They have college or work commitments? That is essentially what I mean. How many times have they done this?

    Let there clubs down?

Whats wrong with expecting a bit of commitment.

Nothing at all. And I am sure they are well committed to their clubs. I don't know one club player that hasn't, at one time or another been put in a position where they had to forego championship game(s) for reasons. Just because these are county players doesn't mean they aren't entitled to make a personal decision like that as well.

There's the flip side of always being on call to the club. There is life outside the club. Personally, I spent the better part of a decade of adult life playing football, hurling and rugby for clubs. One season/sport rolled into another. The only down time was injury. I have lifetime friends and great memories but do wish I had been more selfish at times.

Just to be clear, we are talking about a lad heading to america, directly after kildare were knocked out to play football over there. Rather than staying and playing for the club.
Hardly the most compelling of personal reasons.

It's no different to lads heading off after college exams. A student intercounty player would generally have to pass up part time employment throughout the year due to schedules. If there's an opportunity to go abroad and also earn some money to help them through college that sounds like a good enough personal reason to me. Money is not thrown at these guys.

IMHO, you are showing a lack of respect to their personal lives rather than them to their clubs.

Oh. Get over yourself. This is what young people do, see the world a bi when they get a chance. You sound begrudging and bitter. Would you prefer if they pulled out of the county champion ship as well then.

3 months opportunity over the course of years and years service to their clubs.

If they didn't do it they would probably, in 15 years time be spouting the same begrudging nonsense as this at other young players out of resentment and regret they didn't take the opportunity.

Why not do it in may and june when very little club action on.

    U21FC Final:

    Naas 0-7 Moorefield 0-6

Naas add the u21 football title to go with the u21 hurling, minor football and minor hurling titles.

Appeal hasn't been heard yet. Celbridge are to present video evidence at it.

Rugby has taken a lot of players from GAA in Kildare. One match a week in rugby instead of multiple in GAA. Add on secondary school match commitments.

Lots of clubs are struggling to field teams.

    Leinster IHC Final:

    Leinster IHC Final:

    Celbridge 1-16 Carrickshock 3-12

Carrickshock score three goals in the last few minutes and only led in the last few seconds for the first time in the game. Incredibly tough pill to swallow for Celbridge.

    O'Byrne Cup:

    Kildare 1-15 Longford 0-12

Typical early season fare. Niall Kelly, Fergal Conway and Eoin Doyle made the difference for Kildare. Conor Hartley probably the most impressive of the newer players. Good to see Sean Hurley back towards the end. Kildare will play Carlow IT on Wednesday night in Hawkfield.

    Hi all,

Sallins hurlers are currently looking for a new manager to take the reigns (team of wild horses) of our adult hurling team for 2017.

We've a team of committed / exciting hurlers that are raring to go after having had some success over the last couple of years with a league final and a championship final appearance. As a club, we're now ready to take the next step.

Drop us a line (sallinshurling@gmail.com) or a PM if this is something that you would be interested in.

Incidentally, if anyone wants to help out in other ways or play this year, please also give us a shout.

    Thats another pretty strong team

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

O'Neill was quoted before Christmas that they probably used too many players last year. He should have a better idea this year of who's out there and will have his panel nailed down earlier in the year. Kildare also need to hit the ground running in the league with Meath (away), Cork (home) and Derry (away) in the first three fixtures. Lose those three and we could well be back in Division 3 before we know it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,698 ✭✭✭StupidLikeAFox

Yeah I agree, its not necessarily a bad thing. A few previous managers were guilty of tinkering with their teams well into the championship.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

Tonight is a pointless exercise. Offaly on Sunday should provide a good early test for the younger guys like Shea Ryan, Conor Hartley and Ben McCormack.

    O'Byrne Cup:

    Kildare 4-24 Carlow IT 0-1

Goals from David Slattery, Cathal McNally, Neil Flynn and Tommy Moolick.
