Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. ruby and saphire remakes

    ruby and saphire remakes

That's not a new game in my mind. I thought it was a follow up to X and Y that I had missed :pac:

Not sure why they are going back to the worst games they ever made instead of following up the best games they made in a long time. Still a lot they could do with Kalos.

The Gen 1 and 2 remakes were needed in order to have (almost) all the Pokémon available in some form. A Gen 3 remake does nothing. An actual new game would have been far better news in my mind.

Well just cause some people didn't like them, doesn't mean they should skip them. A lot of people enjoyed them (myself included), and there's a lot of folks that have never played them either. Skipping them to please some would be silly.

watching the gf try to catch zapados for an hour whie it was fleeing, no luck getting it to settle on the island, i take over, 2 encounters later it's on the island, her not impressed at all.

So she finally catches it and what does she say "now you can sit and rot in my box"

cue her looking up and hushing me. So c-u-n-t the zapados is now banished to pc hell for life

They aren't needed at all. What will they achieve that another game in Kalos won't?

The only reason I can come up with is to make Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza easier to obtain. If that's the problem, include them in the next Kalos game like Mewtwo and the bird trio in X and Y.

Considering how few new Pokémon were added in X and Y, it is incredibly disappointing to see them go backwards.

Fair enough if that's what you think, but I disagree that it's backwards. By that token, FR/LG and HG/SS were backwards, which I also don't think would be true.

FRLGHGSS were needed because it was otherwise impossible to get a decent chunk of the Pokémon. You couldn't trade from RBYGSC forward. Right now, we can trade from RSE all the way to X and Y. It takes a while, but it is completely doable. That wasn't the case when they changed from GBC to GBA. They pretty much had to do them to keep up the idea of catching them all.

It's backwards because it won't introduce any new Pokémon and will only make trading the main Gen 3 legendaries easier. That's literally the only positive that seems to exist. Everything else is wasted time and resources that should be used on moving forward, not backwards. We going to get DPPlt remakes next?

Really it just seems you don't want the games because you didn't like the originals. Heck, I remember seeing on Facebook someone scrabbling for reasons not to have Ruby and Sapphire remakes, including an implausible skipping of it to go straight to a remake of DPP (I think they may have also brought up the idea of a re-remake of Red and Blue, but I'm not sure of that). Considering that they came out when Pokémon was at a low ebb, a lot of people have never played the games. You can't pick them up in most shops bar retro game places or whatever you'd call them, and if you don't want to buy online then this is your chance to play through Hoenn.

It's probable we'll be getting a remake of DPP down the line, but that's likely not until the next gen. Just because they are doing the remakes now though, doesn't necessarily mean they won't do an X/Y sequel after it. (Maybe they won't, I don't know) I know I'd like a sequel of some sorts to X/Y owing to how sparse the post-game of the two was.

Ruby and Sapphire were the reason for the low ebb. They started it. The games were incredibly unpopular and were a disaster compared to the previous games. Yellow alone has sold almost as many as Ruby and Sapphire combined. By the time X and Y are a year old, they will probably have out sold it too. They were not popular games at the time and drove a lot of people away. A lot of people that they never got back. The only people who seem to like them, are those who started with them and didn't know any better.

I don't get why they are wasting time on something that almost killed the name when they could be putting that time and effort into the games that have brought them back to the top. I'm still yet to hear an actual reason why these games are better than a follow up for X and Y.

Nope, I started on Red, and I enjoyed the games. And I wouldn't blame Ruby and Sapphire solely for the low ebb, I know in my school people stopped after Gold and Silver not because of the next game, but in the time in between. The fad just sort of died. I'm not saying RSE didn't lose them some fans, but I really did enjoy them so I don't get why others didn't. It's hard to be objective in either case :pac:

    But I'm right :pac:

Personally, I'm really looking forward to the remakes, Ruby was my first Pokemon game. I remember making Groudon faint because I thought he was a Fire type, and I used Sceptile's Leaf Blade on him. :o

Have never played Ruby/Sapphire but I have played emerald. Of all the games, its the one i dont think id ever play again. I got into the games with diamond as i didnt have the money for a gameboy until I started earning my own. I bought at least one game from each generation but Emerald was a tough slog to get through.

I can't wait to revisit Hoenn. Sapphire was the last game I played several times over. I almost lost interest in the franchise with D/P but have loved B/W and X/Y.

Getting a little antsy for the new game, so I've started doing playthroughs of my old games. Trading my pokes from cart to cart is so time consuming though, especially the gen 4 games where you only choose from the 6 in your party.

Anyway, in the past 2 weeks or so I've done Black, White 2, Diamond, and now starting HeartGold again.

I got Emerald this morning for €15. Only a few weeks ago the best I could find was €40 and I couldn't justify that. Hopefully HGSS follow suite now since they are always way over priced.

Yeah, I only had HG, never picked up SS cause of the price and how soon BW came out after.

I tend to pick up most of the games. I own all 3 of DPP, BW 1 & BW2.

Not being funny, but why? As in, what's the value to you of having two copies of the same game? Genuinely curious/confused.

Why not? It's a series I love, and when I had sod all people who played, I used my two DS's to trade stuff between them to fill up pokédexes. It's not that strange a concept, I know quite a few people now who've done the same.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,964 ✭✭✭✭PopePalpatine

I also used two DSs to trade between my games, and importing Pokemon from Gen IV games to Gen V (D/Pl/Prl/HG/SS to B/W/B2/W2) is a pain in the arse.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,126 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

That crossbow game was fecking awful. Pal park for moving stuff from 3 to 4 was much better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

Bank is the easy winner this far.

As for games, I have red, blue, yellow, gold, silver, crystal, ruby, sapphire, emerald, leaf green, pearl, platinum, black 2, x and y. Still missing diamond, heart gold, soul silver, fire red, black, white and white 2.

Restarted Black 2 not long ago and the lack of a GTS is a pain. I now can't even see everything in the Pokedex by myself, I'll need a friend to help me with the white version exclusives.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,964 ✭✭✭✭PopePalpatine

At least you once had access to B2's GTS. It was too much of a pain in the arse switching my modem over to WEP encryption just to use online services for DS games.

I'm asking here because I'm guessing someone will have done it at some point.

I have a 2DS with a physical version of X and the downloaded version of Y. If I now get a 3DS, will I have to buy Y again, or will it let me copy it over? Also, is X saved on the cartridge or on the console?

Need to know this before I decide I want a 3DS :pac:

The game should be saved to the SD card so I think by putting the card from your 2ds into the 3ds It should just work.

    I'm not 100% sure though.

You can go into data management in system settings and see what's saved to where.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,066 ✭✭✭elekid

I don't think its as simple as putting your SD card in the new console. When I got my 3DS XL I had to do a system transfer from my original 3DS before I could play my download games on it. There are instructions on how to do it somewhere on Nintendos website, its pretty straight forward.

Thanks. Once it is doable, I'm happy. Didn't want to have to buy it again just because I got a new console.

Uggghhhhhhhhhhh found an online version of Pokemon Yellow. Great, says I! Last few evenings I've been working towards those all important Elite 4 and my character's best friend in the whole wide world and today, I got there. Yay! Happy days! Alas, however, these happy days were not to last. In my newly found glory, I go surfing off to find Mewtwo. No problems there, tis a fairly straight forward cave after all. I find Mewtwo and use Dugtrio to make its accuracy just about zero. My lvl72 Pikachu then Paralyzed it but as his weakest attack left Mewtwo's HP more that 3/4s of the way down, I changed to a lvl52 Moltres. All fine and dandy, I was very slowly lowering Mewtwo's HP further, to a more catchable level. I was very nearly there when BOOOM!! Random Critical Hit appears and knocks Mewtwo out. Being clever, I had saved before Mewtwo and thought "not to panic, I can just restart, be grand!"... until I realise the online version doesn't do restarts, the saves don't save. Not only did I knock out Mewtwo, my whole game was reset... :(

P.S never posted here before but since none of my friends like games very much, and those that do don't really play Pokemon, I sought out this thread just to find some people that understand the disappointment...

Random question that i can't find an answer for

What happens if you only have one pokemon, and your opponent has one pokemon, but you have no PP for any power moves and neither does your opponent ?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,126 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

Well if you have no PP at all, then the only move that'll happen is struggle, which does damage to the enemy, and a little bit of recoil damage to the pokemon using it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,672 ✭✭✭TheChrisD

What happens if you only have one pokemon, and your opponent has one pokemon, but you have no PP for any power moves and neither does your opponent ?

Both of you will use Struggle - a 50-power typeless (Normal in Gen 1) physical contact move that deals recoil damage to the user equal to 25% of their total HP (1/2 of the damage dealt before Gen 4).

In essence, if it's a Struggle on Struggle fight, you need to do more damage than the opponent with your attack, but you really need to be able to deal over 25% of their health within 3 attacks, else the faster 'mon will self-KO on the 4th attack.

Anybody here ever done the PWT 10-win streak for World Leaders in Black 2?
Is just a case of having a fully EV'd, type-varied squad with decent items and hoping a streak of luck, or am I missing something fundamental?

Edit: Nevermind, literally just beat it.

Just playing through Soul Silver right now. I find it kind of funny that the rival keeps calling me weak despite losing convincingly every time I meet him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

The rival in GSC was by far and away the best one. He starts out an absolute ass and actually gets character development along the way. I really dislike the best friends route they went almost directly after. Give me someone I can enjoy beating! Not someone I don't care about.

    Hey there,
Not really sure if I'm posting in the right area and what not...but just ya know wondering if anybody knows if those lovely people at Nintendo are going to be super nice and give us the upcoming Gengar and Diancie events or do I need to start spamming relations in England to pick me up codes in Game.
    Cheers for your help!

It was possible for us in Ireland to get the UK event Charizard at GAME by turning your phone into a wifi hotspot with a particular name, so it may work again with those 2 events, we'll just have to wait and see!

Don't think we'll actually get our own one though!

Where would the cheapest place to get a 3DS, HG/SS and X/Y ?

I'm looking into getting one soon, and getting through them games before OR/AS and then maybe selling it all on again before christmas.

Would adverts be the best or is there somewhere online that gives the best prices

If you're looking for something just to play those games and then sell on then yeah picking one up secondhand is probably your best bet. You should be able to get a non XL console for < €100. There's one here for €65 with a dodgy battery so obviously wouldn't be portable but should do the job if you're not fussed about that. HG/SS still tend to command high prices though so expect to pay €40+ for those.

Does 3D add anything to the pokemon games really ? 2DS consoles seem to be a few euro cheaper, but mightn't sell on as easily again.

Really didn't expect HG/SS to be at that price. Can't find anything less than €40, same with X/Y but I expected that

No, it doesn't really add anything to the games and 3D is only available in battle, during evolution, and certain scenes so go for a 2DS if it works out cheaper. The price of HG/SS is ridiculous and I've no idea why it's holding it's value. Then again pokemon games generally do.

Doing a Randomized Yellow Nuzlocke and had an awful time today.

    1. My starter died.

    2. Got Cut and literally nobody can learn it. Due to being Randomized I found a Soda earlier and was able to access Saffron City (and therefor Celadon and Lavender too) but have only the Fighting Dojo left to check. Haven't done it yet because I'm too under levelled for it.

    3. The Mr. Mime trade has been Randomized. He now wants a Kakuna for his Mewtwo! Problem? I can't find a Kakuna or even a Weedle!!!! Metapod everywhere!

Mewtwo for Kakuna? Sounds like a normal day on the GTS :pac:
