Has anyone tried "n square" ? New place on Camden quay specialising in steaks and seafood...they did a great job decorating it and spent a lot of money on it( it was a Chinese food store a few years ago). They have pics up on facebook but no menu...

It only opened on Friday night :P

Looks good, haven't seen the menu yet.

It's good to see that restaurants are opening up, very much used to seeing them close over the last year or two!

    I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
The food was great and maybe they were having an off night or maybe I just expect too much.

Food was very good and the service was very attentive. Posibly slightly over-attentive with wine refills. Some of the staff did seem to be drafted in at the last minute and didn't appear to be experienced waiting staff though. No real complaints from me though, pity they are closing.
I did think some of the courses (we had the tasting menu) were a little unimaginative. Pea and mint soup and the celeriac soup were fairly run of the mill - sea bass and pigeon delicious.

Lunch in the Paul Street area, any suggestions? As much as we love Brackens we'd like a change. Reasonable prices a must along with quick enough service. Thanks :)

Cafebardeli, you'll either love it or hate it. Panfried breast of chicken is excellent. Pasta is ok. Pizzas are really nice. Salads are also good.

Thanks for the rec' Dermighty. Four of us had lunch last week and it was a very marmite experience as you predicted. Two of us loved our salads and side of breads&dips. Lots of fresh veggies and shredded chicken breast. One went for a pasta dish and it was very oily, almost to the point of being slimey. Lastly a pepperoni pizza tasted a bit off, we weren't sure if it was the cheese or the pepperoni but it definitely tasted odd. We were refunded for the pizza so it wasn't a bad experience overall.

I know Bully's in the city closed some time ago for refurb, but it seems to be closed a hell of a long time. Is it now gone for good? I used to like it in there, also didn't think it needed a refurb.

Ah that's a pity. I must say I preferred the one in town to the one in Douglas. Although a few months before they closed they did change their menu which I thought wasn't a great idea - as I thought it changed for the worst

I have never worked in a restaurant and I don't know any restaurant owners but I'd say owning and running one is hard!

So many subtle changes can **** a place up for the customers, I used to frequently (twice a week) have dinner in a restaurant in town, and I always ordered the same dishes every time and at one stage they changed the ingredients to lower quality stuff and I stopped going there, it was horrible.

Wagamama did the same, I went in one day and got a dish of greasy dark meat instead of the usual breast meat chicken I got there before. Dark meat is grand, but I don't like it and paying 16 euro for a plate of drumstick scrapings isn't really my idea of dining out.

That being said some of them just don't get it. It's hard to look at it from a customers perspective when you're talking about your own place, I don't mind paying a premium if the quality is good, many places change either the price or the quality and usually the quality to be honest.

I'm sick of CafeBarDeli. Anywhere else that has good food for cheap?

Ketchup Grill is lovely - on Paul Street where Bullys used to be. They have really nice burgers and chips for under a tenner, they have other stuff as well - worth a try:)

Penny Dinners might be worth a shot.

Try Casa Roma - it's been getting some good reviews on here and on tripadvisor lately:D:D

Or on a more serious note, The Bierhalle, Popes Quay is very good value.

Cavanaghs bar does whopping great sandwiches at lunch time.
Also there's a restaurant called the dining room in the Paul St shopping centre that offers great value. I've only ever had breakfast there, but what afeed! A huge full irish with free coffee refills all for only €6.50. I believe they also do a substantial lunch menu for around a tenner. Unfortunately they don't do evening meals.
Finally, if you cross the footbridge at the bottom of the coal quay to the northside, go up the narrow steps all the way to the top, there's a fine restaurant just beside the firkin crane. Can't remember the name but the fare is good. Also try SOHO bar on the grand parade for evening meals. Good daycent grub that won't break the bank!

Am going for a short break to Cork City from Monday to Wednesday next week.

Just wondering, can you tell me about a decent restaurant in the City Centre?

Decent in terms of not too overcrowded, not too expensive and good portions.

    Thanks :)

NOOOOOOOO!!!! Hell NO! NOT Il Padrino!!!! Awful food, worse service.

Strasbourg Goose is nice. But for me, it's gotta be the Market Lane in Oliver Plunkett St. Unbeatable food and great value.

I think Scoozie's is lovely, its always busy but its good value and the food is gorgeous. Luigi Malone's is another great one, and the newly reopened Kethner's just off Paul St. comes to mind too.
