This gentleman showed up at an Air Force basic training facility to attend the graduation of his (step)father, who is two years younger than him.

Wow, the neck of some of these walts, why go to the embarassment of turning up badly dressed with a crooked tie and invite the attention of people that would know better

Muppet. What was the end result of him being ousted?

There should be a photo of an Irish soldier at the scene of a suicide bombing in Kabul here too, good luck in using the new search engine to find it.

I'l grant you that Telco, but I'm impressed with a 160m long warship and could not imagine utilising the prefix 'only' (if 'only' we had one maybe). I can understand the Russian Family who run that blog using it though.

On armoured vehicles getting stuck, I was watching Fighting on the Frontline on Channel 4 on Sunday night, the show was based around the British Warthog armoured troop carriers. They decided to cut through a river to save time coming back from a mission until 2 of them got stuck in the river.

The rest had to divert the long way around and ended up getting IED'D and lost 1 solider while a commander was blown from the vehicle with minor injuries.

Just to think if the vehicles were more capable in water it would have saved that troop a day of waiting with the stranded vehicles and and a soldiers life....

We were doing a live fire exercise for a bunch of congressmen that day. That was my young LT's tank who feared for his commision after leading the tank into that pond. Pulled him out with his wing mens tanks and spent hours trying to dry and clean it out!
Later that day I had a congressman & woman in my tank in the Gunner and Loaders position, we had a miss fire from the main gun, and had a live round in the tube. The 2 politicans started crying and praying for their lifes fearing the round was going to explode in the tube. We force fired the round down range withou incident but it was a pity it was pre youtube days, could have ended their careers there and then!

Saw the Norwegian Minesweeper HNoMS Maaloey leaving Dublin Port this lunch time Unfortunately I didn't get any pics as I didn't have my camera with me. Here's a nice gallery. LE Orla (P41) was also in Dublin Bay.

EDit: Seems to have been part of an excercise.

Not sure if this is the right thread for this, however its a photo!.

I paid a visit to Grangegormon military cemetary this morning and came across this headstone..

    6034073

    Came home and googled C.S.M. Martin Doyle, he certainly has an interesting military background;
Unsung Irish Hero of Three Wars
An Irish soldier who won the Victoria Cross, the highest British award for gallantry in battle, is unlikely to be remembered with total pride in British military annals.
    .
After returning as a hero from the Great War in France, where he also won the Military Medal, he threw in his lot with the national struggle for freedom in 1920 and spent the next few years fighting the Crown forces in Ireland. Then with the ending of the War of Independence, he signed up with the new free State Army and saw more action in the Civil War that followed the signing of the Treaty.
    .
When peace came again he continued to serve in the Irish army, ending his career in Dublin’s McKee Barracks in 1937.

Here's C.S.M Doyle receiving his VC from the King and Queen of England.
