Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I can't believe Ffs do not have a mobile friendly site in this day & age.

I do 90% of my browsing on mobiles and it's a nightmare looking at stats and such on their site this way.

Read that Chelsea's Salah was ordered to return to Egypt for 3 years military service.

Ings I reckon. Will be the main man in Vokes' absence and should be on penos. Had been following him all last season as I had a bet on him being Championship top scorer and he was excellent, pure goalscorer.

Plus I think he's only 6.0m so you get 0.5 to use elsewhere! :)

What about Austin, would you mind rating my team I just posted in the rate my team thread

Will do in a sec, but to answer your question in this thread I rate Austin very highly as a goalscorer since he was at Burnley himself, and I think he's probably going to be on penos also.

So actually I think you're probably right, Austin is the better option, I think it's a toss up on potential points-scoring, but QPR's opening fixtures are better IMO which gives the advantage to Austin. Reason I hadn't been considering him is that I have no idea how many players Harry will bring in so his place in the team is maybe slightly more uncertain than Ings', he should be starting for sure but you just never know with Harry.

Who is your 5th midfielder? I think I'll be picking a 5th midfielder/3rd striker that rotate well with each other:
    Utd city
    liverpool everton
    hull burnley
    arsenal spurs
    stoke swansea
    newcastle sunderland
    palace west ham
    leicester southampton
    Villa west brom
    Chelsea Qpr

I like Arfield @ 5.0 (Burnley) / Jelavic @ 6.0 (Hull). Wickham and Austin both look ok at 6.0 too.

My midfield Mata, Sanchez, Eriksen,de jong and tadic , de jong is my cheapest at 7.0 and a lot of people are oblivious to how good he is the, the same with tadic, the both of them scored a lot of goals in Holland and are more forwards than anything else

Do you rate Tadic above Markovic?

Lads like Alfonso Alves also scored alot of goals in Holland!

It's a fairly weak league from what I know if it so I'm always sceptical of lads coming from there.

I have De Jong in my team as well. I'm wary of southampton players until we see how they perform pre-season and how they start of. You could switch tadic for Sidwell and have enough for Bony, (Swansea rotate with Stoke, and stoke at home are very tough to beat, if sidwell's playing every game 5.5 isn't bad at all).

Yeah that Dutch league is very hit or miss. Wouldn't read much into records there. There's as many flops as successes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 321 ✭✭Gatame

Taking the chance on De Jong for now anyway. Will be easy to ship him out for someone .5 cheaper e.g Johnson (Who I think could be decent value @ 6.5) or one of the stoke boys. He scored in their pre-season game this week and looks like he will be on penalties for the year. I know the dutch league is pretty weak but he did captain Ajax the last two years (4 year win streak in the Eredivise) and Pardew obviously thinks highly of him giving him vice-captaincy right of the bat and with Riviere on his own for now he should be playing fairly far forward. It's still very early but I'm very optimistic for Newcastle this year, especially if they can follow through and sign another couple of players. (To go with Cabella, Rivierre, Janmaat & De Jong)

Hmm, I wonder who will start out of Skrtel, Lovren, and Sakho

Any Villa fans think that Bent might get much game time this year? Will Benteke be fit by the time the league starts?

Bent won't play under Lambert no matter what.

I'm inclined to agree with you, though Lambert did extend some kind of olive branch recently so i'm a little bit tempted by choosing him. However, my head tells me it's not a good idea, even if would be for the position of a mostly unused 3rd striker, better to have one that is guaranteed to play right more than just in the league cup right?

If I hear good things over the coming weeks I might change my mind. They did spend quite a lot on him and he's only got 12 months on his contract, the whole situation seems a bit nuts to me. I'll definitely keep an eye on it.

He couldn't even get his game for Fulham last season though. His best years appear to be light years behind him.

Do people reckon Debuchy will be a regular first team player straight off the bat this season for Arsenal or will he be eased into the squad? Any Arsenal fans want to give some input into this?

I expect Matt Upson (4.0) to start CB for Leicester.

First choice back line should be:
De Laet - Morgan - Upson - Konchesky

Edit: If he doesn't start it will be one of their other 4.0 centerhalves (Wasilewski or Moore) who seemed to split gametime last season.

He'll be straight in. He's to replace Sagna. He has experience of the league so there'd be no reason to ease him in.

Straight in. Our only backup is Jenkinson, who isn't anywhere near Debuchy's quality yet.

He's just trying to get the best deal he can get from the club which any of us would do in his case, but I wouldn't have any hard feelings towards him if things don't work themselves out with a new deal.

It took 4 years and about 900 managers before he finally got a proper chance. Now, that may not be a coincidence, but looking at it from his point of view I could understand.

I'm going to make a bold statement here which may or may not be popular:

I think it would have been better if Alexis Sanchez had been listed as a forward.

There I've said. With the plethora of midfield options and the distinct lack of great options up front it would be easier to fit him into a team. Realistically you could have 3 Arsenal midfielders in Ramsey, Ozil and Sanchez and it wouldn't be totally crazy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,977 ✭✭✭Backstreet Moyes

Negredo is out for months and Aguero is injury prone. Unless they buy a big striker Dzeko should be first choice and City will score for fun.

The same with Giroud at 8.5 with Sanchez signed and Ozil moving into his preferred position he should get a bucket load of chances.

Remy at 7.5 also if he plays centrally for Liverpool which i think he will.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,264 ✭✭✭✭manual_man

imagine a front 3 of Remy, Sturridge and Sterling all interchanging positions with Lallana pulling the strings from behind. that would terrify the life out of defenders with all that movement and pace

It will be harder to predict their line up ,presume lallana, sturidge and sterling and you are left with coutiniho, remy, markovic and maybe another for last position, untill they play a few games sterling and sturridge are thé safest options

I agee. I think as a forward he would be in my team. Currently he's not in my latest draft.

That's looking like what my front 3 will be, don't agree that Remy will play up front tho, he'll be out wide. Still plenty of goals to be scored from there.

Although he is cheaper than lat season (when I avoided him), RVP does take up a lot of the budget!

Anyone managed to get RVP, Sanchez, Hazard and Dzeko (a must have I think) into their team without the rest of it looking like a car crash??

    It can be done....

    De gea
    shaw terry debuchy (wisdom target)
sanchez Hazard de jong sigurdsson (Albrighton)
    rvp dzeko nugent

You could swap siggy out for puncheon or, maybe davis if you wanted to free up cash to upgrade nugent.

If ye guys are saying ye would have sanchez in your team as a striker but not as a midfielder based on the logic that there are too many choices in midfield then ye are all mad.

If sanchez performs to strikers levels as a midfielder he will clean up and should be the first midfielder you put in your team, think about it.

I'm not saying I wouldn't have him in my team as a midfielder it just, for me, makes things a little more unbalanced. There's midfielders I'd like to play but wouldn't be able to when I have Sanchez filling one of those positions.

What's done is done and we all have to adapt to the same situation.

I'm saying as a 10.5 midfielder he's competing for a spot in my team against Hazard and Yaya, proven FF players. Probably can only have 2 of them at most in my team.

If he was a 10.5 forward, he's competing against Rooney and Diego Costa, both whom I have question marks over and am unlikely to have in my team.

    Krul - Mannone

Sanchez - Hazard - Sigurdsson - de Jong - Albrighton

    RVP - Ings - Dzeko
