Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

How did things get this bad, I'm in a very dark place this morning. Feels like this will never end and this problem will never go away :(

Got to sleep eventually but was awake at 5.30am, heart pounding, completely panicked. In work now feeling exhausted and sick to my stomach. Really wish I could just go home and stay in bed for the day.

Why don't you just go home sick?

I had a mini breakdown this morning and called into work sick.

Krypton, speaking for myself i'm on a warning for calling in sick, despite having doctor's notes. Depends on the job i guess. How are you today?

LanaFey, could you sneak to the bathroom or somewhere for fifteen minutes to calm yourself, maybe breathing exercises or something?

This is my first time being out sick in this job, I'm there about 3.5 months. My boss seemed grand when I talked to him.

I'm so-so today. Really thought I was on the mend last night for an hour or two, felt normal again. Things started to go bad again towards bed time and woke up just before 5am feeling like there was no point going on.

    No problem.

I don't get it. This time last week the thing I'm worried about wasn't much of a concern at all, I wasn't giving it much thought. How can one thread on boards.ie completely derail me so much?

I'm gonna say doctor google syndrome - the horror stories online make your usual logic feel flawed..

Ugh, tell me about it. Trying not to google certain things at the moment as I know there's a chance it could make things worse.

I just don't get how I let myself start thinking this way and let it get so out of control.

Too anxious to ask my boss if I can go home sick. Feeling sick because I'm anxious. Funny how that works :o

Much as I'd love to go home I'd just be doubling Monday's workload for myself :( Better to be here at least being somewhat productive.

Cheers for the suggestion Gremlinertia, the bathroom is becoming my second office at this rate! Went there for a few minutes just to calm myself down, it's helped a bit. I've also fired off a few mundane texts to people just to occupy my mind and convince myself that the entire world does not in fact hate me.

No reply from the two therapists my GP recommended to me :( so I've started looking at other options in the hope of getting an appointment next week, really can't wait any longer. Just wish this process didn't involve making phone calls, I hate talking on the phone.

Has anyone here ever called someplace like the Samaritans, or Pieta house or any place like that?

  • Registered Users Posts: 43 LanaFey

I can vouch for Pieta House, rang them about three years ago and did counselling through them. Really turned my life around at the time. They are great and will never turn away anyone in crisis. Definitely give them a ring.

Do you have to go see them? I looked at their website and it seemed like they kind of want you to show up and bring someone along and I don't think I want to do either.

  • Registered Users Posts: 43 LanaFey

Yeah, I'm not 100% sure as it was a few years back but I think their focus is on meeting with them there. You don't have to bring someone with you though. It still might be worth giving them a call.

Krypton im going to see someone there the last couple of weeks and I find the whole thing really relaxing. My therapist said theres nothing they havent heard before so you can literally tell them anything. I rang and made an appointment for myself and got one for the next day...

I have to travel home tomorrow and I am off on Monday. It's possible the issue I am so stressed about will be gone soon, but then again it might not. Even if it does go away, its obvious I need some sort of counselling/CBT and possibly medication.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,159 ✭✭✭stinkle

even if the issue does go away you're stressed right now and it's having a bad effect on you. hopefully talking to someone will help. I found psychotherapy useful in working out how and why I cope the way I do sometimes

    kryptonmight,

If the issue is work related, could you talk to someone there about it? Like to see if you could be excused from it or what have you

    Thanks Hugo.

Its a personal matter involving a girl so not work related. I think I'm going phone one of those places. I just fell like the stress will never end.

    Sorry to hear that kryptonmight.

Fingers crossed it goes well for you.

Regarding people to talk to, have you looked into anything like the Aware group meetups?

    A technique I find helpful:

    Get comfortable!

Breathe using your diaphragm but (this bit is important) when your belly is going out (therefore when you are breathing in), think 'OUT'.

When breathing out (belly going in), think 'IN'.

So, the thought is the opposite of the breath direction. It is easier if you just remember that you think 'OUT' when your belly is going out, and 'IN' when your belly is going in.

If you lose the flow or get distracted by extraneous thoughts, just start again.

Sounds simple, but lots of effective techniques are...

There is another related technique which I can't remember - I think it is a three-stage process. If anyone knows what it is, please post it here! :)

Feeling a tiny bit better but afraid to say so or embrace it in case things get worse.

Can I just shut my brain off for a few weeks?

Oh well hope most of ye don't have to leave the house today. :-)

    Hello all

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,903 ✭✭✭✭Rothko

Today hasn't been too good. It's manageable though. I'm just finding it a bit more difficult to block out all the negative thoughts. I'll get through it though.

My daily dosage of Lexapro has gone up to 15mg from 10mg and I'm just wondering what other poster's experiences have been with this. I know we're not supposed to give medical advice on here but I'm not looking for any. The doctor said that the side effects shouldn't be any worse from such a small increase, which I'd expect, but I'm just looking to hear from someone who has had first hand experience with it.

Honestly, it's individual and varies from person to person. Could be completely different in the way that it effects you, the next person, person after that etc.

I haven't been on that drug at all but I can't comment on it specifically. Other ones I've been on when getting the doses increased I've found that it can sometimes upset my stomach, dry mouth and emotionally can be a little bit edgier if that makes any sense.

Im not on it either but dry mouth is one of the side effects of mine also

Venlafaxine has a very short half-life, so tapering off is a long-term and slow process. If going below 75mg, what dose has your doctor stipulated? If it is too sharp a decrease, your pharmacist should be able to make up an intermediate dose for you to try. So, instead of going from 75mg to 37.5mg for instance, they could make 60/62.5mg capsules, then 50mg capsules.

Does your discontinuation schedule include varying between previous (e.g. 75mg) dose and new lower (e.g. 37.5mg) dose on an increasing pattern? That is, when stepping lower, you take your first lower dose of 37.5mg on the first day, next day back to 75mg, next two days 37.5mg, next day 75mg, next three days 37.5mg. Not in that exact pattern maybe, but I hope you know what I mean. This is the preferred method, afaik.

Also, while the discontinuation effects of venlafaxine are fairly extreme, they are relatively short-lived (about a week in total from a cold-turkey stop?).

From what I have read, it's all about the neurotransmitter systems having to up-regulate to normal after having been artificially modulated for so long.

Again, this is personal opinion only. I am not a doctor.

A word of warning on the practicality of this advice. After 14 years of working in Irish dispensaries I have yet to come across any community pharmacy that had the capability to manufacture capsules in the way you describe. Production standards, IMB standards have all but removed extemporaneous dispensing from the pharmacy repertoire other than one or two very basic methods.

I doubt it does for everyone, but seems to for the majority, periods of ok followed by periods of not so f**king ok and back to ok again (even if it seems like ok will never return, it does, to complete the cycle)
