Seems a bit unfair on Down poor and all as they've been, Clare and Tipp ahead of them!

I know you posted it before, but what's the record ranking points total ever? Kerry had it in the 70s.

And when are Dublin likely to achieve it? Assuming we win our remaining games?

I think Dublin are so far ahead Bonnie that they'd near enough have to run up a double digit win based on their points differential with Donegal and Roscommon. The fact I think the Rossies will beat us is for another thread :D

Dublin should bring the Sam McGuire down with them to Roscommon, or where ever it will be.
Cos if they lose they may as well just hand it over there and then.

Sure we'll be lucky to keep it kicked out to them Tod. If we can keep the inevitable hammering to a respectable 15 points, we'll be doing well. ;)

    • Clare's big win over Longford gained them the largest rating points increase of the week (2.80)
    • The Clare-Longford result also influenced the biggest movers in the rankings – Clare jumped 3 places to 16th, while Longford slipped 5 places to 19th
    • Carlow's win over Leitrim moves them out of the 30's for the first time since 2013
    • 2013 was also the last year that Monaghan were not ranked in the top 8

I know you posted it before, but what's the record ranking points total ever? Kerry had it in the 70s.

And when are Dublin likely to achieve it? Assuming we win our remaining games?

Kerry hit 112.05 rating points in November 1978. Twelve months later (Nov 1979), Kerry had a 14.32 point lead over Dublin in 2nd place (109.79 vs 95.47).

Dublin are currently at 110.89, so they have to gain an extra 1.16 rating points to overtake Kerry's record. While this may seem small (considering some of the movements down the table), it could take Dublin a while to reach. Rating points are only exchanged if there are less than 15 rating points between the teams; home advantage counts as an extra 3 rating points for the home team.

If the Division league table remains similar to what it is currently, Dublin will play Donegal in a semi-final. They are too far ahead of Donegal to gain anything if they were to win. The only team that they could take points from (in a final played in Croke Park, considered as home territory) would be Kerry, and if they were to win there, they would gain approx 0.5 points (and maybe 0.75 if they were to win by more than 6 points).

The next opportunity Dublin would have of playing a team within 15 rating points would most likely be the All-Ireland quarter final. If they do win the All-Ireland in September, I would expect them to have overtaken Kerry's record by then.

The league round-robin is now over, only 2 semi-finals and 4 finals to go.
    • Armagh gained the most rating points (2.78) after their win against Derry, which ultimately was not enough to retain their Div 2 status
    • Both Monaghan and Longford moved up 3 places in the table following good wins over Donegal and Westmeath, respectively
    • Derry dropped 3 places to 15th, their lowest ranking since February 2013

Poor Limerick have taken an awful battering this league campaign.

27th is probably our lowest in a while.

Just realised that I didn't update this thread since the league semi-finals.

In fact, there was no change in the rankings as no rating points were exchanged in the Dublin - Donegal game and seeing as Roscommon have an approx. 4 point cushion over the next ranked team, their loss against Kerry did not affect them either.

I ran a few possible results for the final to see how it might affect the ratings.
    • If Dublin win by more than 5 points, they will achieve 112.01 rating points, 0.04 points off the record set by Kerry in 1978.
    • Should Dublin win by less than 6 points, they will be up to 111.64 rating points.
    • If Kerry were to sneak it, there would only be a gap of 3.07 between themselves (105.59) and Dublin (108.64)
    • If Kerry were to go on the rampage, they would close the gap to 0.79 rating points (Dublin 107.51; Kerry 106.72)

Can we move if we beat Cavan?

Tyrone will gain rating points if they win, that's for sure, but even if ye win big, it won't be enough to overtake Mayo. A loss on the other hand...........

Leagues done and dusted and it was good to see some surprises on the final days, even if they were in the lower divisions.
    • Clare were the big winners, gaining 2.62 rating points and climbing to 14th position, their highest since October 2000.
    • Louth and Antrim effectively switched places following the Division 4 final.
    • Tyrone edged closer to 3rd position and it is hard to argue with that based on their recent form
    • Dublin consolidate their position as the top dog and will soon break the all-time record for rating points attained.
    I have also included an end-of-league review;
    • Cavan were the major movers, climbing 11 places in a promotion-clinching run through the league
    • Clare moved up 8 places and crowned it with a divisional title
    • Roscommon, Offaly and Louth each gained 4 places
    • Derry and Westmeath were the main losers, each dropping 5 placES

3 Leinster teams in the top half of the table, 8 in the bottom half (not including Kilkenny:eek:), tells you all you need to know about Leinster football at the moment.

Teams from lower leagues outpoint teams from Div1 which is complete rubbish. This assessment should be taken with a serious pinch of salt.

Interesting way to look at it.

    Ulster
    Top Half - 7
    Bottom Half - 2

    Leinster
    Top Half - 3
    Bottom Half - 8

    Munster
    Top Half - 3
    Bottom Half - 3

    Connaught
    Top Half - 3
Bottom Half - 4 (inc NY & London)

The table pretty much sits exactly like the league tables so it's pretty accurate.

    Div 1 - 7 teams in top 8
    Div 2 - 6 teams from pos 9 to 16

I'd put a fair bit on that being a disgruntled Rossie crying about why aren't they ranked above Tyrone.

Considering Tyrone are exactly where they were when they were last in Div 1 and the AI semifinals, us winning Div 2 without losing a single game would kinda prove his point to be wrong.

I think most people would have Tyrone well in the top six at least.

Yeah, the top 6 is just about bang on but I'd probably imagine less of a gap between the 3 Ulster counties and we won't know where they stand against each other for a few weeks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,770 ✭✭✭✭keane2097

Probably a small enough gap between them and Kerry/Mayo also

I'd probably still have Kerry a bit ahead given the two finals they've been in but yeah, Mayo are close to that group of our and rightly so imo.

I love when people get on here periodically to complain about the table despite the long term obvious effectiveness of its accuracy.

Please explain "obvious effectiveness of its accuracy" that statement is laughable. Dublin/Kerry the rest don't count.Explain how lower division counties can outpoint higher division teams. That assessment is equated to Man Utd been assessed lesser to Burnley based on this chart.

Are you suggesting for example that it should be impossible for Tyrone to outrank Down simply because Down are a division above? Despite the fact Down lost 7 out of 7, while Tyrone won 6 and drew 2 out of 8.
