I get that we use the word ‘lockdown’ to explain the situation but the authorities were very careful not to use the word lockdown or impose a lockdown. Being able to travel 2k from your home is not a lockdown. Sure the over 70s are much more restricted but other restrictions are not very restrictive relatively speaking for most of us. The restrictions in parts of Spain, Italy, China and other places were / are much more severe. People couldn’t leave their homes for any reason in some places. When we talk about easing restrictions we need to have a bit of perspective and look at what other countries are cautiously coming out off.

If they decide it is best to extend the lockdown for another while then fine, they are the experts here, but please at least give us a rough idea of a timeline or what they are plotting in the background. If they were to say we are extending it for another month and we will see how it is after the June bank holiday weekend I think it would cause some people to lose patience with the whole thing.

Wife hasn't seen her parents in 3 months (is normally down every 4-6 weeks) but the way trips were planned and restrictions coming in, it messed up the schedule. They live in wildest Mayo so basically no risk, drive door to door and get out fo car. In saying that, would be happy to see the limits of groups relaxed. Want to have the friends over for food and some beers tbh

We are only as strong as our weakest link and need to educate EVERYBODY about social etiquette in this situation. Compulsory facemasks might be no harm as there are some idioms walking around coughing and sneezing as if nothings going on. We need every second ad on the TV and radio educating us and a few broadcast messages from famous ppl every few days outlining it. If we can do this maturely we can have some normality by June and look forward to some irish holidaying this summer.

Problem is the purpose of lockdown is not to fix the problem, it's to buy time so systems and adaptations can be put in place to allow relaxation in a safe manner. It's looking like not much progress has been made on that front in the very expensive time that we've bought so they're trying to deflect the blame onto the population with curtain twitching anecdote crap. It's like 2008 all over again when they tried to blame public servants for the economic crash.

If they say any time and can't then line that up with the future development of the disease, they'll get crucified. Playing it safe, ultra ultra hyper safe, we might get back to the old normal in a year or two. If they said that there'd be pandemonium, people would go nuts. Call it too early, people go nuts. Call it too late, people go nuts. If they say late June, we're going back to normal and then Austria and Spain and Italy all have case numbers fly off the handle again when resrictions are lifted, they'll have to change that June date and people will go nuts. They're playing it cautiously and close to the chest, frustrating as it is for us left guessing but they have to see what happens elsewhere because they really can't get their next call wrong. Providing a vision for people only opens the prospect of further annoyance and upheaval when some unseen variable makes that vision impossible, people will have gotten their hopes up only to be crushed. Again.

It'll allow them to meet a few different people, including family they've missed and yet we'll still be greatly reducing general interactions. It's a small step but I think it's one that people would appreciate.
