You're also claiming 8 year olds are adults...again I find this absolutely shocking and showing no understanding of young children and their issues. If there's a particular issue with an area such as Second Level Inner City Dublin - bring it to the attention of management. No primary students, particularly our younger children should be made suffer because of people holding disturbing views such as yourself.

I know groups of teenagers in a north inner city are trying very hard to catch the virus and spread it. Do you think teachers arnt going to be faced with kids spitting at them them and each other. We are not living in some idealized society where you have kids sitting quietly behind desks pen in hand. We are dealing with a new world now where 13 yr old think its ok to brutally rape. Teachers didnt sign up for this and I hope unions are out there to help them.

Washing hands and using sanitizer and proper coughing and all that are also reasonable measures that complement each other. Not a single one is enough, but all together have a good chance of working. I have kids, one under 10, and I can tell you there is no issue to get him to put a mask on by himself.

"It didn't kill anyone to wear a mask" "My little Seány and Niamh are able to wear them no problem when going into a shop for a few minutes, therefore we need to shove them on our children's mouths for the whole day" "Get them to bring 3 masks in as we cannot let those mouths out on show, this will also be atrocious for the environment as they'll be all over yard, school grounds, streets, roads, etc." "We need ZERO to low risk to reopen schools" - which doesn't exist right now if you go into a restaurant and eat a meal...I've seen plenty of people doing that no problem. The fact of the matter is the WHO have come to an agreement that at most the death rate from Covid is 0.6%, if even. This is the risk - 99.4% of people will make a full recovery and even moreso in the age profile of students and their Educators. Any teachers at risk should be given special leave/cover/special arrangements. Time for everyone else to wise up and face the music. Some children may never recover from this prolonged closure of schools as it is. It's clear a lot of people here haven't a clue or don't care about our younger generation. It is NOT ok for our young Junior Infants who have already missed months of their preschool year to then be greeted with a masked up expressionless teacher at the door who they will not be able to understand talking behind a mask...departing from their parents who've been their Primary carers for months + told to keep this item on their face for the full day, impinging on every aspect of their school day. Children need to see facial expressions, they need to see how phonics are pronounced, what a teacher is saying, how they describe events, and many other things. Many children nowadays have severe Speech and Language issues, the services are completely over-subscribed. Education can absolutely not happen at primary level with everyone in masks. It will directly interfere with children's learning, their perceptions of school, and their social + emotional development - this is a fact. It seems perfectly ok for children to do their summer camps right now without all of this nonsense being peddled, but try and reopen schools and we get people actually referencing CHINA on this thread as an example of how to educate our children? Seriously?!!!

However, we have to live with the virus, it is here to stay and it may take a long time before we have a vaccine, if ever. I appreciate that the method of "teaching" before the summer was probably convenient for a lot of teachers, but it isn't a good long term solution. Likewise the economy has opened up again. We need to reduce risk as much as is reasonably possible while getting on with our lives. The 2m rule was just a guideline, it isn't some sort of universal constant.
