Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I can't seem to get google music to cast, the app doesn't even have the "cast" icon.
Is this related to the Irish version of google music or is this working for other peps

Casting Google + photos is really hit and miss lately.
Keeps telling me that the photos must be backed up online first. They are all synced but only work every now and again.
YouTube also giving grief. Very low quality and a lot of buffering.
Used to love this yoke but now it's peeing me off.

Hey there, I bought a Chromecast a few days ago and loving it, its really cool to be able cast and mirror my nexus 7 onto my TV.

So this got me thinking, as I sometime teach night classes and use power point and white boards / flib boards quite a lot.

Is there any way I can cast my nexus 7 screen to my laptop so it can be projected, I believe because of the Analog sunset its not possible to hook up a nexus directly to a VGA output.

could be done device to device without both being connected to a common router.

The All Cast App is suppose to allow this but so far the app has not been updated with this function.

Would be interested to know if this is possible without rooting my device.

I'm about to buy a Chromecast - but would I be better waiting for this new Android TV box announced yesterday?

I am wondering if n9 screen mirroring will adapt its form factor to 16:9 or will be 4:3.

One quick google "chromecast vs nexus player" I'm not yet allowed to post URLs.

I'd say chromecast is cheaper and available now and wait see after while if Android TV is taking off, it's not planned for a release outside of the USA right now.

TV box will have chromecast support already built in. TV box will apps to be installed on it, and controlled with a remote. But the apps have to be developed for it to support the remote. So I don't know if you can just install exitsting RTE Player on the TV Box and have it work without RTE releasing an app to support the box. If I want RTE player on my TV screen I have to cast it from chrome browser to chromecast. So for the moment I see no reason to switch.

Does anyone know if RTE Player plan chromecast support? I waited long enough for RTE player android app

The RTE Player doesn't support Chromecast, the app itself barely works for me lately, it crashed constantly while trying to watch the Ireland Germany game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,301 ✭✭✭✭gerrybbadd

I think thats because it looks like RTE threw about a fiver at some random guy to develop the app.

The TV3 app looks like about €2.99 was spent on it as well.

Its an actual disgrace, that App.

To think so much of our money goes into that rotten borough, and they produce that!!!.

Anyone able to cast with Hola?

No, the chromecast dns settings override services like Hola so unfortunately it won't work.

There are ways of overriding the DNS settings but it depends on your router and setting up static routes

There was a thread last week or so in Android Devices (I think) but I cannot for the life of me find it now

A guy who had a paid for security app and tracked his phone down after it was stolen/lost and sold on.. anyone remember what the app was called?!

Edit: also just realised I posted this in the Chromecast apps instead of general apps.. sorry, haven't woken up yet :pac:

There's now a way to cast Amazon Prime videos to chromecast. It's a 3rd party paid app. I'm going to try it soon, there's a 2 hour window to get your money back. I'm a prime member in Germany, although I have my chromecast set up to work with smartdns too.

Search for Primecast on Play store.

And now the above app has been pulled from the store! See here!

You could play your emulators on your phone and cast the screen to the chromecast.

No problem for me works fine. I find it does take a bit longer to start playing these days.

localcast was auto exiting after a few seconds for me, since a couple of days ago.
i think on the play store page they say to remove & reinsert the cc to fix.

i've just used bubbleupnp instead (with sb) though haven't bothered trying it yet

I may be wrong but I think the developer got his hosting site shut down. It was definitely a casting app if not this one.

I've tried using bubble upnp and that also hasn't work. It must be the material I'm trying to cast. Il have to go back to my mhl adapter.

My Localcast disconnects within seconds too, unplugged Chromecast but it makes no difference

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,819 ✭✭✭BionicRasher

    Working fine for me.
Sometimes I need to turn of and on the Wifi on the phone to allow localcast to see the chromecast but other than that it's all good.
SB speeds seems to have improved for me in recent days

Folks, I have a Chromecast on its way to me next week. Could someone of the good posters here who already have well tested it, tell me if, for instance, I cast a stream from any of the tv players from my nexus onto my tv, will the cast stream be of the same quality on the tv as it is on my Nexus. If its HD comin from the Nexus, will it be HD on the tv?

It will depend on the Movies your casting, if they are MP4 H264 files they will cast fine. If not you will need apps like BubbleUPnP or Plex to transcode the videos in to supported codecs. (need a PC to do that)

On another note anyone with a Nexus 7 (2012) on lollipop can you now screencast(/mirror) your device without using the mirror-enable app?

If i use the chromecast app to mirror it works but if I use the option in notifications drop down my nexus freezes!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,907 ✭✭✭✭Kristopherus

Thanks for that, Corkie. I have'nt got Lollipop on my 2012 Nexus yet. Not too keen to try any of the leaked stuff.

The official links are available now. I suggest not upgrading the Nexus 7 (2012) to Lollipop at present anyway. Maybe wait until there is another lollipop update that fixes the bugs in it. Also it gives a chance for apps to be updated for it.

The screen mirroring on it keeps losing connection with the chromecast.

Does anyone know if Now TV is geo restricted, apart from the app not on the Irish store, in terms of not allowing use of an Irish credit card, or blocking usage via Chromecast via an Irish based router ala US Netflix?

I don't know, but I signed up today and it gave me a ROI option from the dropdown list of countries. I entered my Irish address and cc details and got no signal about non-acceptance. When I got to the final page where I had to enter 2 pin numbers, I got no option to do so. If I hit "Continue" I got thrown back to that page.

I'm not going to bother with it if I can't use Chromecast, maybe someone will be along in a while to advise. I know there's someone using it with Roku I think, don't know if they changed their DNS etc on their router in order to do so.

This thread is probably the best place to find an answer to your question.
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057001096&page=122

I THINK the content on the apps is geolocked and you have to change your router.
If you buy a NowTv box sky isn't geolocked but the extra apps on it like bbc iplayer are.
