Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Kicking off this Thursday, the Woman's World Cup finds home this year in France. With the complex draw system at play, Ireland has a great chance for a semi final berth after last years Grand Slam and some strong team performances this season from a small pool of amateur players.

The competition consists of three pools of 4 teams who play each other once. From here, teams are seeded according to their positions after the group stages with the three group winners and the best ranked second place team making the semi finals with the other teams playing off for overall ranking. All teams will play 5 games with the final scheduled for Sunday 17th August.

Ireland have been pooled with defending champions New Zealand, USA and Kazakstan so the chances of a semi final berth are good. First game is against the US on Friday at 4PM BST; I'll preview the games on the day if I get a chance.

TV wise, TG4 will show Ireland's 3 pool games live as well as both semi finals and the final; Sky Sports are also showing games live while www.IRB.com will provide streaming of selected games.

The competition structure is the exact same as the under 20s world cup. 3 groups of 4 then ranking games to decide the final rankings of 1-12. Every team plays the same amount of games

Neither Sky or TG4 will be streaming the games. All games will be streamed live on www.irb.com so you can grab them there.

NZ vs Kazakhstan streaming on the IRB site seems to be broken.
    "This content is currently unavailable".

Here's the full tournament schedule. All kick-off times are Irish time.

Jeepers pool C looks tough if the men's rugby is anything to go by

I think Ireland is geo-blocked from the IRB's live streaming.

Info about the geo-blocks here http://www.rwcwomens.com/wrwcontv.html and here http://www.irb.com/mm/document/tournament/home/02/07/23/38/wrwc14broadcastandstreamingschedule.pdf

Let us know if anyone finds a work-around.

    New Zealand 38 - 0 Kazakhstan (Half-Time)

They'll be showing all three of our group matches, plus the semi-finals and the final.

Hopefully that means 5 Ireland matches.

Are they allowed to squeeze the ball back through the legs when a ruck is formed, I thought that wasn't allowed. The Aussies used that method twice in the first few rucks.

Just done it again there. Strange.. hadn't seen that in a while, due to the danger of damage to the neck.

TG4 surely will. Also Sky are streaming Australia v South Africa on Sky Go right now.

The streaming on www.irb.com is working for me too so not geo blocked here at least.

Are you talking about "squeeze ball"? Its not allowed at underage or junior level but it is allowed at senior level.

    Why is that? Injury concerns?

Pretty much, the base of your skull and back of your neck are exposed to knees and feet. Also if the ruck is poorly set up the weight of all the players above you is on your head.

Squeeze all is allowed at all adult grades and at under 20/21 grade.

By putting ball between your legs like that you leave your neck and top of your back as well as your head exposed and potential of serious injury is much higher

    USA 7 - 3 Ireland after 7 minutes.

They've been taking water breaks half way through each half in the other matches.

    'Mon Ireland!

I met the American tighthead / captain at a wedding in Mayo last year. A lady with which one would not mess!

ANy link? Having trouble finding it

If you're in Ireland you can watch it on TV on TG4 but not on tg4.ie.

If you want to watch it online you can try http://www.irb.com/live/video.html but it's not working for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 811 ✭✭✭dave13

It's available on TG4 player. Just need to click "BEO" in the top left on it in the schedule that appears on left hand side and then click on the video above that.
Not the easiest to find, but its currently working fine on my ipad

It's not working for me on Windows. It says it's not available in my region.

    Try for Ireland!!

Another converted try there just before half-time.
Half-way to the bonus point, which will be really important to reach the semi's as the best runner-up if NZ win the group.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,318 ✭✭✭Absoluvely

Oooh. That link works for me as well. Nice one.

    20 - 10 half-time.

Some pretty poor reffing going on here!!

23-17 to Ireland with 67 mins gone.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

    Reffing is appalling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,871 ✭✭✭budhabob

Reffing has been poor, some poor passing from us too. This should see it out now though.

Irish lock has glue on her hands. Some wonderful takes in the set piece.

    Good start.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,221 ✭✭✭crisco10

Decent win. our tactics were fairly basic, strong pick'n'drive, maul and a shotgun boot.

I genuinely laughed when American 11 fly hacked the ball into her teammate 5 yards in front, and the ref didn't even give accidental offside.
It was made more obvious by the offside player catching the ball.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,967 ✭✭✭✭The Lost Sheep

Ok win. Very unlikely to make semi finals now without having got a bonus point but you never know and even if we don't make semi finals the women can still get a best ever finish for Ireland in world cup

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,822 ✭✭✭Morf

After Ireland's 2nd pen the US restarted with 15 just kicking the ball in the air and Ireland knocked on.

Ball didn't get within a foot of the ground. A drop it was not. Ref staring right at her kicking it too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,967 ✭✭✭✭The Lost Sheep

    Team named for NZ game
1 change to team that started US game
Paula Fitzpatrick replaces Siobhan Fleming at blindside

Penaltly try every day of the week there. Assistant bottled it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,967 ✭✭✭✭The Lost Sheep

Great start by Ireland. Could do with getting a score as they've been putting NZ under serious pressure and need to get something from that pressure

NZ definitely getting the luck but the Irish women have been going great!

Hopefully they can keep the head up after that one blip. They've been playing brilliantly so far

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,143 ✭✭✭DellyBelly

That's the difference between the 2 teams. NZ get a sniff of a chance they take it. Ireland just don't have the killer instinct

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,386 ✭✭✭✭DDC1990

    8-0 down.

2 attacks 2 scores for NZ.

EDIT: TG4 not one bit happy with the referee and i'd agree.

    Schmidt in the crowd there

"Eh next time can you bring a small bottle, those ones have Gatorade".

Just referee the match and worry about Gatorade afterwards.
