Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Why are you single?

The settling thread has gotten me thinking. Folks that are single, why? By choice or because you have met the right person yet?

I'm single. Mostly but not entirely by choice. I do enjoy being single, so I'm not looking that hard. I enjoy relationships in theory (and have had several that lasted for 1-2 years), but in practice I think I'm massive commitment-phobe. Anytime I date someone, I run for the hills at the the first sign of drama or complication.

    Why?

    1. My face
    2. My body
    3. My personality

  • Registered Users Posts: 381 ✭✭TheKells

Because the girls run at first sign of seriousness/drama, but they were so far apart I picked the "can't meet people" option.

I'm fat, ugly, broke, unemployed and have a hankering for redtube. That might be a problem for some chicks

    Otherwise it's a big giggidy.

I think you can pretty much change all three at this point, given enough time, money, and effort.

It can be intimidating to be a beautiful, muscly, charismatic guy. But hold on in there and you'll find a girl who can handle all your charms. I did.

I wouldn't mind seeing a girl. There's lots of attractive girls around, but very few who seem to trigger any kind of reaction in me. I'm talking the smallest percentage of the female population. I'm often just very "meh" over everything.

Not quite sure what my malfunction is actually. I don't think I've got insanely high standards or something.

Because I've been completely broke for the majority of the last year and I can't afford to go to clubs to meet new womenz.

Eh. Birthdays are the worst time to be in a relationship. Your OH is either making more of a fuss than you'd like, or not making nearly enough of a fuss as you'd like.

It's nearly as bad when it goes the other way. When you get a bugle at the first sight of a female

Im Getting married in a year or so.

I decided to get into a relationship because of the increase in price of electricity.

It was getting too costly to do my own washing, so i needed a woman to do all my washing by hand for me. Its rather good though... where else does your washing machine do your washing for you, cook as well - clean the house - and on top of that - you can ride it..

Telling you, value for money i say.

I should've had a "I'm too picky." option on the poll - it def seems to be a common enough problem among a lot of the folks I know, especially lads of who spend a lot of time on the computer, playing video games, etc. I know it's pretty dime store sociology, but I do wonder if too much media consumption does lead to unrealistic expectations for real life.

I'm single because I want to be. I haven't met anyone yet who I could see being in my life for a prolonged period of time and I couldn't be bothered 'dating' short-term. I guess I'm just waiting to find someone who makes the juice worth the squeeze.

You could be right. I'm not quite sure what it is with me though. I don't have this mentality where I'll only go after absolute supermodels and anything less is unacceptable. I mean occasionally I will meet a girl and there will be some sort of a surge of excitement when I first see her. It happened recently enough with a girl. The problem is that it happens so rarely and the girls it does happen with, for whatever reason are either uninterested or unavailable.

And I'm not talking girls who are supermodels either. This most recent girl was a normal girl, dressed quite conservatively, but just something about her did it for me.

I guess I just wish that would happen more often with single girls who have the same reaction when they see me.

    Because I'm a playa.

    Nahh.

Just don't really want to be in a relationship. Well, I wouldn't mind it. But I'm not seeking it out or anything.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

and theres only 1 girl i want to be with :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,068 ✭✭✭yermandan

I jump in too much too soon and that has scared the most recent girl away!!! Not a bad thing though because I know what not to do now and am addressing why I do it in the first place!!

My guess is that to be with a significant other is something that I really enjoy and I rarely find someone worth taking the risk with, so I tend to go a bit overboard in the beginning...

If the tables were turned and she was that way with me then I'd probably react the same way!

Its the most confusing area of life for sure

Currently single atm, usually **** up relationships myself, by having trust issues, so I don't really bother so just go from woman to woman casually

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,910 ✭✭✭Sisko

Can't stand the whole 'chatting up in a bar' bullshit/ mating ritual thing.

Girl sitting around in a bar looking pretty. Guy must approach and then impress her within a limited time limit by a combination of buying drinks and witty banter/bull**** etc. Girl judges guy by appearance/cloths personality traits and willingness to spend money before deeming them sexual compatible.

Its really not all that different to the stuff that goes on in the wild :p:

Thus I decided I'd rather just get to know someone and see how things go from there, unfortunately that never happens. I blame single sex schools and growing up in an area where all the chicks are 'howaya howaya's'

I could easily go under a few of the options tbh. I'm seperated from my ex, and I have seen other people since we seperated. I don't actually know what I want. Maybe its because I have had a rough time with my ex (and thats still an ugly mess) that I'm afraid to more than like someone. It scares me a bit then I push people away. Stupids I know =/

I'm Single atm because ex couldnt handle things going on in my life and wanted me to put her No.1 in my life ahead of family and career, i wasnt prepared to do that so back on the scene and loving it!:D

I suppose I like the idea of going out with someone but when it comes down to it I just couldn't be arsed putting in so much effort.
I have been called a commitmentphobe but in reality I'm just lazy/indifferent.

Friends seem to think this will change when I meet 'the one' but I couldn't see it, my me time is too important.
But I dont see anything overly wrong with this as long as I'm straight up with people and happy in myself

I'm not relationship material at present. I picked "Too stuck in my ways" but im unemployed and have no real peospects of starting a career in the immediate future. That what I'm working on for now and I couldn't juggle a relationship aswell. Priorities and all. Plus I'll be better relationship material when I get the other one sorted.

    Makes sense, no?
