Not exactly my watch, but a family member has asked me to check if this is a genuine Patek, it was given as a gift without papers.

Anyone able to tell from these, or should i go to a shop to find out?

I'd say take it to a proper dealer. They will know immediately. For such a potentially valuable piece, don't mess about.

    Model number is Seiko SZSC004

There is one currently on watchuseek for $550 but I have seen them a little lower but that is when there was more on sale. If you decide to make an offer and need someone to forward it on let me know.

Hadn’t worn this in a while and it reminded me how I actually like the smaller watches. Feels so light and neat on my wrist.

Emo and deep thought deep in negotiations to order half of watchuseek sales corner.

Edit...how many watches would fit in 40 foot container?

Heres a link to a real one, its a little different inside :) and thats the cheapest one I could find, I seen others go for north of 500k...

I've been over to the Patek Philippe museum in Geneva and the watches are truly art work the intricacy is incredible and attention to detail sublime.

It's a nice 'honest' watch- my only complaint being that the case scratches a little too easily if you catch it on something as evidenced in the photo. My only Citizen in the collection which is something I feel I need to rectify so I've been having a snoop on Amazon US and spotted some nice looking models. In a month or two I'll have a look around and see where I can get one at a decent price.

I've been wearing this the last few days while doing some work around the house. It's quite liberating, not worrying about bashing it off something. I normally hate rubber straps, but this one is really comfortable.

Birthday present to myself. Until a couple of months ago I didn't know these existed, a Citizen 'homage' at the Omega Speedmaster. I think it looks nearly better than the original. Of course I had to have one.

As you can see its second hand, they're not being made anymore. And while condition is really good I find the glass has quite a bit of reflection. Is that normal or a sign that someone has been polishing it or something? Would a replacement help? Would anyone know?

PS: The white piece of tiny thread is just that. I overlooked it and too lazy to do a new pic.
AlsoI'm not a collector, there'll be a really nice Seiko and a practically unworn and gorgeous Orient for sale here soon.

I believe this watch has a lightly domed mineral crystal.

Generally mineral crystal is not highly reflective. The light dome might be contributing to what you are perceiving as it picks up reflections from a wider angle. A black face also exacerbates the appearance of reflections.

Overall though I wouldn't have expected anything much out of the ordinary. Certainly uncoated sapphire on a black face (eg some of the cheaper Hamilton khakis) can be really terrible from a reflectivity pov. Mineral crystal is usually not too bad.

I was digging through old boxes for stuff to sell on Adverts, when I found my old Promaster.
I purchased this back in 1998. I cant remember what I paid for it. Under 400. Cant find it online from a quick search.
It needs a bit of love. Would it be worth leaving it in for a service, cleaning & a new battery ?

I'd just try a new battery; not sure a service will do much if the battery works, or is worth it if the battery doesn't work.

It does have slightly domed crystal yes and there are certainly no scratches on the glass/crystal. Just wasn’t sure as it reflects considerably more than a black Seiko I have but then that one has a flat crystal. It’s grand no complaints was just wondering. Thank you.

It does look highly reflective in this video so I would say it is normal for your watch. Just the nature of the dome and perhaps the surface finish on the crystal etc.

If it bothers you, you could certainly change it for a flat crystal and/or one with AR coating. It's not a big job for a watch maker...sourcing the correct size replacement is the main hurdle.

I found out in the meantime that this watch simply does not have anti reflective coating and this is normal. Just have to get used to it. Its not bad at all anyway, simply stuck out in contrast to me every day Seiko.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I will simply wear it and if I ever scratch it I might have a sapphire put in.

Bloody lovely Patty 893!! Well may you wear Sir. That's a real beaut. :)

And...... from the sublime to the ridiculous... :D

Christmas prezzie to myself. My very first watch was given to me by my Ma and Da on holidays in France back in the 70's. It was this.
    469931.jpg
A "boy's size" Mortima "Superdatomatic", made in France by the Mortima watch company. They specialised in cheap and cheerful pin pallet watches that they sold in the millions all over the world, including the developing world. They were kinda like the "cheap Casio" of their day(and the cheap Casio's caused their doom). They were 15 jewel movements though they usually added two jewels that did nothing so they could call them 17 jewel, sometimes added even more to claim 21 jewels. Hell they called them Superdatomatic when they were hand wound. :D They came in all sorts of wacky "fashion" flavours, including watches with thermometers and altimeters(that didn't really work), cased in chrome plated brass. Divers were a big seller and they came with a diver dude on the caseback. The only bit that was steel.

Anyway I bloody loved that watch. Loved all the writing on the dial. Still have it, but it broke years ago. I've always hankered after a "man's size" example, but the movements were pretty crappy and people were looking silly money for them(to me anyway). The quartz crisis hit them very hard, so they went and designed an in house quartz movement to try to keep up. And they were a real "in house" company. They designed and built every single part of their watches. The movement they came up was released in the early 80's though it looked like a quartz movement from a decade earlier though was by far the best quality movement they ever produced(you can regulate the quartz crystal for accuracy for a start). So I kept an eye out and just before Christmas I got this in auction for 30 quid. Woo!

    469932.jpg
    Excuse the paw prints... :s
Near NOS condition. Clearly they were upping their game as shock of shocks it has a screw down crown. I've never seen this particular style before. Much better built than others I've seen. The bezel clicks solidly unlike other which are friction.

    Movement pic.

    469933.jpg

Diver dude on the back from my childhood. :) Much better sealing too with a glass crystal and a proper screw back so should be closer to "100% Etanche"(waterproof. For some reason they got away with keeping the "proof" bit going). It's got fantastic lume too.

30 quid for a literal time machine into my childhood of that summer holiday where I must have checked the time ten times per hour. Not too bad. :)

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

At least get the battery out - fingers crossed it hasn't leaked.
