Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    SFC 1/4 Finals:

    Celbridge v Carbury/Confey
    Moorefield v Johnstownbridge/Round Towers
    St Laurence's v Naas/Raheens
    Athy v Sarsfields/Maynooth

    Celbirdge v cabury/confey - Celbridge
Moores v JTB/Towers - Moores to beat JTB by 2.

Larries v Naas/Raheens - hardest of all to call. Larries by 1 over Naas.

    Athy v Sarsfields/maynooth
    Sarfields by 4

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

It's Moorefield's to lose. Celbridge probably have the best 1 to 9 in the county but they have struggled for scores when it matters so Brophy will have to hit form. Athy's temperament is always questionable. They have enough talent in their ranks for sure but haven't managed to put it all together consistently. The league win suggests they might be turning that corner. Sarsfields were poor yesterday but any club in Ireland would miss Smith and McCormack. They will be a different animal with them back and the extra game will allow them to get more football into Hartley, Ryan and Kavanagh. Potential Athy v Sarsfields quarter final is easily the tie of the round and whoever comes through there will have momentum.

I can't see anyone else figuring. Larries are too reliant on Fogarty. Ditto Carbury with O'Flaherty. Confey have fallen back. Naas are still a work in progress. JTB have some of the best players in the county in their ranks but they don't have the depth that the bigger teams have.

Fairly comfortable win for Celbridge. Should be a good final.

    Is that a big shock?

Yeah Cloghs were going well earlier on and were expected to win but Nurney have hit form. Monasterevin beating Ballyteague would have also been a bit of a shock. It looks like the larks were caught on the hop in the first half and gave themselves too much to do.

Anyone know dates for the senior football and intermediate finals?

  • Registered Users Posts: 122 ✭✭Browning

Intermediate Final is the Sunday 14th and the Senior Final the following Sunday 21st. The Senior Hurling final is either 7th or the 13th depending on how Celbridge go in the football at the weekend v Carbury.

Fine performances from Niall Kelly and Liam McGovern deservedly see Athy past a Paddy Brophy-less Celbridge team.

Leixlip will not feature in the SFC next year for the first time since before Jack O'Shea was playing for them.

They might actually be required to win an IFC now.

Presume TMH and Moorefield will be strong favourites?

Moorefield will be favorites alright but Athy beat them in the league final and are more battle hardened throughout the championship so they’ll have a chance

Any thoughts on the Senior Hurling Final on Saturday Ardclough v Celbridge. Made a few €€ on Ardclough v Naas last year. Can they do back to back ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

Ardclough are a hardy team but Celbridge have more experience and are more battle hardened than the Naas side they beat last year. Celbridge are not the force they were when they had Gerry Keegan leading the forward line but the availability of Fergal Conway is a big plus to their attack. Bookies seem to have Ardclough as slight favourites but I would have it the other way around. There's huge rivalry between both clubs and most of the Ardclough players would have gone to secondary school in Celbridge. It should be a close contest.

London, Meath and Roscommon for the hurlers

Joe Mallon Motors Renault SFC Final:

    Moorefield 2-12 Athy 2-9

Moorefield champions again. Athy shot themselves in the foot time and time again and Moorefield did what they do best, win big matches in Newbridge. Naas beat Clane to land the minor title.

Elsewhere Tom Cribbin and Karl O'Dwyer joining Cian O'Neill's management team with Enda Murphy and Roli Sweeney stepping away.

Ya have to feel sorry for the goalie who was giving his name to the ref. Ref thought he was messing, so gave him a second yellow. Didier Cordonnier.

Happened an old school mate of mine too back in the day. James Bond.

Davy Burke new Sarsfields manager. At the very least it's great to see him still involved in Kildare football. Would have been sad to see him head further afield

Cavan and Kildare played a challenge yesterday. Anyone know how it went?

Cavan won by 4. Kildare light enough on numbers with Sigerson, TMH and injuries. Presume Cavan were in a similar boat.

No sorry. Only going on what I heard second hand. Kildare were down to the bare bones anyway. Chris Healy, Peter Kelly and Mark Sherry were playing with TMH and Jimmy Hyland, Mark Hyland, Jason Gibbons and David Malone were playing with NUIM. Paddy Brophy and Kevin Flynn are out injured and Paschal Connell, Podge Fogarty, Brian McLoughlin and John O'Toole are gone from the Panel.

Mick O'Grady and Neil Flynn are suspended so they will be joining Brophy and Kevin Flynn on the absent list for the league opener. Difficult task in the circumstances.

Lads just curious as to the expectations around young Jimmy Hyland?

He is some talent based on what I saw of him in the under 20s championship last year.Unfortunately I saw him up and close in the final.

Such a shame the exquisite talent that is Daniel Flynn won't be gracing our fields this year.Best of luck to him with his studies.
