That runs both ways sadly.

Doesn’t make sense with the way Trump is talking and behaving lately.
Wow. That's very concerning.
You know what that's a great idea. Get the Ukrainians here involved in the war effort and contribute to our tax coffers while they're at it.
We'd be too easily infiltrated by Russia and we'd see never-ending sabotage events that cause output to splutter along inconstantly..
Whether we like it or not, Ireland are playing 'Senior Hurling' now, and as we prepare for our first championship game, we'll be turning up wearing nothing but our jocks & a hangover, while the opposition are kitted out better than an O'Neills/Elverys store in Kilkenny/Mayo.. and have been competing & fine tuning at this level for years….
It's time we front up.
Some pretty sober language from Mark Rutte today. Europe needs to prepare for conflict on the scale faced by previous generations, a clear reference to WW1 and WW2. The momentum is clear, this seems to be heading in one direction.
Ireland is somewhat vulnerable, Poland? LOL / unless Putin goes nuclear he ain’t getting past Poland. If he goes nuclear all bets are off.
Yeah there not getting pass there so I think the scare mongering is all for show. Say they just want more money passed on from each NATO countries into defence. Up the spending to improve their militaries. But let's be honest RUSSIA ain't going to be going more forward then Ukraine if they can ever take it. (Hopefully NEVER).
How long can Russia afford this war? Analysis on on quora.
Three think tanks say that the Russian Sovereign Wealth Fund fell from $117bn in 2021 to $36-37bn in November 2024. Estimates it will run out in June 2026.
Also Russia cant spend all this on the war because it needs to bail out collapsing banks.
Disgraceful to see the US at the UN again voting with Russia, China, Belarus and North Korea. This time it's on a IN General Assembly vote calling for international cooperation on the Chernobyl plant. The IAEA said recently that the container around the plant is no longer capable of containing the radiation.

A reminder there are Irish people (and posters here) who support Putin while he does this daily to Ukrainians.
I suppose when they originally invaded Ukraine they were going to take their army and people and use them as fodder for the next invasion and so on, either way they must be gone past z in new plans since.
There are Russian bots posing as Irish people supporting Putin. But yes there are some extremists supporting Putin too, the ones who carry around Putin placards. But they are a tiny minority. I resent them hijacking legitimate protests on other issues. Its typical of how the Soviets infiltrated leftwing and especially anti war movements.
“A reminder there are Irish people (and posters here) who support Putin while he does this daily to Ukrainians.”
Not to mention a certain Irish president alluding to NATO being partly responsible for causing the conditions for the Ukrainian war in the first place. I still can’t understand how many people voted for this person
Heard the newly elected president stating clearly on the radio that she condemned the invasion of Ukraine by the russian federation. I don't think voting for the president was influenced much by the war in Ukraine and suggesting the new president is a putin supporter seems a bit of a stretch of the imagination to me.
A russian military unit tasked with capturing, torturing, beating and extorting money from Absent Without Leave soldiers in Russia had one of it's unit killed by one of the soldiers they were after. The unit seemingly or it could have just been this one guy broke this soldier's 80 year old mother's leg in a raid on his home and the soldier flipped and killed Konstantin Ektov. He says if the authorities kill him in prison through a heart attack that he be noted that he wishes to live and save others to live.
Pictured is the deceased member of Putin's AWOL seeking squad.
I never said she was a Putin supporter -Catherine Connolly was very clever in her wordings on the Russian Ukraine war and what caused it - and so am I. 🙂
All of my post is factual
Steven Seagull has resurfaced at a restaurant in Novosibirsk. Russian punters pay twice the seat price to sit beside Steven in restaurants. Basically they are covering Steven's cost in restaurants I'd say.
DMX on Seagull.
So the Russians who are bogged down in Ukraine, their forces nearly fully engaged and substantially degraded, with no prospect of a victory anytime soon are going to invade the Baltics, trigger Article 5, and take on all of NATO? Even if the US somehow pulled out NATO, Russia would be at war with every other member. No one in Russia is going to be so stupid to attempt such a thing.
Could be a good hit
You can try to be clever if that is what you want but I see no point in trying to tie Catherine Connolly with the war in Ukraine started by putin's terrorist state.
I don't think it's a great argument.
Let's say the Ukraine war stops tomorrow after Russia has gotten humiliated. Such was the case for the USSR in 1940. Russia will have a battle-experienced military, a war-production economy and industry, and a bit of time to rebuild and implement reforms. The 1940 miserable performance of the Red Army, as the Germans discovered, was no guarantee of miserable performance in 1941. It will not take too long for Russia to be a viable threat to Europe once the war stops, the various officials around Europe saying that they must be ready to fight Russia in about five years are not blind to the fact that right now the Russians are not doing well.
Now, let's say that the Irish government decides tomorrow that they actually will, seriously, this time, make some effort at improving Irish defenses. Given it's starting from a position of effectively no combat air force and no combat navy (and an army which is of only limited, albeit at least some, combat capability), where would the Irish defence forces be in five years from now? Probably not in a great position to deal with whatever the Russia of five years from now can send.
Now, yes, it's a given that the idea of the Northern Fleet launching a full-on amphibious invasion of Galway Bay with a goal of national occupation is complete fantasy. Even Dark Rose doesn't go that far (Which, if you're not familiar with it, is arguably the worst military fiction ever written, but does revolve around a modern foreign military occupation of Ireland). However, assuming that the full force of the British or whoever can deal with whatever smaller expeditions are sent to Ireland before they land is also a bit questionable, as I would assume they might be a bit busy dealing with whatever else may be going on in the world at the time. Russia very well could find value in the event of a major conflict in creating a distraction in Europe's Western flank at the same time as the main event happens in Lithuania or Poland.
Overall, it seems not much different to the Cold War. The Soviet fleet was never going to match up with NATO in the North Atlantic, but the Soviet cartographers did put a lot of effort into mapping Ireland, to the point that their maps in the 1980s were more modern than those the Irish Army had at the time. Maybe they were just being thorough, but I think it reasonable to presume that they had some reason to go to the effort to keep their options open.
Russia was foolish enough to invade Ukraine, which would be captured in 3 days. No rational operator would have done that without proper preparation. Putin is like Hitler in his bunker, he does not have a realistic view of the actual situation, he thinks that Russia has captured Kupiansk. Russia cannot defeat NATO but it can do all sorts of disruption and you need to plan for all sorts of eventualities.
russia will never agree to this and show them up to be uninterested in peace as usual
With these peaceniks it's always a case of "Yes, Russia is to be condemned* for the invasion, but… "
*(we have to say that, get it out of the way first before we begin the condemnation of the real culprits)
It’s how I read her words too- her supporters always quote the first part- the post “but” part, less so.
Exactly. The immediate issue is not joining NATO but taking the basic steps to defend our country. Part of that will involve working with like-minded nations, many of whom are in NATO.
Putin may turn out to be a Manchurian candidate, betraying his country by losing chunks of it to China.
he's a classic russian dictator but the results look like that alright
It’s like a horrible dream I can’t wake up from. How has America fallen so low so quickly?
Strange.
