Too soft tbh, gotta be a honda for a track car

I'll see your Honda and raise you this ......

For sale forever . It'll come for a song. Even if you wanted to drive it, its probably just a block connector under the passenger seat that's setting off the airbag light. I was gonna buy it myself but other commitments have stopped that dead. Great chassis, bomb proof mechanicals and good enough to scare plenty of so called fast stuff. Go on, someone make him an offer and give it another chance.

Over budget but easily haggled into the zone. Gonna have to be handy with the spanners but what a cool way to smoke around in a car that will never ever depreciate .....

Nice find if its in good order. I don't like the way he mentions that it needs a service though. The few cars I looked at that were described as needing a service were in sh!t. Is that green an original colour in em?

1997 Citroen Xantia estate 1.8, NCT until 5/13 with FSH for €550

2000 Ford Focus estate 1.4, NCT until 2014 but needs a clutch for €800. Theres a guy up in Santry who can supply a reconditioned clutch for any regular car for €40. If everything else checked out you could haggle maybe €100 off the asking, and then spend €40 on the clutch - €740.

The cheapest, most affordable cruiser in the world. Running costs of a large family hatch, comfort of a German Uberwagon. Still miss my one ;)

    So not bangeromics!
You need to factor in labour too. A 13 year old focus sans-clutch is scrap.

    She's a beaut.
Twould break my balls to get rid of my ultra reliable 1.7td Astra for her though. Even though I'm proper tempted.

I called him.1250 is as low as he'll go but no service history. That's a time bomb on one of those so I left it ..... for now.

What do you mean with time bomb? I gave the link to my friend and don't want really to be blamed later if... ;)

    hi

have a read here for more info on the dreaded sludge problem.

Having said that ( and I have owned numerous saabs ) the 9-5 when fully vetted ( service history on time and ONLY fully synthetic oil has been used ) and tested is still a remarkably beautiful car to own and drive.

just get your friend to have some-one who knows saabs to check it out. The most important check is to check the car when COLD and listen at the back of the engine ( driver-side ) for a loud rattle or a tappet sound if it's there WALK away .

The rattle is from the top of the engine been starved of oil and there's metal to metal contact.

the rattle disappears when the pump has forced enough oil upwards to give some lubrication.

    hope this helps

    Thanks a million! :)

Anyone would be able to check that for my friend? He lives in Sligo, so driving 200+ kms to hear rattling (or not) is quite a problem. ;) It's roughly 200km for me as well unfortunately. :(

Clean looking unmodded (the only kind of civic I'd touch). As long as all electrics working, no rust and she drive well I'd offer €600 if I had it:( and get a couple of years out of her.

    hi joujoujou

as Saab-Ed says there is no service history with the car so I would thread very carefully ( eg head over heart ) and get it fully checked professionally before buying.

Once the engine goes you've got a lovely paper weight

Sounds ominous. Seeing as your not back in the 106...

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,694 ✭✭✭✭L-M

Just ask the seller to rev it over the phone.

They're a nice sounding engine and the rattle is very audible.

Has to be said I let a 03 face list Aero estate go at 1100 with 67k miles , one owner and a full Saab history as it had the rattle. Seems hit and miss.
