Often times when I lounge around cafes quitting an espresso post cycle other gentlemen become hostile at my natural pose.
I think they are jealous at my Lycra clad mass of manliness. Ladies do not seem to have such an issue but this can prove embarrassing as I am married.

Do you have any advice for the cyclists with such a dilemma - it is most disconcerting? Should I try a different pose?

    It's their problem, not yours

I'd like to know if it's deemed acceptable to wear Assos shorts with a Rapha jersey.

Grow to love it. Does it bother Jan and Klodi? Not remotely.

I suspect that you know the answer to that. A fully meaning of matching kit surely extend to the kit brand as well as colour.

Do you think I could start a trend of wearing stripey socks with skinsuits?

I insist on it. Huge fan of stripey socks. Must be cycling socks, obviously.

You do know that from next year on, you'll be docked points for sartorial trolling?

    Consider the alternatives.

If you wear Assos shorts with an Assos jersey, you'll be that person.
If you wear Rapha shorts with a Rapha jersey, you'll be that person*.

I think a mix and match of obscenely expensive lycra is the least worst option.

(* I think you might be that person already)

As long as the socks are in the correct height you 'll be fine.

Help me Klodi! I am paralysed by a seasonal sartorial conundrum.

What is the minimum acceptable length of shaved and tanned calf that must separate my tall socks from my knee warmers? With certain combinations of attire (Assos socks and Specialised knee-warmers - have I already sinned?) there is as little as a single centimetre to prove my shaven roadworthiness. Is this enough?

You're in dangerous territory having long socks at all. Even this is too long.

What kind of Pippo-forsaken situation have you gotten yourself in to?
    Just wear leg-warmers.

This thread is for people who are curious about bikes. Or the 'bi-curious' as they are sometimes called.

So winter is imminent. If I train in shorts with knee warmers and wear overshoes in fine, low angle winter sun, so common through the several parts of Europe I intend on training in, is it encouraged to have a tan line that reflects this? Is a tan that goes from top of overshoe to bottom of knee warmer, taking in a portion of the calf, acceptable?

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,267 Mod ✭✭✭✭Chips Lovell

Yes. Any tanline generated by actual cycling should be sported with pride.
