The only good thing that ever came out of Dundrum was the bowling alley.

Serious arcade that I spent all my youth and money in.
It was straight opposite this(which used to be a video store) in the "town centre"

    5258974226_2a8a0f440f.jpg

F%%k all the rest of it..Bring the bowler back and shove your House of Fraiser up your Wazoo.

Was that the one that had quasar there , when it was first released?
Seem to remember going a few times before they opened one in crumlin (the star bowling alley) and then later tallaght.

Is that bowling alley gone now? :(

I went there a lot as a kid but had no concept of where the place was as it was miles away from my house. It's the only arcade I ever saw Alien Versus Predator in.

The last time I was there was about 7 or 8 years ago. Actually it was about when I was trying to convert a female friend into a girlfriend.

My bowling skills did the trick

It's been gone for 15 or more years.. wasn't it a rollerblading ring for a while after it was a bowling alley, or the other way around?

    Chibi Robo in full effect!
Happy days, that's one of my bucket list games, along with Battalion Wars, for some reason, don't quite know why but there you go...

Chibi Robo is amazing. I really loved it. It's got a real Pixar feel to it. It's got bags of charm and its actually got quite a moving story that could bring some manly tears out of hiding.

As far as I know, and that's not very, Stillorgan Leisureplex is still going moderately strong. I think the one is Coolock is also hanging in there, by virtue of their pool tables. It's been donkey yonks since I've been within sniffing distance of either, mind. I believe there's also one in Blanch, anyone correct me on that? I'd be curious to see what condition their cabs'd be in at this stage.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,750 ✭✭✭ghostchant

Stillorgan and Blanch ones still knocking around for sure, no idea about their cabs though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭DinoRex

It's strange the Coolock one and I'm guessing the Stillorgan one too have these BYOB nights.

Where you can just bring as much booze as you want and sit there bowling.

15,000 points, I only signed up to club nintendo at xmas haha.. I had two wiis, two dsis, two 3dss and a load of games here and family members and friends all contrinbuted too once i started hounding them ala Andy Dufrain and his letters from shawshank redemption. its a pain to get 15k though because of the rule only allowing you to add two of each console and one of each game. Ive another account setup with near 6000 points on too.

I was doing a bit of a clean up and re-organise of the man cave(to make room for more 3DO stuff) and had this out so decided to post some pics.
Not new or even new to me but I don't think I've posted any proper detailed pics of this bad boy.

But my favourite bit is the fact it was made in Ireland. I don't have a lot of retro stuff that was actually made here(or even assembled,as the case may be).

Quick bash of Star Wars(flickering is only visible on camera of course):

I remember the Mac Classic! We used to use them in school. Primary school we had the rubber key spectrum and the BBC and Acorn systems. I think a lad in my class had a Dragon 32 as well, but he was in to reading Dragon magazine and spent his weekends in Games Workshop buying Warhammer and Space Marine figurines and painting them.

    Noone went round his gaf.

I think the school we had the Mac Classics at we also had the Archimedes yoke, the one with the amazing Photoshop/Deluxe Paint package. Everyone thought that system was amazing. Very arty farty.

    Ahh school days... :)

Back when I was in college, there was a Classic Mac like that sitting on a scrap heap to be thrown out. I brought it home, powered it on and the thing still worked.

Put it up in the attic and totally forgot about it. Only came across the thing recently. Hope it still works.

I think it had a monochrome screen though?

After reading a dev interview in Edge I need to pick up Arkedo's two DS titles, Big Bang Mini and Nervous Brickdown, both very very nice little titles.
Arkedo are making a few games for XBLA but, unfortunately for us, they are not available to Irish subscribers as well as the rest of the Indie catalogue, feck!

No price on this one, I had to bring it to the counter and the guy checked it.
But yeah, it was too cheap to be the right price.

Nervous Brickdown is a great little title; I bought it on a Eurogamer recommendation on release.

I dunno what happened to mine though; must've lent it to someone years ago & forgotten.

Purchased Rayman Origins for €25 in GAME in Dundrum today.
Also Resi 4 Wii for €13 used -- but I didn't realise it had no manual :(

I didn't know they had anything cool in there.

I've registered anything since they wiped out all my points I'd accumulated back in the gamecube days without telling me.

Going through a stack of games and stuff now... urgh.. you have to fill in a questionnaire each time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,576 ✭✭✭✭OwaynOTT

Yeah that questionnaire is extremely annoying.

Is there something in the stars catalog you want? After losing about 1500 stars or so simply because they went out of date, I wont be scratchin' em until I see something I want.

Last thing I got was one of those little red Pikmin plush things. Pretty cool, but I'm not sure it was worth all that scratching/filling out questionnaires!

The stars go out of date as well if not used. If it's a game they no longer want marketing info for, like something that sells bad like Fire Emblem, then the stars become obsolete. I found this out to my dismay recently :'(

My original Twilight Princess code was still valid anyway... can't get much older than that on the Wii...

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,104 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

If it's a game they still expect sales from like their most popular franchises then they are usually alright.

I wept however when I discovered that my Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland stars weren't valid :'(

Picked up a new copy of Big Bang Mini for the DS for the princely sum of €4.99 in Gamestop Clarehall!
    Nice!
Better for someone else is the pre-owned copy they have for about €3.99 as well!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,041 ✭✭✭pdbhp

Finnally picked up Mario3DLand on 3DS for the sum of €32.99, supposedly second hand in HMV but it's sealed:)
Also got my son Cars 2 & Toy Story 3 both on DS for €11 each.

For anyone looking there's a copy of Dodonpachi Resurrection for €12.99 in Game in the Square.
Also there is a UMD of Akira for €5.99 in Gamestop in the Square. Was gonna buy it but with the impending release of the Vita I may have to trade in all my PSP stuff to get one.

Eventually, everyone regrets a hasty trade-in.
