I said faux hipster. Upcycled furniture, large gin menu, quirky light fittings. It's going for that whole east London look. Mother Macs does it as well...it just works a bit better.

Gin and quirky lights qualifies as hipster now? What?

    Oh for faux sake lads...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,301 ✭✭✭Alonso77

I get ya. It was pretty clear what you meant the first time, mainstream with a faux hipster kinda vibe. It's not a difficult concept, well I can't see the cause for confusion anyway.

Aside... I was working in a place where a guy brought his own jam jar in case he'd have to resort to drinking from a mug or a glass. Snacks on offer included some kinda greek? Turkish?stuff wrapped in vine leaves. Obviously kale juice was avaliable. Serious hipster stuff haha.

Some awful guff being spouted here -"faux hipster" - haha. They are just pubs serving various drinks with varying styles of decor. Go to the Red Hen on a weekend night and you'll see the same regular type of people as elsewhere not some guy with a monicle, handlebar moustache, sipping pimms and smoking a pipe and listening to LCD Soundsystem on his portable phonograph

Whatever about the Red Hen, I wouldn't describe the White House as hipster anyway!

What's the verdict? Is it actually being turned into a sports bar, and are those Munster rugby players behind it? They've ****ed up Munster rugby well enough, they may as well **** up one of the finest Victorian pubs in Ireland. Way to go lads.

I really don't see what this forums obsession is with whether things or places are hipster or not. We can't discuss something in Limerick without someone saying it's hipster and then having a big long discussion about it being hipster or not. Can we not just agree to disagree about things being hipster in Limerick.

What, did it make you bored lad? :pac:

So... you're saying a bar without these authentic hipster features is not an authentic hipster bar right?

But you can't understand why a poster would call it faux hipster for including some of commercialised versions of stereotypical "quirks".

The amount of hand holding and spoon feeding needed on here is off the scale boys and girls. The inability to understand "faux" is actually tragic.

What does a faux hipster look like? Is their twirly moustache fake or something? Now every time I am in the Red Hen I'll be trying to spot the faux hipsters.

The hipsters are not the issue here dude, I'm talking about drawing a line in the sand! Making a stand for written comprehension and common sense! :pac:

They look like you Tony, just like you. They sound like you. And they have below written average comprehension skills.

I'd imagine that "Irish bars" are never exclusively full of Irish people, nor are sports bars exclusively full of sporty people. Indeed, many of these "Irish" bars are as faux Irishy as you'd get. If that concept isn't just plain confusing for you.

But look, you carry on with mangling logic just for the sake of disagreeing with someone.

"Your points" lol. Look, quite simple , The Red Hen is not a haven of the hipster, faux hipster, po-mo ironic or any other kind of lazy daft label you can summon up. No amount of foot stamping and complaining you are being misunderstood will change that.

Is a gin menu a hipster (faux or otherwise) thing?

Gin would be my tipple of choice for many years, so I welcome a bit of choice beyond cork dry ****e and vile club tonic.

What's normal, smithwicks with a side of boiled spuds?

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,015 ✭✭✭✭Mc Love

Gin has started to become a lot more popular in the last year or so. but maybe this topic is better served in the random waffle thread?

Tom Collins pub has a good gin menu . But don't say it too loud or the hipster police will start whinging. 😀. Anyway, not go drag this thread off topic anymore, maybe we should have a hipster or nay pub thread !

Debenhams moves to cut rent roll at loss-making Irish stores

Not a closure announcement as such but it looks like Limerick's Debenhams is one of 3 stores most likely to shut down as part of examinership process. Not good news for the city. I can see Dealz or Eurogiant queuing up to occupy that unit!! 😟

They could dedicate a whole floor to boiled sweets...

Yes, that's true but how long before it is replaced by another establishment that can employ the same people again. I'm sure there are enough takeaways around for the guys there to find a new job.

See Hmv is having a closing down sale in the Cresent. I thought they were going to stay open & not close again. (side note gamestop & smyths will be only place to get console games now)

All the stores are closing and the company is becoming some sort of online streaming service like Netflix it seems crazy to me as that market is already saturated in my opinion.

Am I the only one who feels it is a little bit sad that HMV closing down has somebody concerned about a reduction by one of the number of places to buy video games in Limerick.
