Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Was bored tonight and decided to give Persona 4 a go as it's in my backlog a long while. Got up to the point where I unlocked Yosuke's persona searching for information about Saki.
Really enjoying it but worried I ain't understanding the battle system yet.
Only had 2 battles. I kinda enjoy the downtime between them tho. :o

Battle system is pretty easy. You can target an enemies weak point to knock it down and get a follow up attack for free. Knock all the enemies down and you get to do an all out attack for free which does a lot of damage. (One tip is you can change the battle system so you directly control all the characters and not just the Main Character, most people prefer the game this way and it makes boss battles easier).

There's a few other small things to remember but they only really apply mostly to boss fights. First Shin Megami Tensei games aren't like Final Fantasy which are beyond simple. Status buffs and debuffs are hugely important and stacking them can give you a massive advantage is tough boss fights. Also you can protect your own elemental weakness by guarding, you'll still take damage but you won't give the enemy an extra turn which is going to come in handy for the next boss fight which is a a bit of a baptism of fire.

Other than that always be fusing new Persona's. It's not like pokemon where you hang on to pokemon for the entire game. Fuse them all for higher level Persona, a few extra levels makes a massive difference in this game. Also focus on social links when you aren't fighting. Social links give massive xp boosts when fusing and it can mean getting a persona that is a good few levels over your max level which can make a massive difference.

Other than that the rest of the strategy is just resource and mp management in the dungeons.

What do people think are the best and worst PS Vita Free (instant collection) games from the last 12-18 months?

It just seems like each month I'm downloading tonnes of (what looks like) rubbish and I'm NEVER going to get around to giving them all a fair attempt?

If a game is usually critically well received, or I've heard about it, I'll download it on PS3 or PS4 if allowed (Hotline Miami, Binding of Isaac etc).

Having recently given Skulls of the Shogun a punt, I'm concerned these's some other hidden gems I've not heard about.

Maybe there are some games that a totally horrible and I can safely delete them? I'd like to know

Seriously, some of them look VERY average, just cannot dedicate time to trying them so would love to hear your feedback.

Masamume Rebirth was pretty good if you haven't tried it yet?

Ok just finished Ys: Memories of Celceta. Great game. It was pretty easy on Hard difficulty though.

What RPG now? I've played Persona 4 before.

Any of the Atelier games, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, Freedom Wars, Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines, Tales of Hearts R, Akiba's Trip or Demon Gaze.

If you liked the visual novel element of Persona, then Steins;Gate, Danganronpa or Virtue's Last Reward.

I'd echo what Xenji said, the Atelier games are awesome, and freedom wars is a lot of fun. The two Trails in the Sky games are pretty much the pinnacle of the traditional JRPG formula. I'd also like to highly, highly recommend Tactics Ogre or Final Fantasy Tactics. I'd go for Tactics Ogre first, it's by far and away the best SRPG ever made with one hell of a story.

I'd stay away from FFX, replayed it recently, time has not been kind to it. It's a bit of a slog and you can do far better considering the PS Vita and PSP library.

I'd recommend downloading Hotline Miami and giving it a go on the Vita if you're up for it. The Vita version, IMO, is definitely the best version of that game across any platform. In terms of playability and controls, it stands out.

What are peoples experiences with Play Asia like? I've been thinking about getting the L2 R2 grip in the link below and was wondering how long should I expect delivery to take and if there is much risk of it being seized by customs?

Have you ordered stuff from them in the past? This grip looks like it will improve PS4 remote play big time

Yep, ordered a controller. No issues at all and no customs charges either.

Grip is definitely supposed to help but I haven't gotten one yet. A few other regulars here have though

Duty isn't chargeable up to €150 value, VAT can be charged on items €22 and up.
I couldn't see them doing you for the sake of a couple of euros.

Use play asia all the time. Very reliable company only had one problem where a shipment didn't arrive and they posted out a replacement when I contacted them no hassle. Only downer is that delivery from Hong Kong is very slow, you can be waiting 3 weeks for stuff to arrive, just wait, it will come eventually.

I've been caught for customs from them before but it's a rare occurence and worth the risk for the savings made.

Ys: Memories of Celceta is down to €12 on the store. As someone who's never played any if them, is it worth picking up?

It is a solid game and it does not take that long to finish compared to some other JRGPs, well worth it for that price.

Thanks Xenji, in the end I've decided to leave it. I've realised I've a load if games on my vita including FFIX and Suikoden 1 & 2 so really I should get around to them.

So I'm going to restart Final fantasy. I had a save on disc 3 which I lost and my other save is 9 hours in on disc 2 but since I reckon I'd be lost, I'm just going to restart it completely.

I've been thinking about getting a vita for a while now, have a load of vita games on my psn account thanks to ps+. Any idea where would be the best place to get one? I've had looking around online and they seem fairly scarce, at least for any good deals or bundles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,460 ✭✭✭RedXIV

The Vita is getting shockingly bad support to be honest. At this point, if Gamestop don't have it, i'd say you'll have to order on some of the bigger sites. It's not really stocked enough anymore for competitive advantages to appear

Check around the various Amazons, they have been doing the best deals, last Christmas Amazon.es were selling them for E169.00.

You will need to d/l the mega pack on the french PSN - new account required.

To have two IDs on the Vita, you have to do a reset each time you want to change IDs.
Only one allowed on the Vita.

Not a problem playing the games, just a PITA.

Download. All the games are digital so have to be downloaded from the PS Store.

    Thanks a bunch much appreciated

So there shouldn't be a problem downloading them on the French bought vita if I never had an account ? Tks

  • Registered Users Posts: 508 ✭✭✭Issac

There'ok be no problem but I think you'll need a French account (which is easily set up). Personally I'd find it easier just to set up an Irish account from the start instead of messing about with multiple accounts. If you did buy another game on the Irish ps store you'd need an Irish account but, as previously stated, you can only have one active account on a vita at a time.

Is there an option for a physical copy of the games?

Not sure what bundle my brother has gone for as well but cheers for the heads up.
I never spotted this as I just bought the console, not a bundle so no games :)

Here's the thing. And a lot cheaper than Anywhere I've seen online

    https://www.amazon.fr/gp/aw/d/B0146U4EXI/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1449306280&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=ps+vita&dpPl=1&dpID=61UemmtAoHL&ref=plSrch

Please tell Santa it's gonna be ok:confused::confused: otherwise I'll cancel it which I don't want to do as its so hard to find

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,830 ✭✭✭✭Taltos

    Great price...
And even if you don't get a FR account to download the games it's a great price just for the console...

    Good find.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,404 ✭✭✭✭vicwatson

Wha??:eek: I have to download the games or there be big sh1t in little China !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,830 ✭✭✭✭Taltos

Not sure - depends on the bundle??
I bought just the console - so not sure.
The Vita TV I bought though came with vouchers, you had to go to the PS Store and redeem them to download...

If they already have a PS+ account from a PS3 or PS4, then each month with the freebies there are vita games there - make sure any that are free have been "bought" so they'll be available.

OK yup - from Amazon fr's page - using chrome translate

Download code for the following games
    LEGO Movie
    LEGO Batman 3
    LEGO The Hobbit

Thought that was what you asked above whether they'd work on an Irish Vita..

Most games are now downloaded for this console - but be prepared on Christmas day the Sony Store is likely to take a hammering from all the new vitas & PS4s, or like last year it was knocked out all together by a group of wasters spamming the site to make a point...

Thanks maybe I'll download them in advance.

No we don't have any other Sony account in the house. I was wondering if I bought the ps Lego mega pack from France I assume I'll be able to download the games and that I won't have to have a French IP address or be in France??? Sorry for sounding thicker than normal !!!

No IP or need to be in France

Could do with a bit of help folks. It's coming near the time Santa has to deliver my son's Vita that we got in Smyths earlier in the year. It's a PCH-1003.

We only have a 4gb memory card that came with it. We have three games for him (Jak and Daxter trilogy, Mod Nation Racers and Lego Harry Potter). The expectation is that these will use most of that.

Where is the best value for a bigger card? Amazon is £65 for a 64gb. About €87. Cex only have 16gbs for €28.

Will I need that much room? A lot of what I expect him to play are the PS Classics like Spyro and Crash Bandicoot.

I do however have all the Plus Vita games since around May to download for him.

Also, can anyone recommend a decent cover, screen protector and handgrip for that model? I'm not bothered if they aren't here by Xmas day. Just want them for him for after.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,460 ✭✭✭RedXIV

Not sure about the cover/screen protector but I found a 16GB card pretty reasonable for my needs with the Vita. the ps1 classics are very small, so you could fit 20 on with that card, but some of the vita games may be a bit bigger (3-4GB) so that may reduce your capacity. I manage my games, on a 16GB card with about 10-15 games on it most of the time. You could go bigger but I find it unnecessarily expensive for the cards. But it's worth noting that downloading a 4GB game is not a problem for me with my internet package.

Anyone here playing Freedom Wars? Want to finish it and move on to something else but the difficulty randomly and significantly increases in the final quarter of the game. :(

At that point of the game you really are meant to be getting help from other players online, you can solo the game to the finish but it will take some serious grinding.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,460 ✭✭✭Orizio

    Eh really?

Bloodborne has thought me using other players online is for casuals though. ;)

I think my weapons are ass but I looked at the weapons guides online and it all seems convoluted and time-consuming. Might keep cracking away on my own for another couple of days and after that get help if I have to.

I had the same problem on a ps4 but oddly enough my son was upstairs on his and it was working away and he was online chatting to his friends on FIFA. Don't know what was wrong. Let's hope it's working today!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,830 ✭✭✭✭Taltos

Not sure if this will work - but try it

    https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-ie/home/games

Sign in as your son (note this is the Irish store....)
Under your sign in name there is a drop down arrow - Select DOWNLOAD LIST
Browse to the game you want to download and hit the dowload button and choose vita if prompted.

Go back to your vita, make sure it's powered on and signed in with the same account.

Hopefully it will start downloading the game for you. Hopefully.
Not sure about that error - guess you could just keep trying, it could be load on the system or another ddos attack possibly like last year???
