Oh thats so exciting :) we are all for not finding out but could be a different story when we are in there :P we actually bought a quinny buggy that was on offer and only because my head was wrecked from looking at so many types and my sis in law had the quinny and I loved it. Other than that we have nothing else picked up. Baby Elegance have an offer for €999 for loads of bits and bops, I just didnt like the buggy but there are some nice bits in it and you only pay a deposit and then pay the balance 2 weeks before your due date. Have you much baby stuff bought?

Oh I hear ya! There are so many types of travel systems! So confusing when it's your first, we went with uppababy vista, bit more than we had hoped to spend but we fell in love with it. Needed big wheels for the country road. have car seat, base and a gliding crib bought, I got very carried away if I am honest. Have been picking up a few bits here and there too. we won't feel it till its October!

Has anyone joined tesco baby club?I joined a few weeks ago and forgot about it till I got vouchers in the post this morning :)

Hope everyone is keeping well. Great to see the thread getting a little bit more traffic :)

I have my anomaly scan this day week so praying everything goes ok.

Are you all feeling much movement? I get like a buzzy, vibration at the top of my tummy and im assuming that is the baby, but last few days I haven't felt anything.

I just want to get to the stage where the baby's kicks can be fully felt, so I can put my mind at ease

hey cruais, hope your scan goes ok :) How far along are you now? I have been feeling flutters all along and then last night we were sitting watching tv and eating :o and I got what I can only describe as a little electric shock in my tummy, it was the strangest feeling, my partner said I jumped off the seat and there has been nothing like that since, I think baby just does not like Salt n Vinegar pringles :P:P

Anomoly scan day...i've been looking forward to this day for so long!

I'm probably having a little girl.

Have to go back again to complete the anomoly scan tests as the position of the baby didn't allow for all the checks to be done. Lots of things looked good from what we saw... spine, ribs, hands and feet, and heart all ok.

Thats great entropy, its so nerve wrecking waiting for it isnt it! I had mine on Friday, it went great. We didnt find out the sex but Im convinced we're having a girl too, just a hunch! What is your due date? Any symptoms at this stage?

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭nono2012

aw ladies that's great news, I am delighted for ye both. Excellent all went ok. I am counting the days (3 weels) until I have mine :o

  • Registered Users Posts: 222 ✭✭orlyice

Great ladies, glad everything went well for ye x I'm in 2 weeks Myself!

  • Registered Users Posts: 92 ✭✭Entropy7

Due date is 7th Oct. I'm sure she'll arrive on that date exactly!!! ;-)

I was feeling great having reached 20 weeks - halfway there - but now I'm totally exhausted from today's excitement, nervousness and worry.

Symptoms that have appeared over the last 2 weeks are waking up with pins & needles in my left leg and heartburn. Tiredness is back too.

Eloramaternity is also a good site. Based in Ireland. My friend raved about the quality and seems reasonably priced.

Hi ladies. Hope everyone is keeping well. Just wondering how we all feeling? I'm gettin bigger by the day! Two weeks ago I bought quite a "bump proud" dress for a wedding next weekend and very worried that it won't fit!!!
Have the rest of ye felt much movement or kicks? I'm 22weeks (23 on sat) and have felt very little. My cousin worried me saying I should go to the GP!

Aw heldel, I hear u, my bump has gotten massive too! I thought I was bloated over last week r so I expanded so quickly. But seems to be bump! Ohh I am sure the dress will fit, it'll be hard being sober at the wedding.

Am I'm a few days ahead of u and have only been feeling proper movement the last 10 days r so. My placenta is at the front so cushions a lot of the movement. Could it be something similar for you? I went into the hospital to get checked out a few weeks ago coz I was worried but everything is ok. Might be no harm in ringing your GP or the hospital and chat to midwife, see what they say, will put ur mind at ease. What they said to me was to be concerned if there is a change in the pattern of movement.

Had my anomaly scan today, everything is great! Found out the sex too so went shopping on the way home :)

We have had two since I got pregnant and another eight to go between now and October!!!
I really don't mind not drinking at the weddings, to be honest I allow myself a small glass of wine with the meal, but when "stupid o clock" comes and ties are knotted around people's heads and trousers are rolled up to the knee, then that's when I head for the door!

I will ring the 24 hour number that the midwives from the unit have given me and ask their advice re: feeling very little movement. I know a girl who was 26 weeks before she felt anything so I could just be like that.

Delighted to hear your scan went well. Happy shopping!

hello ladies, i am the same, some movement but nothing that makes me jump and go "oh that was a kick". I am not worried tbh because the doc said its only when the baby gets to a certain weight that I wil feel it :)

Orlyice, thats great the scan went ok, and ye found out what ye are having. Me and my OH had this conversation the other morning and we are in 2 minds about finding out.. Right now we are all about not knowing but if we are in there and excited and they ask we will prob say go on tell us :D

Started this week for me. Fantastic feeling. Husband can feel it to because they are strong enough. It's very reassuring but as said already everyone different and it could be another while before others feel it.

    What's your EDD Cruais?

Hi all hope everyone is doing well. Haven't bein here in a while so I've had a few things happen..we went for our "big scan" a couple of weeks ago, we were very excited going and I was really hoping to come out of it feeling reassured however we were really disappointed. The nurse called us in, introduced herself and I hopped up on the bed and she began. Now she pointed out heartbeat, head, legs which we found really difficult to make out but we just found that we were shuffled in and out..I asked half way through it did everything look ok and the response was just she was still doin it! And when we were finished literally as I was walking out the door she just said everything looks fine and that was it! Now maybe that's how it's done but compared to our first scan (which was an early private scan) there was just no comparison and considering that some people might only get one scan it wasn't a great experience. I really hope I'm not sounding too harsh but its our first baby and a really exciting time..thank god we had a private one to look back on!
So rant over..I then went to meet the domino midwives and what a different experience! Cannot compliment them more! My placenta is low lying so they will monitor that in a couple of months and please God it will have risen itself.
I have had a couple of moments where my blood pressure dropped..the first resulting in me fainting in boots and ending up in a&e (very embarrassing;-)) and thankfully the second time i Knew what was happening.
Thankfully everything else is going great..starting to really expand now though it really depends what I wear which is getting more limited by the week!
Cruais I started to feel slight movements about 2 weeks ago but it's really after getting stronger in the last few days..I could even feel the baby moving when I pressed on my tummy with my hands yesterday morning.
Oh and according to my early scan I am 21 + 2 right now but I was at my gp for a check up on Friday and she reckons the baby is around 23 week size so I'm either a little further on or I'm havin a big baby😱
Anyways sorry for the long post helps to write it down:) hope everyone is feeling well:) Xx

Yep. Kicking and punching away here! All good! It's a lovely reassuring feeling. Just before I go to sleep, she gives a few nudges to let me know she's there.

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭nono2012

Hey Ladies, so I finally had my scan yesterday, Supersiren I know exactly what you mean when you said what your scan was like. Mine was the exact same, only for my partner asked a few questions I would be none the wiser. All is ok and thats the main thing but seriously, entertain us a little bit when its our first. anyway all is good and normal so thats a relief. I am none the wiser as to size, sex or anything else. If this is the "big scan" everyone is on about I am extremely disappointed.

God I'm glad that it wasn't just me..thought I souded like a right drama queen! As I said I'm so glad that we have our very first private scan to look back on..if we didn't I would definitely be booking myself in for one..well worth the money!
Has anyone got a hospital list of what is needed to bring with us yet? I didn't get one on the last visit and won't be due back until the end of next month and was hoping to start picking up a few bits each week..or even a good recommended link/ website where I would find one? Thanks!!

Hi ladies, quick question for any of you that have your appointments in the Ennis clinic on a Wednesday. Does it go on your appointment time or is a case of first come first seen?? :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,559 ✭✭✭cruais

Ladies, just a quick question about maternity leave. I would love to obviously get the max out of it, and so asked my consultant this morning what was the max i could work up to.

She told me that it was generally 38 weeks, but that i wont be feeling as good in 10 or so weeks time as i do now so to think about it.

My friend told me to tell work im due a week later than i really am as its generally accepted that you go over on your first, so i am confused.

    Any advice?

I'm planning to work up to 38 weeks. If I need time off earlier due to medical reasons, then the doctor can give a medical cert. I want to maximise time off work after the baby is born.

You have to supply work with a cert to verify your due date so I'm not sure how you could get away with it.

Under the Maternity Protection Act at least 2 weeks have to be taken before the end of the week of your baby's expected birth and at least 4 weeks after.

Nono I had only 1 appointment in ennis before I was deemed high risk and moved back to limerick but I was a bit early that day and got seen to quicker than other ladies who were at the same time. So I'm guessing first come, first seen.

Hi ladies. Just filling ye in on where I am. I'm in labour now, at 26 weeks, 4cm dilated. Waters haven't gone yet. Got steroids earlier to try strengthen baby's lungs, hoping to hold off until midnight so can get the second important steroid jab.

Woke up this morning to pains and a bleed, had a very light bleed yesterday but everything looked ok so sent home. So came in this morning, was having contractions every 5 minutes but they have eased off a lot, gone very mild and far apart. So praying he will stay in as long as possible. Haven't told family yet, have enough going on and they will be only worrying. But needed to share with someone. But this isn't affecting baby, he isn't bothered at all, heartbeat is very strong all day.

a baby boy born at 12:30am weighting a teeny 2lbs 1 ounce. Doing really well for his weeks, tried to cry and all. In icu, so one day at a time but right now they are happy with him, no name as of yet.

To say we are shocked is an understatement. Hubby went home around 10 to get me few bits, was checked around 12 and fully dilated. Hubby arrived back and got got second steroid injection at 12:15 so he only got a little bit in his system before he arrived. Paediatric team had only just arrived before he was born and he stabilised very quickly. Went to see him and in icu, he is teeny, loads of wires everywhere but not on oxygen which is good for his age.

Thanks everyone for their good wishes, still have a few pms to get to in next few days. I will try keep ye updated.

Orlyice, Mr orlyice and baby x

Little update, baby boy is doing remarkably so far, Off ventilator after 12 hours, on a cpap machine which helps breathing too but if he keeps going the way he is then he will be off that in no time too! Really remarkable how much stronger he gets every time I go down. Has even started crying which is heartbreaking when I can't pick him up and cuddle him. Changed 2 nappies for him, second one was the icky meconium one so bowels are working. The plan is to take him out of incubator today for a few minutes so I can do a little skin-to-skin with him. I am struggling with getting my own supply going, which is why I am up in the middle of the night, taking a break from trying to get a few more precious drops, But as they keep reminding me, my supply is premature too!

Have to also mention, the staff in Limerick maternity hospital have been so fantastic since we arrived in here. Couldn't fault them at all, everyone has been absolutely fantastic.

Congratulations on your baby boy, orlyice! I'm just popping in from the September 2015 thread. Glad to hear that you are both doing well and will be checking back for updates on your little one. :)

Great to hear he is doing so well Orlyice

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭nono2012

Orlyice that's great news, I am delighted he is doing so well, he will get stronger and stronger as the days go on and you will be able to take him home in no time. Also fair play to the staff in Limerick, its a relief to hear they are looking after ye so well.. Please keep us posted and big hugs and kissed to all of ye :) xx

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,832 ✭✭✭spottybananas

Orlyice try to remember when he cries and you can't cuddle him that that's a very good sign with premature babies, when they are able to cry, as it shows they have enough strength and air in their lungs to do it. Lots of the tiny babies in SCBU when my son was there were very, very quiet :(

Delighted your little boy is doing so well. Check out the Extended Breastfeeding in Ireland page on fb if you want advice and support of feeding him, it's not actually just for extended feeding now as the title says!

Wow Orylice congratulations! I'm so delighted to hear he is doing so well, what a little trooper!!! Glad to hear you are both being well looked after, it makes such a difference. Please do keep us informed on the little mans progress, you will be a proper little team in no time!
