Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

im willing to bet yourselves, pats and shams all want us ;) tis great to be popular!

personally pats away would be my least favoured, reckon it would be the lowest gate for us. not going to be gutted by any draw though, we are gonna be massive underdogs no matter who so doesnt really matter

Handy yes, chances of getting a positive result, no. If we do draw Derry, I'd like it to be at home.

Anyway, the fact is we're huge underdogs so we can go and enjoy the day and whatever happens, happens. It's just great to be in cup semi and it'll help ease the financial burden.

2 buses running (so far) to the semi. One from the north via lifford the other by the south of the county via Donegal town & ballyshannon. 54crew admins on facebook will help ya out or pm me and Il put you in touch with the relevant people.

Club has announced tickets on sale in the ground on Friday v shels. Allocation is thought to be small... Not that pats will get anywhere near selling out the rest of the ground

Probably the worst draw financially for us but there should be a good crowd and I'm looking forward to the day out.

    Tough draw for Derry.

Would be great for the North-West if both of us did get to the final. Would be a great day out!

Really looking forward to the game. Nice to get a bit of exposure and increase the club's profile again. The Shels game shows we can play good football, but also that we we can gift goals to opposition teams.

yea they were two poor goals to give away. going to need to tighten up again at the back. Been the one good aspect to our game all season so hopefully it wont let us down now!

10 seats remaining on the north donegal bus
4 on the south dongegal bus. think its going to be left at 3!

How sweet would an all-NW final be !!

Obviously Sunday didn't go to plan on the pitch. We didn't have the defensive solidity we had for most of the year and St Pats had the quality to exploit that ruthlessly.

On the other hand it was great to be back in the big time, with a big noisy and colourful travelling support and lots of old faces back in blue and enjoying themselves despite the result.

Thought id restore this with the season so close!
Bus to the first game away to Shels in 2 weeks, running Letterkenny 2, Finn Park 2.30, Lifford 2.45... usual sources (neish or nigel) or pm me if ya dont know em!

Late in the day but Last Man Standing competition... the last one only took 6 weeks to end! deadline is kickoff tomorrow though

Have yet to concede in preseason, which isnt bad considering it includes a 1-0 win v cork, 3-0 v colraine (altho supposedly a poor team), 0-0 v galway, cockhill & Inishowen league either side of those games.
Sligo Rovers in the showgrounds tomorrow.

Squad has come together nicely, been improved where needed and players kept where we were solid. Ciaran Gallagher back will give us a solid goalkeeper behind our good defence. still amazing to think we had the second best defensive record in the league going into the last round of games considering who was in goals.

French man Tagbo who scored v cork and another game is having issues getting clearance from Bulgaria where he last played. havnt seen him but he sounds promising. With the likes of Foy, McNamee, Donelan, a hopefully fit McGroary, Keating Back and a few others we may have a decent attack this year to go with our
    defense...

    Goalkeepers:
    Ciaran Gallagher
    James Gallagher
    Lee McCarron (u-19)

    Defenders:
    Keith Cowan,
    Thomas McMonagle
    Damien McNulty
    Ciaran Coll
    Matthew Crossan
    Packie Mailey
    Rory Gartlan

    Midfielders:

    Michael Funston
    Tony McNamee
    Gareth Harkin
    Brian McGroary
    Raymond Foy
    James McCahill (u19)
    Jordan Toland
    Josh Mailey
    Darragh Black (u19)
    Ger O'Callaghan
    Oisin Hassett (u19)
    Adam Clarke
    Regan Donnelan (Loan from Sligo)

    Attackers:

    Kevin McHugh
    Marc Brolly
    Garbhan Friel
    Ruairi Keating (loan from Sligo)
    Nathan Boyle (loan from Derry)
    Wilfried Tagbo (pending international clearance)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,224 ✭✭✭overshoot

Well Sligo didn't go well... Couldn't make it but (Sligo) dad was at it. Said we gave a good account first half and when we started to tire Sligo took advantage big time.
Thought tagbo did a good job which is good to hear... Wasn't to sure who was who with us after that!

Carnage in the last man standing comp too... 15 left out of 86 after week 1!!!!

poor game, we were asking for Cobh to equalise but got away with it. So can still enjoy being second only by goal difference! massive step up needed away to UCD next week and Athlone in Finn Park the week after could be massive. Mailey was by far MOM but good effort from Tagbo too, Friel probably should have had 2.

Video of Tagbo's aerobatic opener - sometimes you just cant argue with route 1

McHugh picking up No 2 here

Picture of tagbos opener via Gary Foy... ok muffler how do u resize on boards.... preferably without photoshop?!

I remember seeing McHugh high up on the list of LoI all time scorers.

Any chance he could move up a place this season? Its his last, isn't it?

Just found an out-of-date list, I know he has scored since this and is a few places higher

    All-Time (until end of 2012)

    1. Brendan Bradley 235
    2. Jason Byrne 193 *
    3. Pat Morley 182
    4. Turlough O'Connor 178
    5. Donal Leahy 162
    6. Glen Crowe 159
    7. Stephen Geoghegan 158
    8. Johnny Matthews 156
    9. Kevin McHugh 154

get that from rsssf Niman? handy site
He is 5th, 8 in 2013 and 2 last year according to extratime which sounds about right believe it or not. He looks far better right now fitness wise, than... well i cant remember. 1 this season has him up to 165. i would imagine 4th is beyond him but i would have no problem being proved wrong!!!

Always liked him as a player, should have got a bucketful for us and been much further up that list, had he been played as an out-and-out centre forward of course!

There's lots of free software available for editing various images. What I use myself is Paint.NET which can be downloaded and installed from here.

Like lots of software just watch out when you are installing that you dont install different "add ons" like toolbars and search engines etc. Always choose "custom" installation and then untick the various boxes or decline offers of "add ons"

When you have Paint.NET installed just select the image you want to resize, right click on it and select "open with Paint.NET". Once its opened you then click on the "image" tab at the top and from the drop down menu select "resize". This will open a different window that gives you options to resize.

I always choose the option to "resize by percentage" and then keep reducing it until you get it to an approx size of 600 - 650 pixels wide by 400 - 450 pixels high. Then click OK and then "save" on the main display. After that its just a case of uploading in whatever way you normally do :)

There's a Test forum if you want to mess around or just to get the feel of it.

Yea he is being played in a deeper position for us now too. He seems to be really enjoying himself tho, little flicks and that. Skillwise hes still ahead of anyone else on the team. He had a few years with linfield too after ye which would have put another dent in his total. They were pretty injury plagued years tho.

Cheers muffler, I actually have photoshop. I though boards might have had a display as x size function or something that i was missing. Would save uploading it and linking. Will stop being lazy and making u do the work so!!

Tagbo's proper poachers finish for our first goal last night link
McHughs strike against UCD last night, link
Lovely finish, looks fitter than he has done for 2 years and already has as many goals as last season (says it all about our year)

first goals conceded but top of the league biggrin.png

Massive game next week home to Athlone who are second. a win and we could start to dream!

soo... after the first round of games, a quarter of the season, and going away to 3 of our 4 promotion rivals....

top of the league, by 5 pts with 6 clean sheets in 7 games...
table looks great! Home to Shels on Friday.... wonder could we break the 1000 attendance!

What sort of football you playing?

Read on the LoI thread here that some opposition fan said something like "wouldn't want to watch that type of football all season".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,224 ✭✭✭overshoot

grand stuff, only been to homes games and galway away but tried to get the ball down and play when the opportunity allowed. (pitch was very heavy for the first 2 homes games). I was pleasantly surprised at the open play against a premier side down in galway.

think he was more referring to the lads getting overly stuck in, bit more like last season. sounded like Funston (whoever was in no7) put in a very poor tackle and could have been off near the start. tagbo was stupid a youths fan summary of foot.ie said
The excellent Tagbo tried to impede him and both players ended up eyeball to eyeball. Tagbo moved his head forward enough to make contact and although Lee didn't go down, the ref flashed a red to bring Harps down to ten.
hes still a bit raw & over enthusiastic but chases every ball, serious work horse. I can only really put a poor late tackle in galway against him but we were in the dying mins and chasing a third to equalise. He injured 2 against shels jumping for headers but not heard of anything malicious in them and didnt get a card either.

to be honest, Athlone did it in Finn Park last week, away teams are always going to get stuck in against their promotion rivals. We are still carrying last years deserved reputation too. Higher quality refs who could have a word and stamp it out early in a match would go a long way... but its LOI, unbiased is all we can hope for!

Sums up last year to this...
PP odds before the season started
    Shelbourne 7/4
    Athlone 10/3
    Wexford 10/3
    UCD 10/3
    Waterford 20/1
    Cobh Ramblers 25/1
    Finn Harps 25/1
    Cabinteely FC 40/1

    PP odds after 7 games
    Wexford 11/4
    Harps 3/1
    Athlone 7/2
    UCD 4/1
    Shels 9/2
    Waterford 50/1
    Cobh 50/1
    Cabinteely 100/1

Damn the my rule of never betting on my own team :/

If we could keep up this pace (near impossible but lets dream) we would finish 8pts ahead of last years champions total and 16pts ahead of second

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,224 ✭✭✭overshoot

another big game tomorrow. Victory would put a huge 12pts between ourselves and Shels. With Wexford and Athlone playing Cabinteely and Waterford respectively, 3 pts to hold the gap to our closest rivals would be great... before the season id have taken a draw... ha!

nice poster by DIAGA design for the game

Bucket collection tonight for former player (however brief)and Derry City's top scorer Mark Farren, who is battling an aggressive tumor. previous operations have already had an affect on his mobility and speech.

our good club captain, Kev McHugh has helped launch a website for it
    http://www.markfarren.com/teamfarren/

and there will be a friendly in the Brandywell on Saturday the 23rd, a Mark Farren XI managed by Martin o'Neill and NI international select XI managed by Michael O'Neill.
Paddy Mc Court, James Mc Clean, Shane Duffy, Stephen Mc Laughlin and Ireland goalkeeper David Forde have so far agreed to take part.

    https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=415241961990620

made much harder work of it than we should have but 3pts, still top and extended our advantage to 3rd & 4th to 9pts

around 2000 raised for Mark Farren too i believe which is good to see

Table looks well lads! Home to UCD on Friday night and Wexford play Athlone. We could be miles ahead or back tight as anything at the end of the week.
But we are already in our joint best start ever, 11 undefeated. one more will be a new record for us.

    Team Name.....P....W....D....L.....F....A.....Pts
    Finn Harps......11....8....3....0....18....7.....27
    Wexford Yth...11....7....0....4....24....12....21
    UCD..............11....5....3....3....19.....9....18
    Athlone Tn.....11....4....3....4....16....12....15
    Shelbourne.....11....4....2....5....11....15....14
    Cobh Ramblers.11....3....2....6.....8....19....11
    Waterford U....11....2....3....6....12....20.....9
    Cabinteely......11....2....2....7.....6....20......8

Harps goals v Cobh (all worth a look):
Mickey Funston from 35 yards - admittedly keeper should have done better: https://www.facebook.com/finnharps.underage/videos/360325777511739/

Cobh went 2-1 just after HT but some sustained and fantastic pressure eventually ended in Josh Mailey finishing off a nice team move: https://www.facebook.com/finnharps.underage/videos/360348734176110/

Bit end to end after that and Ray Foy drilled it into the bottom corner from the edge of the box: https://www.facebook.com/finnharps.underage/videos/360375097506807/

Scored 6 in our last 2 games now and again... UCD Friday night for a potential record breaker. Enjoy it while it lasts!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,224 ✭✭✭overshoot

change to go 9 clear tonight (if youths lose to 4th placed athlone) and a record 12 unbeaten from the start of a season, currently tied on 11 with 2 other years.

so when your finished voting... Finn Park is looking like a carpet as probably our biggest threat comes to town!

    match poster is also class

Pitch looking well, much better than the rubbish at the Brandywell.
Which is a shame as that always used to be one of the best pitches around.
Pitch just a symptom of the decline of the club itself.
