Pizza is a very decent man working in difficult circumstances. He deserves the space and time to turn things round at the Brandywell.

He's a decent man, yes would totally agree.
And yes he is working in difficult circumstances.

But if given time I honestly believe we could be playing 1st Div football.

Even if it comes to that, Hutton is just the man to sort it out.

Cup replay in Finn Park on Monday night at 8 as Harps fought to a 1-1 draw in Longford last night. Very impressive after playing with 10 men for 70 minutes.

How's the new stadium coming on? What season will it be ready for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,223 ✭✭✭overshoot

Back to action away to Shels on Friday, the break was much needed after the end of the unbeaten run. Still top though!

Never been any official word on Keating & Donelan although it looks like both are heading back to Sligo... hopefully now Heary is gone it will change but doubt it.
Oisin McMenamin & Kieran McDaid are coming in to bolster the attaching options & hopefully with a proper run up top Tagbo can net a few. Could do with a few more in also to cover injuries.

Annual Draw on now too, Prize of return flights for 2 to Dubai with a 4 night stay in the 5* Bonnington and €500 spending money. Details & tickets (€5 for one, €20 for 5) here.

Also for any coaches out there, Ireland u17 head coach Tom Mohan will have a coaching clinic on June 28 in St. Columba's college, Stranorlar. Details

The Three goals last week v Waterford, all worth a watch
    Nathan Boyle's First
    Ray Foy
    Nathan Boyle again

Home to Cobh tomorrow... UCD have had their game v Youths postponed so chance to go back top and open a gap to third. (first home game missed all season :( )
Our game next week v ucd also postponed which works well for us as a players wedding is that weekend! Means they will also have a lot of matches to play in the run in as they have to make up at least 3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,305 ✭✭✭✭muffler

Nice goal by Foy. Probably the pick of the three.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,223 ✭✭✭overshoot

Thought McHugh's passes for Foys and Boyles second were both sublime

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,101 ✭✭✭AidySevenfold

Could do with a few those tomorrow night down in Wexford.

Last quarter of the season now the the other top four teams all have to come to Finn Park starting with Shelbourne on Friday night. We've wobbled a bit recently but for the first time in too long we're competing at the sharp end of the table going into the final part of the year. Great to see and hopefully people come out and give this very hard working team and manager the support they deserve.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,223 ✭✭✭overshoot

Win on Friday and we are 6pts clear (and a better goal diff of 10 or more) of 4th placed Shels with 6 games left. While we have stuttered, a win will make it very difficult for them to catch us and go a long way to at least securing a playoff. Lose and we are definitely in a real scrap with them for 3rd.

After that, hopefully we can look at competing with Wexford & UCD for top. Given both of them will also visit its a great position for the final run in of games. 7 games left, 4 at home, really need the 12th man now!

Good to see the harps back on winning ways again with tonight's 1 - 0 win over Shels

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,223 ✭✭✭overshoot

6pts and 10goals clear of 4th with 6 to go. See it through now to the playoffs. Our 2 promotion rivals at home in the last 3 games gives us a good shot at the title if we get through the next few. Waterford at home in 2 weeks.

Good game, especially after the goal. Really opened up. Should have had more tonight. Harkin just had it on his wrong foot early on in a 1on 1, Boyle should have squared to tagbo for a tap in when he was through too. If only we had a young McHugh we would walk this division. Think that's 14 clean sheets in 22 games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,223 ✭✭✭overshoot

Waterford are our third last home game Saturday @ 8 ( due to the international). Roddys first visit since he said suggested clubs like harps should be put of the league. Waterford put up one of the best performances of the year in Finn Park, harps edging it 3-2 with a last minute winner. Since Roddy took over their fortunes have got worse, we bet them 3-0 in the last round although they gave Wexford a scare last week.

Win and we are guaranteed to have something to play for on the last day of the season even with a worst case scenario of 3 defeats for us and 3 wins for shels. Rob Waters may be available to make his home debut.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,223 ✭✭✭overshoot

The league season is almost up, 3 games left, 2 at home. We can ensure ourselves of at least second tonight by beating UCD (and a home second leg in the playoff).
4th placed Shels playing Wexford in a bit to keep their promotion hopes alive we might still get to dream of top spot. With 3 games to go, we are 9pts and about a dozen goals ahead of Shels so im choosing to look up!

UCD earlier in the year was the biggest crowd of the season with over 1100 and an entertaining 2-2 game. Be nice to get the crowd back for the final promotion push.

oh one of the lads made a goal of the season video. Few crackers in it. Nice team move at the start v waterford but Funstons v waterford (nutmeg and 30yard+ strike) was just a cracker. All votes welcome!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,101 ✭✭✭AidySevenfold

Funstys has to win it realistically although we did score some crackers this year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,223 ✭✭✭overshoot

job done (unfortunately also for wexford), we will be home in the second leg of both play offs all going to plan... and now we play the waiting game

Playoffs next up. 2 buses running to UCD on Friday Contact/Departure details here. €15 return. They will run one via donegal town/ballyshannon with demand. Wet & Dry buses :D

Good 4-1 win at the weekend, 17 year old BJ banda making his home debut & scored 2. Was an enjoyable game from a harps perspective! Goals on Donegal Sports Hub. Poorest crowd of the year... but im sure we can thank the FAI for that putting it up against france-NZ.

  • Registered Users Posts: 70 ✭✭nigeldinho

Jaysis I forgot this thread even existed.

I think there's a third bus running from Ballybofey too with the FBTN lads, about 20-25 on that.

Not going to be running via Donegal/Ballyshannon now as there's not the demand for that. Might be worth a few folks from that area doing a carpool up as far as Ballybofey though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 70 ✭✭nigeldinho

Just 11 seats left on second bus to UCD game.

Ah now, was 6 & 4 the added times so we made the 100! And felt like more again!
I missed the goal after getting lost in belfield :/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,223 ✭✭✭overshoot

only 2 days to the second leg, great chance to finish the job although I'd imagine Benson will start after getting half the game the last day.
Match kick off is 7.45 not our usual 8!

For anyone (like me :/ ) who missed it, Ciaran Coll's goal
    And Ciaran Gallagher's 1 on 1 save

Make it through, away to Drogs/Limerick on the Monday home Friday week.

    and playoff vid

1-0 Limerick on the night (Limerick fan here) but very much all to play for.

Harps did a good job of stifling us in attack and apart from a super strike for the goal, we didn't create many chances. Harps didn't create much either as they defended quite deep, but BJ Banda did get in behind the defence and round the goalkeeper, but was forced wide in doing so, and couldn't get the shot on target.

Harps will have to be a bit more attacking on Friday, which, with our weak defence, doesn't thrill me, but there will hopefully be more space for Limerick to exploit than last night.

Fair play to the Harps fans who made the journey. It's a long way to travel (although I know not everybody travelled from Donegal) and they made plenty of noise on the night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,223 ✭✭✭overshoot

fairly spot on, limerick definitely the better team but failed to create many clear cut chances (although i missed the first 20 or so minutes where we were meant to have been under severe pressure).
Banda definitely had the best chance of the game, bit more composure and maybe, but the lad is just 17 and still raw. Limerick definite liabilities at the back, Hall seems to have very bad positioning if McHugh/McNamee/Funsty get their heads up it could be punished from distance. We are not out of it!

If Rodgers wasnt the ref, id be wondering how Kelly stayed on the field after his lunge. That call could have had a massive impact over the two legs, thought he may have been your best player on the night. It was a stonewall penalty too. Dont think Funsty was going to get to the ball before the keeper after prodding the ball on, but your man was still stupid/lucky hacking him down.

Was definitely a long journey after 2 blowouts (that would be another issue), not impressed however with your stewards (who knew the bus had issues and were running late). Messing around on the gate and handing filling most of the away section with home fans. We were badly wedged into the small corner of what was left.

Id imagine the pitch will be as tight as it was for the UCD game too btw ;)

We did have the most pressure then but still didn't actually create much at all.

    Far from out of it.

Hall is actually a very good shot-stopper though, great reflexes.

From where I was standing, I thought there was a bit of space between Kelly and the Harps player. I don't think he made any contact and I actually thought it was more of an interception than a tackle. It was difficult to gauge distance though as I was looking 'across' it if you know what I mean.

I honestly have no memory of this penalty incident. Some Limerick fans said they worried one might be given though, and Limerick Radio apparently said it could have been one, but I cannot recall when it was. It didn't make the highlights either, unfortunately.

Seems like the stewards had no idea about how to deal with such a large crowd at all. The whole stand is not designated as away support - there is usually a netting covering 2/3/4 rows of seats to separate home and away fans. Was that netting there at all, or were Limerick fans actually in amongst the Harps fans?

Ah now. Harps are far too gentlemanly for any of that.

I wouldn't mean his positioning when the ball is in the area, I mean c30/40 yards. I think It was a real factor in Banda's chance. McHugh would have slotted it...:( although thats all ifs and buts, he wouldnt have had the pace left to put himself in the position!

In the highlights here, your right he didnt make contact, McNamee got out of it. But it was both feet of the ground and a proper lunge. Contact or not it was dangerous play. You can see the dent he leaves in the pitch, if tony had put is foot on the ball...

That was my view anyway from the east stand. Funsty just knocked the ball on our of both their reach and your man followed through and upended him. Its the kind of situation if love to see a definite card for one side, because if it wasnt a foul, the only other explanation was a dive.
You would think RTE would have had it but i doubt you would have seen much from the midfield camera. 90 seconds is pretty crap but hardly unsurprising... Suppose I should be glad we are on tv at all!
The netting was there, one side limerick, the other, first few rows were limerick, mixed a few then all us.

Anyway do it all again Friday... hopefully Boyle can get another hour out of his hamstrings! His season was meant to be over!

tbh im not massively fussed on segregation (ok some teams definitely but its not like harps/limerick have reputations). Just pissed that they would sell the away section tickets/tell the delayed bus initially that there was no tickets, messing us around on the gate. pathetic really when they knew about it 2 hours before kick off.

haha not even on aggregate! always (****ing always) lose on penalties! We havnt lost a playoff game at home yet either!!

Also with all the excitement.... bear in mind it could be out last chance to see Kevin McHugh, over 400 appearances and 185 goals for us and the 5th highest goalscorer in the history of the league. Hopefully a few more goals in him tonight. His playoff goals seem apt
