Didn't expect that now in fairness. I was waiting and waiting for some arrow to sever the rope, and when Billy said "Now" i thought the lads were going in to start the rescue. Was wrong on that too! Talk about making sure!

Yeah, I was just thinking of Prince of Thieves.

Billy will have to explain that now, though he may wait for a rebellion to start before he goes anywhere.

Great finish to the series and setup to the next, clear sides drawn and issues on both sides, it's a great show really, the new Spartacus :D

I only realized after it ended that it's the finale :(
Amazing season though! Probably my favorite show only behind GOT.

I'm living in hope that because Jerry Bruckheimer is a producer that as long as they keep making Pirate of the Caribbean movies that they'll keep making Black Sails, even though it all ends in Treasure Island there's loads of possibility in it.

Love this series!! My favourite at the moment. The long wait begins now for the next season.

Can't understand why its not more popular and that the viewer numbers are so low compared to other series.

Only got around to the last 4 episodes now and just watched them all back to back. Bloody fantastic and can't wait for the next season!

I was looking for something new to watch after finishing another tv series and didn't want to start GOT just yet, caught this out of the blue and being a massive pirate fan immediately LOVED it. I got through every episode in less than 2 weeks. desperate for more now! if anyone is wanting to feed their pirate fix till the next series starts I highly recommend playing assassins creed 4 or assassins creed rogue and the movie master and commander.

Haha , yeah I was playing Assassins Creed Black Flag when I first heard about this show. Good times plundering after watching an episode :)

    Is this worth watching?

Trying to fill my Game of Thrones/Vikings void

    Cheers

Definitely. A lot better than Vikings. The first season is a bit slow but it kicks off in the later episodes. Season 2 and 3 have been fantastic television. Great characters.

Oh how I love this show, the way the fight/battle scenes are shot is amazing, gives a great feel of just how bloody it must have been. Amazing characters too, they did some brilliant casting when selecting the roles.

Last seasons sea battles were really well done.

The battle at the end of season 2 with the aerial bombardment was nuts, felt like the D-Day landing from Saving Private Ryan in terms of sheer effectiveness.

Only started watching this after Game of Thrones ended as I was looking for something that ticks all the boxes - first season is slow enough and being honest, far too soap-like for me in spots, but it improves massively towards the end and throughout season 2. Looks gorgeous as well, very convincing naval battle scenes.

I found the first series had more direction , Ive about 3 to go on the second but found a few episodes a bit meandering. Hopefully it finishes strong

Only realized there that the actor who plays Woods Rogers played Ser Arthur Dane in Game of Thrones.

Keep with it lad. The third series is the best imo. The ending of the second is rather good too.

One of the strongest aspects of the show is that every series ends well. One of the reasons you put up with some of the cheap mid-season episodes is that you know the money is being saved for the big finish.

True. Also it allows the show to build over a season. Simple tv, but they do it very well.

Season 2 I thought was fantastic story wise.

Starz just announced that the fourth season of its original series Black Sails will be its last. The 10-episode Season 4 of the Treasure Island prequel returns in 2017 with its pirates at war in the West Indies.

Final season? Thats a real shame.

It would be perfect for HBO. Maybe they'd take it on?

I don't know, everyone knows the "sequel" and at this stage they have the treasure and the main antagonist (Charles) is dead so unless they want to drag it out for a few series I think a 10 episode final series is ideal.

Someone earlier on in the thread made reference to the end of season 2 being reminiscint of Saving Private Ryan, I was watching it and thinking okay, not quite seeing it but still a great finale. Of course then I got to the finale of Season 3 and now assume they got the season numbers mixed up because that was an epic finale, like something out of a movie.

I watched it earlier on the TV and it's very very very dark, I'll be watching it again on the laptop to see what I missed, it's a great show.

I'll miss this show when it's gone. It certainly has matured as it went on. There really is nothing else like it on tv at the moment.

I feel the same, and the same about Vikings, low budget meh first season for both but they just matured more and more as they went on until they were some of the best things on tv, Hell on Wheels was another one like that.

Really? feck, i kind of gave up on all 3. Might go back around and give them another chance.

I honestly find it hard to understand how such a high budget show is made on such (relatively) low viewing numbers. I mean, for example, Vikings has triple to quadruple the viewership, and this is very comparable in terms of production values? The special effects, naval battles and even on-shore battles are immense in scale, and very frequently 'Hollywood' quality, but the viewership is quite low (500-800k typically).

Black Sails is hard to get into, I gave up several times, but once you really start to invest in the world and characters, it is excellent viewing. Not quite as gripping as Vikings though.

I honestly think this is miles ahead of Vikings in terms of quality. Last years season of Vikings was poor enough tbh but this season has been a major step up.

Black Sails doesnt get any marketing or hype at all, Id say one good ad campaign would quadruple its viewership, I never see articles about it anywhere, no interviews with the actors, no discussion on Reddit, anything, its like it doesn't exist to most people. Nobody in my workplace has ever heard of it.

This is a very much under the radar show but I've enjoyed it since day 1 and am really enjoying this years arc. I always thought the whole "massive budget" was a tax write off kind of thing.

I wonder will we ever find out if Flint actually threw Billy off the ship in that storm in season 1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,284 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

If i'm not mistaken, isn't it fact that he did? Thus the lack of trust and the obvious anger from Billy towards Flint, Flint let him go in order to progress his own agenda; which is in everyone's interest, but sucks if you're not Flint because you're disposable to the cause.

A great episode this week they really are ramping it up now as they are coming to the end.

I still hold out hope Starz will finish the whole thing off with either a tv movie or mini series of treasure Island with this cast.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

That was a fantastic episode. So much to process, and a huge strides that could have been dragged out needlessly over the course of a few episodes. If the upcoming episodes keep this pace up it'll be spectacular.
