Sorry lads - just for once.

Being over par is so boring. :P

    68 (3 under)
    6 Birdies
    3 Bogies
    9 Pars

    27 putts
    13 GIR

I will never see the likes again. ;)

missed 2 bad putts - one for bird. But made millions - so won't complain.

31 points through 14 today, turned in 13 with a scratch thrown in with a lost ball off a pulled drive right on index 1.
Developed into a race against a greenkeeper on a job on knock on the back 7. +2 playing speed golf thru 7 for 18 points. Loved the tempo, no time to think, see the shot, hit it.

79 thursday, 22/22 for 44. With 3 birdies 6 pars and 8 bogies and a fecking treble. 3 three putts for bogey too. hopefully take the form into competitive golf.

1 bird, 8 pars, 8 bogeys and a double for 41 points and another boardsie society win. Great weather and took advantage of local knowledge on home course, clean and place everywhere still and required as constant muck balls, birdie on par 3 so took a share of the 2's, double on 18 after an aggressive drive OOB. All in all a goods days golfing.

    29 points
    4 Scratches
Drove Quite well - number of pars on Front Nine - fell apart on back nine.

    30 points 2 scratches on front 9
Missed a 3 footer for birdie on the first and that set the tone for the day, got nothing going all day, partly due to the group in front that had my group waiting on every shot, it all got the better of me on the 6th hole when one of the guys from the group in front drove his ball onto our green and I rushed my chip as there was two groups on tee behind and I wanted to hit my shot before the other guy, so I thinned it through the green and out of bounds.
Happy how I scored from there after what happened before I could have just caved in

40 points around cheesetown today. No scratches which I'm chuffed with as had to st up and down twice from wet balls to score. 10 pars 5 dbs and 3 bogeys.
Didn't hit one decent iron shot today, short game was on fire. 29 putts, 8 1 putts.

Gutted not to make the boards outing but played Potumna with another society yesterday morning. 37 points with 2 scratches. 1 point from the last 2 holes probably means I'll miss out on first place. Potumna is a great course, will go back again.

35 pts in Naas yesterday, a decent return looking at the stats.

    6 pars
    3 birdies
    5 bogey's
    3 doubles
    1 treble

    FIR 15%
    GIR 40%
    Putts 31

35 points in carne yesterday. 2 scratches but couldn't care less as I just love the place so much. Also played achill this morning and it has to be the most surreal setting of a golf course. Totally flat and not a tree, Bush or any rough. Very difficult to judge distances as no point of reference to be seen.
Played only 7 for 10 points.

84 in Coollattin for a net 71, not a bad day. 1 triple bogey, 3 double bogeys, 3 bogeys, 9 pars and a birdie 2 (yay, money).

Hit 50% of fairways, 61% of greens, and had 35 putts. The greens had been sanded but really it wasn't an excuse, happy with my putts inside 10 feet.

All in all a fair result, I have to work on keeping a good round going (was 2 over after 8) and not getting ahead of myself.

Singles matchplay qualifier in Palmerstown Stud yesterday

    41 pts off 19

    2 birdies
    5 pars
    8 bogies
    1 double
    1 treble
    1 scratch

Came 6th out of 209 with top 64 to qualify 😀

26 points off 12. First competitive round since October, second game.

5 scratches and 5 balls in the water. A bit like Poulter at the Honda. Lots to take out of it, namely, dont hit it in the water.

82 strokes for 38 points off 13. A day of what might have been.
    10 pars
    1 bird
    3 bogies
    3 doubles
    1 Triple
    30 putts

Got on the 17th tee with a good chance of finally breaking 80, needed to finish with 2 pars. Put my tee shot OB and took a 7, parred the last. Lots of the positives: the biggest being that on another day it could have been 77.

It will be no problem to you based on those stats. Obviously knew that the sub-80 round was on, first mistake! Learn to switch those thoughts off (not easy). It's taken me a while but when I'm playing well I make a point of recording the score on the card but not to dwell on it or start calculating points, just focus on the next shot. When you do it, it will be the day you tot them up after you are finished and realise what you have done.

10 pars and 1 bird in a round is serious shooting off 13, I should know as that's my handicap too!

25pts off 14, my first time playing at Slieve Russell last Sunday. Gorgeous but difficult course not made any easier with pole forked greens and heavily sanded fairways. Still enjoyed it though and will be back for more but maybe under summer conditions.

Horrendous round in Killeen which included almost hitting myself after hitting the sand box by the ladies tee on the 6th. Seem to have forgotten how to swing a golf club all of a sudden. Not happy

Social evening of golf this evening with Shaunac93. Played 12 holes after work, first time in 2015 (woohoo!). Played Mahon, not a bad spot at all, some lovely holes. After a dodgy start, the straight out of the car onto the 1st tee syndrome, settled down nicely. For the second round in a row played the final 6 holes in -1. That's a standard I could get used to :)

    Weather permitting, out again tomorrow!

Thanks again for the round yesterday evening barnaboy. 12 holes in an hour and a half as a 3 ball is the kinda golf a love although the last two holes I felt a little like Ian poulter at the players championship

Mahon is a lovely course albeit a quiet hilly but that makes for some fabulous holes esp the par 3 4th, 100m to green but off an elevated tee of approx the same height, looking out on the river Lee behind. Class Thanks again for the round yesterday evening barnaboy. 12 holes in an hour and a half as a 3 ball is the kinda golf a love :) although the last two holes I felt a little like Ian poulter at the players championship :)

Personally I started off ok in that I missed par putt on the first after nice chip on, good drive on the second and decent second shot then the chipping shanks started again. Thought I got rid of them yesterday morning but obviously not. Struggled on although hardly hit a green again until the 10 hole which was quiet frustrating but then last 3 holes I played ok considering think I was +2 for the 3.

Happy off the tee and most of my irons just need to built up some confidence with the wedges. Out again this morning in Birr if this frost clears hopefully wedges don't fail me again.

Saw a slight improvement in my game today but still a long way to go if I wanna make it to single figures.

    Par: 4

Looking at the positives after a week of shanking every chip I hit 8 lovely chips today and only 1 bad one but that's because I let the bunker get in my head. Sanded and hollow cored green made putting very hard even 4 footers. Although the 30 points don't show it I did hit some lovely shots just need to get it all to come together a bit more...will be ready by the time tullamore comes around :)

34 with 4 scratches but happy enough in tough windy conditions off 16. Biggest worry will be that i will be out of prizes due to not entering comp due to not having enough cash on swipe card to enter comp and not being able to put anything on it with an early start......ah well.

Was out too late, last night. Clocks going forward didn't help.

33 points in tough conditions - wind got me on 3 holes - normally manage these situations better - was an easy cut out there today.

CSS will be low - so should be in buffer.

Glad I went out - many , many golfers, didn't turn up.

A decent 36 points in Mahony's Point yesterday with a society, came 6th. Windy conditions but enjoyable.

31 points today in scotch foursomes on home course, wind was brutal and we never got going really. One of the guys in the foursome opposite us really got under my skin too. Frustrating day. Onwards and upwards!

Play society outing in Lough Erne today, great course and a class mixture of holes.
Only 24pts but felt I was hitting it well, lost a huge amount of shots around the green and was desperate in the bunkers.

84 gross in Mullingar today with an 8 on one hole (plugged ball) not found. Played much better than score suggests, course very very wet. Happy with how I played.

75 gross in Lucan, 35 pts.

Unbelievably, good enough to win today's competition, thrilled to notch up an early 'W'!

Obviously difficult conditions, v windy and squally showers the order of the day. Hit it solid the front 9 but putting like a blind, lobotomised baboon saw me out in a +3 38. Finally made something of relevance on 10, a 12 footer for par on what was a tough par 4 back into the wind, and followed that with a very fortuitous save on 12 after playing the hole poorly from the get-go.

Wind continued to strengthen but managed a good par on 13 after missing the fairway, before bogeying 14 and parring 15. Hit a slightly thin 6 iron to 6 ft on the par 3 16th and nailed it for a 2, which got me back to 3 over, which I knew was decent. So pressure was on for the last two holes and, sure enough, I made a mess of 17. Pulled my drive and missed the green in 3, before 3 putting for a demoralising double bogey 7.

Ripped a drive up 18 (without giving the shot a great deal of thought/ care, it must be said) and hit a really good second shot, a 6 iron over a bridge/hazard and within 70 yards of the green. The flag wasnt the most accessible, set at the front of the green just over a ridge, and with the wind howling behind me, a fair amount of luck was required to get it close. But I played the shot well and it worked out, trickling down to 18 inches. Didnt fancy the putt one bit but managed to coax it home, a satisfying finish after the disaster at 17.

Was hoping to scrape something but to win was a pleasant surprise. Will hopefully press on when CSS
    makes a return!

Played Tullamore in that wind / rain / sunshine / hailstones with shaunac93 yesterday, what a day for golf!! Was great craic all the same!! Even standing on some of the tee boxes without getting blown over was a challenge at times!

Started off with the classical straight out the car, first tee and swing!! Left off the tee and thinned my approach to go miles over the green!! Same with tee shot on the par 3 second, I'd say i hit it 50 yards and then put the second off the back of the green......again!! Calmed down a bit after that but way too many bogies and a couple of doubles after the first 2 scratches ensured the score was only ever going to be ok!
Still, after having the 4 seasons and that wind i was happy enough with my score but more importantly really enjoyed the round - everyone needs to play a non competitive round and have the craic every now and then!!

I took on the 2 par 4's over water, wet on one but made bogie and just about made the other but Lamar High Meatloaf after hitting sand with my second, my first bunker shot in about 5 rounds!! I also was on the fringe of the 16th with my second - first time ever to do this.
Like in Naas, I scored well on indexes 1 - 4 so there is a bit of a game in there just to get it out.

    Ended up with:
    3 Pars
    11 Bogies
    2 Doubles
    2 Scratches

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,512 ✭✭✭OffalyMedic

Played 45 holes since 11 o clock y-day morning..mixed results tbh started off both days well with a few pars, couple birdies and bogies.

Crashed and burned after about 7 holes in tullamore with charlieIRL yesterday but had the craic, which is much needed every now and again.

Finished up with 34 points this morning at home, 21 on front and only 13 on back :( Should really start pacing myself but it's just to much of an additive game :)

Out again in morning with AlxMorgan in cork and looking forward to it. Hopefully I'll see a bit of sun, have had enough wind and rail and hail golf to do me for a good while :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,512 ✭✭✭OffalyMedic

Had a very mixed round of golf with Alxmorgan this morning in cobh.

Started off with a triple bogie on the first and though "Oh no here we go again, its going to be one long morning". However to my delight i went on and parred the next two hole, obviously i got ahead of myself and before I could even contemplate a decent round the golfing gods too action and I had another triple on the 4th :(. The rest of the front 9 was up and down, hit some nice shots only to ruin a good score with a duff or other silly shot.

Then came their signature par 3 10th hole. A 122yard shot onto an island green and to make matters worse there was 5 green keepers working on the green as we stood up on tee box.

    10thgreenfromredmarker.jpg

Unfortunatly Alan found the drink and it was my turn. Considering I had hardly got 5 iron shot airbourne all morning i didnt know what to hit so decided to stick to my guns and pulled out my 8iron. Two thought ran through my head "There is no water!,Keep your head down" So the kind greenkeepers kindly stood back and let me hit, here goes nothing a thought. Swung at the ball anyway at to my delight it took off up into the blue skies of cobh and i watch it closely as it started to decent to the little green below and amazingly stuck to the green 6ft from the hole :) A got a little cheer and a clap from the greenkeepers and all :) (These professionals are living the life getting praised for every shot they hit, talk about a confidence boost). So i strolled on down over the bridge and to my ball and sank the birdie putt. Happy Days.

Should have packed up and went home after the 10 because once again golfing gods didnt let me get too cocky and the rest of the back nine continued much like the front so good shots followed by some very bad ones!! I did manage one more birdie on the par 3 15th. At the end of the day i finished 12 over nett which it pretty chronic no matter what way you look at it. But i could pick out some positives.

Played 10 of the 18 holes to my handicap or better so if i could just sut out some of the doubles and triples i'd be doing ok. Still a good bit of work to be done on the swing change but it has only been less than a week :p Short game has improved alot still a bit to go also. Have gone from sometimes near 40 putts a round down to 32 with only 2 three putts one of the things I am most happy about (Go cross handed if your struggling with putting you wont regret it :). Was a lovely morning for golf and the views in Cobh and the course itself were fantastic, seriously contemplating student/distance membership after today.

    So Overall

Birdies: 2 FIR 38% (less than normal but was poor off tee, topping alot of balls)
Pars: 2 GIR 22% (Always poor and needs to improve)
Bogies: 7 Putts 32 (1.8 per hole, which is improving)
Doubles:3 Scrambling 7% also getting better
    Worse:4

Game golf is going to help me too :) Day one was a success and I remembered to tag it most of the time and was very easy fix up when I got home as I used golfshot to keep sats (swear i'm not a slow golfer even with using all these gadgets). Have 4 night duties in a row now so no golf for me til next monday :( Until then, thanks boards for letting me vent :p

29 points from 14 holes this morning in kk playing off 18 handicap. Skipped from 8 to 13th as was a few groups ahead of me
    5 pars
    7 bogeys
    2 triples

Driving was very good and straight all day. Long irons were poor and left a few tap in bogeys that thebpar putt just wouldn't drop. One of the triples was horrible as was on the fringe after two and thinned the wedge a ross the green.

Swing changes starting to show some improvements so happy with the morning.

had 36 points for the 18 holes on Sunday in tough conditions around Athlone. Got off to a middling start. I was +3 for the front 9 thanks to a birdie on the 9th hole. But then the 10th hole happened; having found the edge of the green on the tee-shot, I had to call a foul on myself as the ball rolled back as I was addressing my shot and hit the club. That distracted me and I walked off the hole with a 5.

Bogeyed the 11th too, still put off by what had happened and then proceeded to go -1 for the last 7 holes with a birdie on the 12th and 6 consecutive pars. Really proud of myself the way I held it together, but I did so by making a lot of really good up and downs. These new wedges are going to be something really special, I can feel it!

Loving the reports here these days - writing quality is improving around here :D

"Benice" - please post more rounds , you have perfected the tone of the anguished golfer in victory and defeat. The most painful brilliant 75.

I'm on a break at the moment - so when I hit, the most unreal, back to Celtic Tiger days traffic on M7/M9 area.
I was in car going, will I just sit here and get frustrated or play golf. :D

So Castlewarden is the perfect motorway golf course, there should be a guide like the Michelin in a way.

I get lazy on links courses - I hit putts from well off green - I get ball around course without any shape - a low mill. I get away with just powering sand based divots. I can putt better on Links too. Strange to say that - but It could be just mental.

So I'm trying to keep parkland golf as part of my thinking and practice - just be ready for it. It is a different game in my opinion . Well a different game for me.

I like Castlewarden , a very sensible layout , all in there , great greens , different shapes to holes.

When I get there - I see 4 lads from boards - yes, 4, know their Username and real name - that is sad, very, or now becoming an uncomfortable virtual reality.

Course holds up very well - but the rain it has been exposed to has made it very soft in walking areas.

So - didn't know what to expect off the tee - and hit a few draws - nice as was needed on certain holes.

    1 bad hole - bad chip , finished 4 over (for 9).

Putter not working well again, not horrible just not getting them in. But when you stop working on something it slips.

Anyway - great day for golf - hopefully the weather has turned , it was better than a traffic jam.

I hope there is no golf courses near me next week.
