Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. So I would've been on 758. Hope I made the right choice not to do medicine. At least one more person who REALLY wants it will get in :)

If you have a sudden change of heart, you'll still have your 758 for next year anyway! :)

Can't wait to see the offers...

Can't wait to see the offers... What did the Irish Times guess?

they weren't brave enough to venture a guess.. they only talked about how applications are up for pharma and dentistry and avoided the med completely!

Anyone braver than the irish times and willing to venture a guess as to points?! I know it's pure speculation and it's won't make one bit of difference but all I can seem to do is ponder over all the possible outcomes. I go from thinking the points will rise dramatically to only rising slightly. Right now I'm thinking that each college will increase by 5 or there abouts. Basing this on the fact that the majority of students - thanks to bonus maths - will be above 550 and also the fact that if I'm right I'll get my first choice ;) I've gone over so many different scenarios of how the points will play out I'm going insane. I thought more people would have disclosed their scores - i guess a lot of those hoping for med already had their results - which I think bodes well to keep scores down  I don't know - roll on Monday

absolute minimum for random selection nuig.. i'd say around 736/737. i'm basing this off very little though besides a number that seems reasonable in my head

Will 753 be enough for Trinity? Just received my A-level results...

Hey guys, does anyone know how I go about withdrawing my application and if I'll get a refund? I'm from england and have just got my results and met my offer(i applied to ireland as a backup). Being a poor student I'll need every penny I can get! :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 24 johnnyboy18

741- I think maybe rcsi and ucd but not tcd
753 should be enough I reckon for tcd - who knows Trinitys most popular and always highest score so it's difficult but that score will definitely get you in somewhere

Just contact cao I'm sure you're not the only one that does that. Not sure about refund though. Do you mind me asking what score you had just out of curiosity?

I got 540 in the leaving. I wasn't happy with a few of my results. I'm currently sitting on a medicine score of 726 which almost defiantly won't be enough. I'm considering getting a few results appealed to see if I can get up to 545 or 550. If I was successful and had enough points after an appeal would I still be accepted into medicine this year or would I have to wait until next year does anyone know?

For any high demand course, unless something exceptional happens like someone drops out in the first week you're likely to get an offer for start in 2013.

I know how u r feeling I'm on 738 is well. I was disappointed by A2s in both English and Religion. Hopefully, i might be successful on appeal but for now I can only keep my fingers crossed that NUIG won't go up by more than 10 points. Best of luck on Monday.:)

With the HPAT scores static, I doubt we'll see a 9 point increase in points like last year for NUIG. There are two factors that will push up the points - a marginal increase in medicine applicants which'll push it up maybe 1/2 points to 730/731, and then the bonus points whose effects are very tough to tell. Worst case scenario, 735/736, best case scenario 733/734.

Ah yeah, you should be grand for a Dublin college with that I reckon*, UCD or RCSI. Maybe not TCD though.

*This entire analysis based on looking at the points, adding 1/2 for the increase in applicants, then 4/5 for the bonus points in maths. So seriously, don't get your hopes up until Monday.

Hey everyone, I've been watching this discussion for a while but this is my first time to post, so be nice. : p I have 575 in the leaving cert and a HPAT score of 190 which is in the 91% percentile, giving me a combined score of 745. I would absolutely love love love to get UCD, but unsure will I get it or not. I have 10 points to spare on the points for UCD last year (735), so I'm a bit worried it could be tight. I said I'd ask you guys what ye thought. Enough or not? : S Thanks a million. : D

I'd say you have a very good chance to be honest but hard to know what affect the bonus maths points will have. In my opinion though UCD shouldn't rise by 10 points due to HPAT scores being the same or slightly down compared to last year but I could be completely wrong come Monday so don't bank on it. Best of luck:)

Just as a matter of interest, is anyone willing to guess at the proportion of students getting offers for medicine who get it on the first attempt? By this, I mean Leaving Cert and HPAT both taken for the first time in 2012. I'm only asking because I'm curious, no other reason! :)

I'm a second Med in Trinity- there are 173 of us in total- 123 or so Irish. (including Postgrad and such)
Of that 48 got in with one Leaving Cert, one HPAT.

I'd be happy with anywhere in Dublin (tcd, ucd or rcsi). I'm hoping not to have to move out to NUIG or UCC at 745.

I'd be very skeptical of trinity being as low as 744 this year, probably more like 746 on random selection.

edit: sorry I'm not trying to be mean or anything, I just expect first round points to go up by more than 3 since last year but I could be wrong! you'll almost definitely get a place in some medicine course anyway :)

I've spent all afternoon fretting after reading these posts but at the end of the day, the points for medicine cannot keep going up by large amounts every year. If you look at HPAT and CAO stats for the past few years, around 80th percentile and 600 LC points guaranteed a place in Trinity. I'm not predicting anything and I know that the maths points have to be considered but I genuinely cannot see Trinity going above 746/747. I don't mind where I end up this year and would be delighted to accept any place whatsoever on my 740 points.

I was reading the Qualifax website this evening and this sort of (but not really) put things into perspective:

' Given that there are between 480-490 places on offer from the five medical schools this year, an applicant would have to score above the 80th percentile to be in the top 500 scores on the HPAT assessment. The overall range of scores achieved inn the assessment ranged from as low as 71 to the highest scores of around 230 out of a maximum possible score of 300 marks.'

Remember that not everyone that gets high points in the LC gets a high HPAT and vice versa. I wish all of you the best on Monday and if it doesn't work out for us there's always next year, the UK and post-grad. Fingers crossed we don't get another mammoth point jump on Monday but until then let's stay positive :)

If you mean a refund of your fee for applying through CAO, then no. It's an administration fee for processing your application, it's not refundable.

    Hey guys,

Now I've got 752 in hand and my first choice is RCSI. I am so worried if I fail to get a place. Would my results in college from last year affect my CAO application? I'm asking because I did really badly in the pharmacy course of RCSI.. Also, I wonder if not doing Irish be a concern since it is in the requirement. But I came to Ireland in 2009, so do I get an exception?

Thanks in advance and good luck to everyone here!
    Cheers!:D

    **PS:_____535 (in 2011 LC) + 25 (bonus) = 560->552(after adjustment)
    __________552 + 200 (in 2012HPAT) = 752
__________Hope I didn't get this wrong.. I'm so nervous right now!!:'(

Be sure that maths was originally included in your points. Not everyone counts the full 25 points. Check this link if you're not sure :)

What are the odd of the points for medicine going down ? The highest Hpat score from last year was down although there was supposedly an increase in people applying....

Also does anyone know is it possible to repeat your Hpat without repeating your leaving and vice versa.

    Thanks in advance

I haven't seen any predictions thinking that points will go down, not to say that its 100% impossible, but very unlikely with the extra applicants and 25 extra points for HL maths...

You can repeat the LC and HPAT independently from one another
