Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

MAJOR DEVIATIONS FROM THE BOOK AHOY!!! BEWARE SPOILERS!!
So much for dragging out Tyrion's journey through Essos

I don't know how to feel about that but what I do know is that if by some sheer miracle I would really appreciate the next book being released before next season. Stating the obvious and preaching to the choir there I know :pac:

Although I guess they may have given a good stab at solving
    the Meereenese Knot

    Based on that, could
    Aegon
    be cut completely?

Not sure how to feel about this, but maybe T is part of Hizzdars entourage! and Hizzdar and Yezzan are being merged.

I think we're looking at the final episode, maybe final scene so there probably is still some room for
    Aegon and Griff
    in the opening episodes

And the fact that the two mediums have to be treated as separate stories just rammed itself home in my brain...

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,305 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Prodston

The casting must surely be complete by now though. Has there been any more than that list that was mainly for Dorne, the High Sparrow etc over the summer?

If not it seems there's no Arriane, Aegon, Griff but most importantly the supreme badass mastermind of the North...Wyman Manderley

But I haven't been paying attention for the last few months really.

No Greyjoys, no Aegon, Tyrion/Dany's first encounter spoiled on TV

I really, really hope we get a 2015 release.

    Any sign of Quentyn?

    Any sign of Quentyn?

    Fully expected
    Quentyn
to be the first one culled when they were trimming the fat off the AFFC/ADWD storylines in fairness.

    Apart from
    watching him get toasted
the story doesn't really offer that much.

That really annoyed me. His story had so much potential..

All it does offer is in the book context
is that his death (however much is own fault) breaks whatever alliance could have been forged between Dany and Dorne. And will shift Prince Doran to backing Aegon and Griff assuming he can marry off Arianne.

Although with Quentyn, Aegon and Griff cut it looks like it all will be very different.

I'll still watch it and love every second of it.

No reason to believe he's been cut, any number of ways he could be introduced next season or even the end of this season.

There are many theories that Quentyn is still alive so this is all quite strange... I'm really not liking what they are doing with the story next season :(

Why bother? He was the most pointless character in the entire series.

These changes sound good to me. The last thing anyone would want is a scene by scene filming of feast/dance. It looks like Dany and Tyrion will actually do something in season 5, which can only be a good thing!

Actually it's kind of funny that GRRM spent years trying to sort out his "meereenese knot" and D&D seem to have worked it out in a few months :pac:

Probably a bit too much for us to ask. I'd be happy to let him finish his story at his own pace.

Yeah but the meereenese knot was caused because GRRM wanted to age up the children and wanted to do a time jump of 5 years. When that wasn't working out (because of too many flashbacks to explain what actually happened in the interim) he had to s-t-r-e-t-c-h out Danys storyline.

GRRM's UK publisher was linked an article on Twitter back in September that supposedly quoted her as saying it would not be a 2015 release, she replied to the tweet with:

" 'Not a 2015 release'. No change there as far as I'm aware."

The original article she was linked was replaced with a different one but her tweet is still up.

    Wha? Where?

"It took three days for the Prince of Dorne to die". I actually laughed at the last line of that chapter "oh" :pac:

I just finished the books last night, bit sad. In the series, they could probably leave out Tyrion's fannying about and Quentyn Martell and I'm not really sure what the point of FFC was.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,508 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

    Wha? Where?

I think there is effectively a theory about anyone who has died, basically its possibly to grab a few lines here, a bit of speech there etc and make a case for any of them to be alive.
Heres the 'Quentyn is alive' evidence.

I'm not really sure what the point of FFC was.

You'll find its your favourite book on your reread in a few years.

You only have to read The Queen and The Princess to know that Quentyn Martell is alive.

So his blood of the dragon saved him?

It is suggested that those of Targaryen Blood or Ancestry had what it took to master/tame Dragons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,638 ✭✭✭✭Witcher

How did that save him from being laced by dragonfire?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,047 ✭✭✭GerB40

Is The Queen & The Princess a separate novel? I seriously want to nerd up on Westerosi lore so where should I start?

Start with the Dunk & Egg Tales

We were told he was! But did we see it?

    Yes, from his own POV;

When he raised his whip, he saw that the lash was
burning. His hand as well. All of him, all of him was
burning. Oh , he thought. Then he began to scream.

    Rhaenyra
    now did it?

Nice one. I've heard about these and Dunk (Ser Duncan the tall?) seems like an interesting character.

One more question, are the Dunk and Egg Tales one book or a series of books like ASOIAF?

He gets engulfed in Furnace Wind, not fire, and only notices his hand is on fire when he sees it, he doesn't feel it.

    You should google the theory.

So far there are three dunk and egg novellas

    The hedge knight
    The sworn sword
    The mystery knight

They are short stories that are only available in collection. Try google.

But he begins to scream, so surely he does feel it?

But he begins to scream, so surely he does feel it?

There's no way GRRM would introduce a new character like Quentyn just to kill him off. He's the second head of the dragon.

The Quentyn theory is worth a read. As is the Dorne Conspiracy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,508 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

But he begins to scream, so surely he does feel it?

He only begins to scream after he sees that he is on fire, a possible implication being that he doesn't actually feel the flame.
Its a curiously constructed sentence by GRRM.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,297 ✭✭✭Son0vagun

And Targaryens can get burnt, but Dragon fire is magic!

    Very worried about these changes.

I felt that some things have really started to wobble a bit in the last couple of seasons but doing a complete rewrite of the entire story is taking it a bit far.

I don't think it's complete rewrite. I think they're rewriting in an attempt to speed things up. They've only got two seasons left after this one and it's pretty clear in the books that
    Tyrion and Dany will meet

That's what he means, they're speeding that up because of time constraints.

I don't mind any of the changes really, the series needs a good fcuking editing truth be told.

Season 5 starts on April 12th.

Seems about 2 weeks later than normal but I presume Easter falls the week before.
