Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Greydiamond,my son is 20 and he wants to join full-time gaurds too.He has passed the interview for the reserves just a short while ago.He was worried that they were looking for more mature people, but he was thrilled to hear he passed.Best of luck in your interview.:)

Had my interview today........really hope it went well. Ha, thought the written exercise was funny. Would really wanna update some of thoses pictures from the beach exercise :D As for the actual interview.............god they really know how to put you under pressure with some of the questions. Found the guard really nice, but the other woman was pretty scary..........................guess they were playing good cop bad cop:p

Hey all, i did my interview today, i dont think it went all dat well but on the other hand i think i did really good in the writing ecercise :) There didnt seem to be too many doing the interview and writing excercise in cork today, there was only 5 doing it

  • Registered Users Posts: 690 ✭✭✭CO19

What made you think it didn't go well ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 530 ✭✭✭scullersky

Am i kinda hesitated on a few answers and i didnt finish them rght!! The Superintendant was sound out tho.... the public appointments women wasnt so nice ...:)

  • Registered Users Posts: 690 ✭✭✭CO19

Ah I wouldn't say that would go against you being a bit hesitant sure they couldn't expect instant on the spot answers all the time, some of the questions require you to think a bit and you're not the only one to think the one from the public appoinments wasn't nice a few posts above another person said the same about his one, either way I wouldn't be worried about it ;) .

It says on the PAS website that it can take up to 6 months to get an interview date from initial application...Have most people had to wait that long or was it less than that? Thanks for the help

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,096 ✭✭✭ImDave

Just applied for the reserve yesterday. What is the typical waiting time for being called for interview, or can it be any length of time. Just wondering because I will be gone for a nice bit of the summer.

I applied yesterday also and from my research it seems to vary among areas and whether they are looking for reserves or not...It can take up to 6months to get a call for an interview

  • Registered Users Posts: 690 ✭✭✭CO19

I applied in January and I only got a letter last Tuesday asking me to fill in the interview form if I was still interested in it,I filled it in but I'm still waiting on them to get back to me with a date and time,so you're looking at at least a 3 month wait for some kind of contact unless you're lucky and get a quicker response.

hi Kerry4sam,hav'nt been on these boards for quite a while, but was following ur progress on the garda boards.so sorry to hear ur news.my son did aptitude in oct '07.he failed.he had applied for the reserves as well.about 6 months later he got word that he had an interview,he passed that.sent in backround checks in late Feb.Got a call about 2 weeks ago 2 go see the Superintendant, but he was working so could'nt go.said they'd ring with an appointment, but he heard nothing since.

certainly was a shock to the system but the drive and extra determination that i've got since then, from the feedback and support from people here on boards has been great :)
You know i don't have the same drive for the reserves that i have for an G.S. and don't mind when i get called for an interview...if it's 6months that'll be fine as i'll be re-applying for the G.S. then aswell, although the sooner i get stuck into the reserves the sooner i gain hands-on experience and have my backgrounds checks done which will also speed up my application for An G.S. but it'll happen in it's own good time.

As you've probably guessed my heart lies with An G.S. and that's my main aim, that's the career i want to pursue at length...Your son would be able re-apply for An G.S. in a few weeks when the campaign opens again at the start of May...has he any interest in doing so? The fact that he has got this far with the reserves will stand to him should he get to the interview stage as by then he would have had his main interview with the reserves and all that experience will do him no harm at all

Hi guys, im new to this thread. Was down at the open day yesterday and it was excellent. All the new recruits were there and they seemed to be having a great time! I was there because I'm interested in becoming a Garda but I still have two more years to do in college. I got some great info on the Reserves so I applied yesterday when I got home.
I'm 21 and from Dublin and am really keen on getting in. Do I have much of a chance? By the way is it a 6 month waiting list in Dublin and how do they contact you??

    Cheers!

Hi Karlokarl, think it depends on what area they're recruiting for at a time. When my son got word,it said they were doing the South East region.Of course you have a good chance of getting in.read as much information as you can..ie.Public Jobs, and the Garda boards.lots of information available.

is the report writing the same in the gr as it is in the regular garda interview?

You are given a scenario in a booklet (story board with pictures) that gets re-used, as opposed to being shown a video, you have to compile your report with dates, times places, witness statement#1, witness statement#2 and so on, leaving out the irrelevant information that's also included, it's do-able but time runs out just like in the regular test.

im going to do a prep course for the full time gardai and was wondering will the interview material in that be useful for the gr interview?

the GR interview is big on community involvement, teamwork, life experience, dealing with new challenges, "making a difference" :rolleyes:that kind of thing.

    Edit: you will be interviewed specifically on the 3 examples below from the notes for candidates;

The interview board will be particularly interested in hearing about your experiences in the following areas:
    (a) Making a difference in your community
    (b) Working as part of a team
    (c) Dealing with a new challenge

if the link doesn't work, google Garda Reserve Application Form, or alternatively you'll find it on the publicjobs.ie website.

When you go into the public appointments office for your interview,do you go to reception and say what you're there for or what's the story ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 109 ✭✭karlokarl

Hey CO19, I haven't done the interview yet myself but I presume there would be a specific area to go to for the GR interviews. You doing it soon?
I applied last week and I got an e-mail the other day saying that the interview would be in mid may and they'd be writing to me shortly with the exact date....that was fairly quick for an interview date wasn't it??

You just go in and say what you are there for, all manner of interviews take place there for all types of public jobs.

  • Registered Users Posts: 690 ✭✭✭CO19

They seem to be fast tracking things now,I did my interview on Wednesday then got a call on Thursday evening to say I had passed and to fill in the GR2 form, they're never that quick getting back to people.

Cheers lehan ;),ah they asked the usual stuff they seem to ask everyone, what I do in my community, what have I done that involved team work, any challenges I've encountered. They pretty much kept it on the 3 main points that's on the notes for candidate's i.e making a difference in your community, working as part of a team and dealing with challenges.
I was in for half an hour but it felt like 2 mins I couldn't beleive how fast it went in.

on average you should get a reply within 2 weeks

Yeah I think they are getting quicker with the process. I applied 3 weeks ago and I have an interview this Wednesday. What should you wear for the interview??

same as you'd wear to any interview, a suit!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 109 ✭✭karlokarl

Well, had the interview today. Report writing was fine, just not too sure about the interview itself. The interviewers didn't really reveal much or say anything encouraging....that's just the way it's run I suppose! Now for the wait for the results.....

Same with me Karl they didn't give any sort of hint etc at how it went when it was finished,if it's still being done the way mine was 2 weeks ago you should get a call tomorrow or Friday at some point asking you to fill out the GR2 form if you've passed but as I said before this may have just been a once off thing with me in the fast reply back to me.

I passed my interview and test back in february, and i am still waiting for them to get in contact with me for interview with sargeant and to recieve gr2 form. has anybody else been waiting this long or longer?

  • Registered Users Posts: 690 ✭✭✭CO19

You haven't gotten the GR2 form  I'd get onto them and find out what's going on,I'd say it's an error on their part somewhere along the line.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 109 ✭✭karlokarl

Thanks CO19! Was just a bit worried cause like yourself I'm fairly young (only 21) and am in college, although I do have a bit of work experience behind me! Hopefully I'll hear back with a good result soon!!

At least you have some idea of what the interview for An Garda Siochana will be like and it won't be as daunting for you ... Yeah saw that you applied for An G.S. , good luck with that process karlokarl :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 109 ✭✭karlokarl

Thanks guys! Don't know where I went down, think it was the interview! I applied for feedback so should find out what exactly went wrong. As I said, I'm only 21 and got the impression in the interview that they were loking for older people with more work experience because they started off by asking me bout my job when my application clearly said college student! Hopefully the interview for An G.S. won't be based so much around job experience and community involvement!! Ah well..time will tell!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 109 ✭✭karlokarl

Oh, by the way, Shakin, I didn't do any prep courses cause there's nothing really to prepare for. It's all about your community and life so you can't exactly do a course for that! The report writing went fine I felt - plenty of time. Have you applied for the Reserves?

Sorry to hear that Karl :( you probably got two gits for interviewers, mine just stuck to the 3 things that the notes for candidates says i.e community involvement-team work and differences you've made in your community that's it, so I wouldn't be really blamin yourself for not gettin through as I said you may have just been unfortunate with the two you got for the interview.
