The last one being the most important. Be sure you can get an insurance quote the Model Y specifically is making waves in underwriter circles. Ignore that at your peril. So check that before you do anything
Thanks listermint.. I called my current insurer on this today and they're not very helpful. My renewal is mid May and when I gave them a hypothetical delivery date of April 19th she said that there would be no increase in my premium for the month until my renewal but that she couldn't tell me what my renewal cost would then be. Needless to say that was not much help.. so I explained that I'm planning to buy an EV to maybe save money in some areas but if my insurance is going to go up by crazy amount then it makes me rethink things.
Find one on Donedeal and request a quote using the reg you found online
Good advice this.
They can’t give a hypothetical quote now for a policy start date beyond 30’ish days.
Just picking a random car as a vibe is the normal route to get an idea but be mindful that you can never get a proper renewal price as when your ringing, you’re ringing one as a new customer and the company may not take you on as a. Ew customer where they would have as a renewal, if you get me.
Snap! Year today as well, smidgen more mileage at over 23k. Think I'm running about 15kWh/100km or so.
I didn't want to say this to the girl I was talking too.. as they "record all calls"... 😀
Will be a Year next week for my Rwd Y, 34k kms.
love it but at my milage I will be out of standard warranty after 2.5 years. Might pay to extend it but then again if there’s very little going wrong in general then that my bit be best spend.
kinda caught in 2 minds for the future ie happy out holding on to it for 3-4 years but conscious of that extra hit on value if it’s out of warranty.
but if I was to change I think it would be another Y down the line
Out of general warranty after 4 years anyway, so what does it matter?
Always a complex one. But also a bit perplexing. People will spend tens of thousands to get new again just for warranty for the sole reason of a few thousand impact on resale. Often hard maths is required to make that make sense.
In the same boat with similar mileage. Was half thinking of the Seal but I'm not convinced on them yet and it's too early doors. The sensible me says drive it on for years and the other half is telling me change.
Its 4yrs or 80k km's, whichever comes first. He will be out of warranty well before 4yrs.
Selling a car with warranty is, of course, going to be easier as the buyer is not risking much financially so it does matter.
Might pay to extend it
Is that a Tesla thing? Can you pay them for that? What does that cost? Or is it a 3rd party option you are thinking of?
I'd say, take a look at your options when you have ~6 months of warranty left and then make a call on it. You couldnt make any judgements right now as the market isnt functioning normally yet.
I’m not sure of the fine wording of it but it seems to be an insurance policy through Tesla?
Similar to the way bmw changed to an insurance system on their extended warranties I believe.

Didn't know about that, checked my 22 M3RWD - currently at 50K mileage after 18 months. I'll probably hang onto mine for a few years yet.
2 years / 40K = €1,516
4 years / 80K = €2,941
On a different note, has anyone received the latest software update 2024.8? Some in the UK have already received the update.
I’m looking forward to try out the adaptive matrix headlights on MY.
I know of 2x people with MY getting the update earlier this week. Myself (MY) and another 1xMY and 2xM3 have not received it. Seems to be absolutely random.
Over on the Model 3 thread there was a report yesterday from @Moreilly who has received it
We’ll stick out lad 😂
On my milage €1516 wouldn’t get me much over a year so hardly worth it unless I was selling and it helping with value.
It’s not great value is it, unless the car is known to have issues. A few more years of data needed I suppose.
Just come out to a flat tyre in MY, had only just bought a compressor yesterday so must have been an omen!
silly question but can any tyre centre repair the puncture (if it can be repaired) I don’t have have special jack pucks that I have seen people mention, do I need to check first that the garage would have them?
or do I log a roadside assistance through the Tesla app?
Any Tyre shop can do it.
Tesla don’t authorise the “special” pads.
There are metal plates to use a normal jack under there.
Perfect thanks

1 year old MY LR real world range in case useful for anyone.
413 km traveled
SOC 100% -> 3%
180km@120 , 130km@100, remainder@<80km/h
Temp 7C, roads dry & moderately wet, winds light and it was a return journey
Cabin temp 19C, seat and steering wheel set to 1 rasher for final third.
The OP said: "kinda caught in 2 minds for the future ie happy out holding on to it for 3-4 years but conscious of that extra hit on value if it’s out of warranty".
If he's holding it 4 years then it matters little what mileage it is., that was my point. No mention of changing it earlier than 4 years, which would then have a small mileaue variable of course.
What happens to new BMWs or Mercedes vehicles when their warranty is over after 2 years, do the prices tank?
If he held it for 3 years (he says 3-4) some would expect it to have warranty for that 4th year when selling it on..... his wouldnt. It would be long gone.
If he keeps it for 4yrs+ then yea, you are right, but he is concerned about the warranty being gone when he goes to sell around that time.
Sounds like the clever move is to quite rationalising a car that he loves and keep enjoying it for well past 4 years 😊
Apologises if this has been covered before but have a Y Model for delivery in March/April and added the tow bar option for an additional €1350 as part of the build. Noticed that the VRT without tow bar cost €1349 and with the tow bar €2176. An additional €827 tax on a €1350 extra. How does this calculate out, as tried web searching VRT reliefs on EVs and could not find the taper levels for between €40k and €50k. Could this be right as shown in the Tesla invoice calculation. Cancelled the tow bar from the order thankfully.
Contacted Tesla customer service and the tow bar can be added for an addition €1350 with an option to have done at your house. Does anyone know anything about this post sale install and could the extraordinary VRT bump be correct?
It's correct, the same happens if you add enhanced Autopilot, or the dearer wheels (I think).
Just get the car and then add on the extras afterwards. A Tesla ranger can call to you to fit a tow bar for about €150 on top of the price after delivery and save you the extra VRT.
