Was looking forward to a gratuitous shot of a Mercian :( :pac:.

Mercian unfortunately very much deceased but lives on in my thoughts and name. Can post a very sad photo of a much foreshortened frame when I get back if you insist.

The current trusty steed in front of Mallos de Riglos between Pamplona and Huesca in Northern Spain. A tough day of 176k with over 2000m of climbing.

Whipped out my protractor, and I'm getting about a 110 degree slope, there.

Hey xxyyzz, is it possible to cycle much of the Dingle Way ?

I did a quick google for cycling the dingle way and, as usual, get pointed to some crappy tourism sites that give details of bike hire shops rather than route details.

I'll be down that way early Sept and thinking of bringing a bike with me. Original plan was road bike and to do a loop by road but would be interested in an MTB option. Will be based in Dingle so thinking of Dingle to Cloghane loop on MTB. I'm guessing worse case you are never far from a R or L road if you hit a section that is not passable by bike.

Will be getting train into Tralee so will do the Tralee - Camp - Anascaul - Dingle leg on the Friday as per http://www.dingleway.com/trail-maps/index.php

    Thanks.

Cirque de Troumouse, best climb in the Pyrénées. 40km long and climbing 1700m to 2100m altitude.

    Thanks.

Dunno much about that section. I just did from Tonevane to Curraheen. It was fun but parts of it are extremely rough and I had to push for long sections.

If you're in that part of the world there's a good loop starting at Annascaul lake. There's a steep trail that goes up above the lake and over the mountain. There's a narrow descent down into the Glenahoo valley on the north side of the mountains. If you're feeling frisky :D you can pedal back up the Connor pass and there's an offroad descent back down into Dingle. There's a thread on it here, but ignore the map as its for a different route altogether.

Make sure you do it after a dry spell as it can get quite boggy up there.

Not my usual steed or route but something different. A family spin on a leisurely 7.5km around Toronto Island. I hate to have to use one of these regularly!! Good fun all the same.

smacl - is that route doable on a road bike (23mm tyres?)

Doable if its been dry like today, but maybe not so comfortable. Lots of coarse gravel and a few rutted sections, so you'd want a robust tyre. I'd say 25mm or 28 if you can fit them would make for a nicer day. I covered a fair amount of unpaved boreens and fire roads in Kerry a couple of weeks ago on the road bike and was surprised how well it stood up, using 25mm Durano plus which seem to take undue abuse no problem. Main thing I noticed today was the SPDs with cages on my hybrid (M424s) are nicer to cycle on bad surfaces than the cageless M520s on my road bike. Shoes you can walk in to navigate the gates also make life easier.

Thanks. I might give it a shot in the single speed which has 25mm and SPD's.

Took a nice light spin out the road. I generally run loops and don't stop so breaking my virginity posting in this thread. Had to take a coffee break today though. :)
