?

I was in the opposite situation to you; worried that I would be restricted to EU servers. MMO forums are often full of complaining but, even so, the EU players seem exasperated by how Gameforge run things - the price differences between EU and NA shop items are ridiculous.

Yeah Im thinking I dont :P

Im thinking a mass migration of european players to the US servers then! :P

I think if I talk anyone into downloading it then Ill just ask em to download the US version

Finally got it downloaded. 3 more of my friends did. So far - Wooooooooow!

It looks fantastic, feels fantastic, my sluty slayer looks fantastic :D. I dunno how it will go on, but it was ages since I dogged my teeth in to mmorpg like this! Might even sub!

played a bit of this over the weekend - quite enjoyable. cba with the massive queue on the primary EN server, so Im on the low pop one (arcadia I think?)

strangely enough ShadowHearth - I made a really tarty slayer also :p

A nice we red head sluty slayer! :D

I can't stop playing it! I can't believe how much I enjoy it! It was the only damn mmorpg I skipped on launch and ironically it is the only one which isfreaking awesome. I am seriously thinking of stoping sub on eve online and go this full time.

Today me and other to friends did our first dungeon. If was really cool. I really loved bosses. Makes you really think how stupid right click mmorpgs are. First dungeon had more interesting boss fights then wow raid bosses.
My friend got chest armour for his berserker ( sluty too :D ) and the outfit was pretty much full sexy bikini. I got a chest armour too, which actually covered all the bits :( . I was not impressed :D

I the serious note: 6 of us started playing it and all of us love it. All ex wow players. All tried a lot of other mmorpgs and tera is the first one, which just got us glued to screens. The combat feels just so dn good. Really satisfying.

What really is great that free players get so much! I don't even know if subbing is even worth it :). I will still throw some money their side. Damn too good game.

Apparently some people never played Lineage 2?
This looks like its clone. Rather failing clone, in fact.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,928 ✭✭✭VenomIreland

Anywhere I can still get a boxed copy of this? I see gamestop have it but it's €37, looking for something a bit cheaper if possible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,848 ✭✭✭Fnz

I haven't seen it anywhere cheap - at least online. Out of stock everywhere. Was tempted to get it for $20 on amazon.com but, now, that train has sailed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,315 ✭✭✭Big Knox

Tera is great fun for the first 30 levels then the boredom hits like a train! It has a hell of a lot of potential but the god awful quest system kills it. There is absolutely no variation and when the grind kicks in every quest is another nail in the coffin!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,026 ✭✭✭Wossack

hah yes, Im very wary of that :p dcullys turnaround from 110% enthusiasm, to utter bordom in less then a page and a half summed it up pretty well for me :D

Couldn't have said it better myself.
Granted my highest level toon is 39 so i cant comment about later levels or endgame but yes I found the questing to be boring.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,932 ✭✭✭YouSavedMyLife

Diablo 3 killed this game for me. Think i got my Warrior to level 48 then D3 launched. I agree with the quests being boring but the gameplay kept it fun enough for me to continue. Warrior gameplay atleast. Plus attempting to solo BAMs or killing them in a group was a nice challenge to break the tedium of solo questing.

Re-subbed to it recently before it went F2P and had lotsa problems with erratic ping, plus apparently there is alot of content that the US and Asia will be getting but EU will never get to see.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,715 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

So ive been playing on and off since its gone F2P and its just so boring while leveling up after lvl 30 or so.
Tried a few of my alts and just cant get into it,its so tedious while playing solo, i reckon its a lot better if your leveling up with mates.
