Did you use yogurt in the curry? The one I make is gorgeous but I dont use yogurt, just chicken, loads of veg, stock cube, tin of tomatoes cumin and curry powder. Dont be afraid to tweak recipes to suit yourself.

I made a beef stir fry during the week and it to was fab. Just strips of beef loads of veg, lots of soy sauce, garlic, lazy chilli and some canderel sweetner. It was easy to make and had it with noodles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,276 ✭✭✭kitten_k

Yes used it in the curry. Used the receipe on the website so used chicken, onions, lots of different spices and then at the end added the yogurt. Then had more veg going through the rice. After that I had a kiwi.

Going to try the lasagne tonight with a salad.

no, think the cheeses cake ones have syns and the cherry oe afaik

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,276 ✭✭✭kitten_k

But the normal fruit ones are?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭tatabubbly

They should be ok but watch out for the rhubarb one and also the banana and custard one, I think they have syns. I'm eating potatoes, cauliflower, peas carrots and some grilled chicken drumsticks less the fat!

Yummy! Never has a diet been so good!

I'm not following the slimming world diet to the tee but have been eating far better than ever before. Also going for a walk every day, started out at just 20 minutes now they can last for 2 hours. Since starting two weeks back I've lost over half a stone and should have my first stone lost in another week and a bit.

  • Registered Users Posts: 41 Hannah2011

Hi all - joined SW on thurs, so different from WW and I think i'm having difficulty getting my head around that. Afraid to eat anything! But I planned out a whole three course meal for Sunday and it only has 1 syn in the whole lot! Found that I haven't eaten many Syns, only 5 today but I think that will increase. There are so many things that are free - like spaghetti hoops..yummy and have also got all the stuff in for a big yummy free brekkie tomorrow.

I think the most difficult thing will be eating out, seems key is to prepare the food yourself.

Anyone know where I can buy Quark? Couldn't see it in Dunnes today.

Hey everyone hope ye are all enjoying the bank holdiay weekend.

Well I haven't posted here in weeks, but I have been checking in regularly to see all the progress you are all doing so well.

So I'm still very much on the WW wagon but I tell you getting rid of this last bit of weight is getting so so hard. I've followed the plan religiously I've done all the things I normally advise other people to do and still had nada for a number of weeks in a row!

I had 3 weeks of STS then I lost a lb then put up a lb and all for no good reason. 3 weeks ago I thought right enough is enough I can't keep at this and 5 weeks later be no better off so I've dropped down my points and thankfully so far it's working. I was down 2lbs the first week a lb last week and another lb this week :D

I'm now 10st 11lb's i'm 4lbs from my original goal weight but realistically I want to get down to 9st 9lb or 11lbs so that I have a few pounds as a buffer.

I guess the reason I'm posting is to just say to anyone that's having a tough time keep the faith, I did no matter how bloody frustrating it was, I worked the program, I changed my foods around, I increased exercise and I didn't binge or fall of the wagon in any way even though I felt like it and even though I was getting all that STS then the lb off and then a bloody lb back up. I didn't post here about it because (a) I didn't want to be a moaning mini and (b) and no offense here ladies and gents but most of the posters here have only started in the last few months so having a 5 week plateau is not really the same as a one or two week blip, alot of the oldies don't post any more and as I'm now 14 months into this journey I needed to just work through it myself. I didn't want to be dragging the oldies down with me either even though I know some of you have hit walls yourselves.

I'm 38lbs down now and so so happy about it I'm nearly about to break out of the 150lb bracket and get 40lbs gone. I've said it umpteen times and I'll say it again - this is a marathon not a sprint and it is for the long haul the weight didn't go on overnight and it won't fall off overnight either. I'm lighter now than I ever remember being before and I actually feel and look so much better than ever (sorry if that sound's conceited I don't mean it to at all!) My brain has finally caught up with my body and when I look in the mirror now I actually believe and can see i've lost those 38lbs and it feels great.

All the 1/2 lb losses really add up and even with all those STS I've had to endure over that 14 months I've still managed to get that much weight off.

Oh and if anyone is wondering how I dropped points. I earn about 15- 18pp per week through exercise mostly running and a little bit of resistance work (but i've been doing that since week 1). I eat max 30 weeklies per week and monday to Thursday eat 26pp a day rather than my 29 and that seems to have shocked my body into action. I've decreased 'treats' from my PP allowance and increased my protein and my fruit intake so hopefully it continues to work!

Maggie May I loved your post re STS = some time soon. It really made me smile and is actually very very true!

Enjoy the bank holiday weekend, and to all the mammies out there have a lovely mammies day tomorrow! Go have a little treat ye deserve it!

  • Registered Users Posts: 283 ✭✭Kay_80

Sorry slimming world ppl I accidently posted in this thread instead of the WW thread. I've been following both but posted in this one by mistake.

I've been really interested in the SW plan it seems to really promote healthy eating and some of you are getting some brilliant results! Well done. All us weightloss ppl have to stick together ;) apologies again for posting in the wrong thread.

Hey cupcake - that's fab!! I just joined last week so I'm waiting with baited breath for my first weigh in! I made a whole 'free' dinner today from the slimming world website. The chicken and mustard with sweet potato was lovely but the dessert - the chocolate mousse was fairly rank and just basically tasted like a put of philadelphia!! happy with the dinner though, would defo make it again!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,276 ✭✭✭kitten_k

I weighed myself on saturday morning and was up a pound. I was out on the Monday night but apart from that I was good. I changed weighing scales so not sure if that would have effected it as I found my old weighing scales hard to read.

Am dreading this weekend's weigh in after the bank holiday but you never know!

Made the chicken kiev's the other night, they were gorgeous! Am trying the chicken tikka tonight.

    Hi everyone,

I started last week! Weighed in early this week and I'm 3.5 pounds down even after a heavy alcohol (and thus syn) filled long weekend! Absolutely delighted, it's only my first week! Cooked a lot of food Monday to keep me going for the week and am snacking on fruit. I'm loving the whole experience and don't really crave anything at the moment! Hopefully it'll stay going!

  • Registered Users Posts: 61 ✭✭polly27

My advice ...and I think that I am going to have to take it this week too is you should really go for your weigh in! Cos then you will see you are not alone in having a bad week (I know that I did and would be happy if I stay the same). But You should put it all behind you and start afresh! Try and remember how you felt each time you were told that you were down...go for it again! It will be worth it!

Cheers Polly - yeh it is tough at times but we can't beat ourselves up when we have a bad day or week. Just gotta think of the way we wanna feel when we lose the weight.

I am kind of still in shock, after 2 nights out last weekend, I have lost 2 and a half pounds. That is really down to walking home from work everyday (usually a 50 minute walk) and being good with my food and super foods (veg and fruit) on about 4-5 out of 7 days!
I used to debate in my head each afternoon about walking or getting Luas/bus home and now I don't even second guess, it is automatically walking. So my next new mini goal is to lose 4lbs before Easter (2 weigh ins) to lose my first stone! And the scary part about it is that I think it is doable! Never before did I think that mini goals like this were doable!

Any one got some handy recipes that don't include mince meat, am getting a bit tired of them?

hi just found this thread and so excited about it all. I was a ww person up til last year. Then began the long haul of fertility treatment and got pregnant and 2 weeks ago had miscarriage. sorry for all the detail. but now i feel its time for a new me to start living again. So i'm going to join slimming world this Tuesday. Excited cos I want to loose 2 stone before I try fertility treatment again. I'll be happy now with 20lbs gone so my count down is on and i'm going to get there. Just so happy that I found this thread and I'm sure i'll be on every week with questions and advice. so please feel free to give comments and help me!!!

In Tescos it can be found up at the deli counter where the meats and cheeses are. Normally a white kinda tub with some pink.

As for me well my 6 weeks of walking(working to get SW Body Magic awards to help stay motivated) every feicin day was finally starting to pay off weight loss wise and then of course St Paddys happened. :o
The amount of alcohol and minerals, excessive amounts of milk, crisps+chocolate+ice cream and fast food was insane!

Physically feel terrible and unfit due to all that crap being in my system after being healthy for soo long. Literally was shattered!

Anyway as alot of SW folks say just draw a line under it all and forget about it. Start over!

So about to cook big batch(so can have some frozen in case I run out of stuff later in week) of my healthy chicken curry and rice. Then gonna do a simple 2 mile walk, freshen up and then do a 3 mile walk visiting some friends!

Plus I've found the best way to get extra fruit into me is to take an apple or a ready peeled orange with me on the walk so I have no other choice but to eat it :D

Back on track \o/ ....even more motivation: I may have a wedding to go to in feicin May

Hope you all are doing good :)

If you look back over these pages there are loads of examples of typical days and also explains what is involved with the different plans.

You could pop along to a nearby class to check it out before you sign up. The consultant normally gives you a run through before/after the class to give you an idea of what it's all about. You could fill out your application sheet that day or maybe take it home and have a think about it. Most folks sign up then and there! Keep an eye out in newspapers or magazines SW sometimes has that offer of €9 off registration.

thanks robo. i know its going to be all worth it, feel i could be up this week after my bad week last wk and didnt get weighed and had a bit of a bad weekend, whatever it is i will just take it and start a fresh on tuesday and get my half stone in the next two weeks, that is great that you get a good walk in everyday, i go walking every lunch hour for 15 or 20 mins , i know its not long but i feel 20 mins is better than nothing and then i go walking every evening and started kickboxing 2 weeks ago so im still on track for my goal which is at least 2 stone by the aug bank holiday and 4 stone for xmas , it wont be always easy and we will all hit roadblocks thats life but the main thing is to not give up and im going to go every week even if i have a bad one, thanks for the advice, good luck this week

So was only down a little bit today and I worked quite hard at it! Would it have something to do with the fact that its that time of the month? People say that sometimes adds a pound or two?! An I clutching at straws? I'm really disappointed!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,964 ✭✭✭ToniTuddle

That time of the month or the run up to it or even the week after it can cause an increase due to fluid retention and all that craic. Depends on the woman, everyone is different.

Also if you are starting to get more exercise in for the first 2-3 weeks(again every person different for me it was feicin 4 weeks!) you may have no weight loss or even a slight gain. More fluid retention to do with the muscles. But don't worry it starts to properly fall off then :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,276 ✭✭✭kitten_k

Weighed myself on Saturday and was dreading it due to the long weekend but was down 3.5lbs!! So that is 7.5lbs in 3 weeks!!!

Even though half a stone is gone I still don't feel the benefits, I know it because I have a good bit to lose but would just like to start noticing the results physically.

Am going away in May and my aim is to have another stone gone by then.

  • Registered Users Posts: 61 ✭✭polly27

well was up half a pound this week , i was relieved in one way as thought it would be more as had a great weekend but thats it now i,m back on track still have four pounds lost in four weeks, im going to a wedding in two weeks so going to have my half stone by then , i know its going to be all worth it so not giving up

I was the same...but I lost 2lbs last week after a weekend of indulging (Paddy's day) so I don't feel too bad. Did loads of walking all week....average an hour of speed walking a day. So I think that is having effect on my body changing with exercise etc. Yeh just gotta stay motivated and keep it up cos it is working. Best of luck everyone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,276 ✭✭✭kitten_k

I only lost 1/4 of a pund this week but it's still something. It's TOM so that probably counts too.

I have a question about the recipes on the SW website - the syns at the top to the recipes are they per serving of for the whole recipe?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,824 ✭✭✭robo

The week before where I lost nothing has paid off, I lost 3lbs this week & was delighted! Had a bad head cold and was considering not going, so so glad that I did. Now I just have 1lb to get my first stone! I have told everyone NOT to buy me an Easter Egg.

Oh and I finally found some decent low fat salad dressings in Dunnes today, Ceaser Salad & Thousand Island Dressing! Am bloody thrilled with that find, was getting sick of low fat French vinegarette dressing!

I've tried WW before and felt very hungry, deprived and sorry for myself so I never stuck with it. A modest breakfast could take up a third of your points for the day!

With SW I can honestly say I have never felt hungry, I can have full satisfying meals. I'm still surprised when I follow one of their recipes that it tastes like 'normal' food rather than WW recipes which I always considered 'not bad considering'. A lot in my class who are feeding families have said it's the first time they can cook one meal and nobody knows the difference.

I've lost 2.5 stone in 11 weeks, I do have a LOT to lose but there are others in class who have far less to lose but are still losing weight quickly. As I said I've never gone hungry and have allowed myself treats during this time. Nothing is ruled out, I find I'm cooking a lot more, eating more fresh vegetables and less processed food and have cut down on bread (but still have some). I really think it's worth a go. Good luck.

    Hello everyone,

I just wanted to come by and say hello. I joined slimming world on the 14th March and so far have had 4 WI and am down 20.5lb Aim to make it the stone and a half next week. Have to say I am really enjoying it and find I am eating far more that before. Also loving seeing little changes in my body each week.

Mainly filling up on free food, adding lots of spice to dishes to make them interesting. Porridge or weekabix is mainly my Healthy B and milk or a latte as My Healthy A. I am using between 5-7 syns most day, mainly on a latte or some olive oil as a salad dressing.

I did buy a numer of the cook books and decide each week on 5 recipes to cook for that week. I do change them around a bit to suit my tastes. Really feels that stops it from getting boring and the range of stuff you can cook is amazing without the feeling of this is diet food. I have also enjoyed the cooking and changing the recipes around. Its also much easier to stick to when when I have everything in the house. Also love the freedom of getting a take away on a Friday or Saturday night.

Are you on any medication or anything? They can sometimes mess with your weight.

From the other post I know you got weighed and were up as you suspected but are determined now to do good and that's great

    BUT

Seriously don't beat yourself up. Life does get in the way and there's nothing wrong with that. There's always going to be weddings, funerals, meeting old friends home from abroad, christenings, anniversaries all that craic! Folks shouldn't feel guilty or bad about food that's were alot of issues come up and we end up getting stuck in vicious cycles!

If you do have an event coming up then don't feel paniced about it or bad. Simple damage control is needed and you won't end up with 4lb on the scales the following week.

-Make sure you have some SW meals made up and either in the freezer or ready made that day to nibble on.

-If you exercise then get some extras walks/swims/cycling in the days/week/weeks leading up to the event

-If drinking alcohol make sure you are on diet minerals as mixers, maybe throw in the odd glass of water in between drinks if you can
