Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Calculus and co-ordinate geometry are my favourite parts of the course, only questions I'm not terrified about. :)

Regarding the Accounting talk, I don't know how I feel about Interpretation. I think it's a lovely question if you're aiming for a B/C because the ratios are 50ish easy marks (gotta just sit down and learn them, handiest marks ever, bar perhaps Irish leamhthuiscints) but when it comes to the actual interpreting bit the marking scheme seems so specific that I'd say it's very easy to lose marks and I want an A1 so I'm not sure if I'd be happy doing it. I'm gonna do it in the mocks though and see how I get on, and if a question I hate (suspense, I'm looking at you :pac:) comes up in June I'll have little choice!

Yeah I know we had extra Biology class today and when I got back at around 6 all I could bring myself to do was eat! :P
Is an extra class for Biology really that all that necessary? It's just a matter of learning the textbook like.
Banking on them myself. Them and complex numbers and logs are my only hope for passing P1 in the mocks. P2's so much nicer
Differentiation and logs are evil, i love co-ordinate geometry and the circle, the only manageable things on the course :p
I like differentiation. Always seemed very manageable to me. Dislike integration though, not 'cause it's overly hard but 'cause I usually end up making stupid mistakes which leaves me trying to solve it for ages.

Disliked logs when we were doing them but looking back, they too don't seem so awful. The circle can be awkward at times as well, though I usually get there eventually.

I now have 3 new substitute teachers over the space of two weeks. It's so annoying.

Also, my new accounting teacher is from the arse ends of the country, and she told me she can't understand my Dublin accent, yet she can understand the guy who constantly just grunts and mumbles. There's only 8 in our class too so it's a pain in the ass

Seen this in After Hours- http://www.gizoogle.net/.

Basically, it gives you a ghetto translation of websites. Here's its version of the boards thread "CAO - a few important points!!".

Fair enough, parts of it are horrible but things DeMoivre's theorem and polar form come up alot in the samples and they're really doable I think :)

    +1 about the probability btw

It Economics is so stressful to study, so much information.

It doesnt help that I cannot grasp Short/long run and Market structures whatsoever, no matter what I do it just continues to make no sense.

Damn the Leaving Cert to heck

Worst subject for studying IMO is physics ... I can do every question in my book practically, then you look at the exam questions and its a load of ambiguous, complicated bullsh!t. >:(

Hey guys, I know it's late but this is just gonna get on my nerves endlessly if I don't come to some resolution, I stopped working an hour ago and it's still on my mind like. :p

Was doing some S&S practise there tonight anyway, this one completely evades me though?

The first term of an arithmetic sequence is -12 and the last term is 40. If the sum of the series is 196, find the number of terms in the sequence and the common difference.

It's probably ridiculously simple. :p I tried out a few things, but yeah, came up with the wrong answer.

French is the worst to study for me, how do you even study for French??!!

At least for Physics or Maths you have set chapters!

Normally Maths doesn't get finished until the very last few weeks, so don't feel like you're behind!

I know in some private schools where TY is compulsory they're basically finished every course now cause they did a 3 year LC cycle, bit unfair really that they get such a head-start!

I suppose if TY was run properly in normal schools we'd get at least 2 and a half years of a course... Pity.

Bit of a random/stupid question but for the CAO change of mind in July or whenever it is, is it just your order of preference you can change or can you take away some of the courses you have down and replace them with ones you didn't have down previously? Sorry

Bleugh, it has bested me for now, ill try again tomorrow though you've pulled me in!

My inital thinking was letting Tn = 40 and letting Sn = 196 and trying to manipulate them, but I got horribly lost somewhere!

I did that too, tried to make a simultaneous equation out of it but to no avail, got a fraction. :( Ah well, at least I know it's a tough question and not just me being dim :pac:

    What I did was, you know a = -12 so I filled that into Tn = a + (n-1)d and let that = 40. Fiddle that around and you've got d in terms of n. I subbed that value for d into Sn = n/2 (2a + (n-1)d) = 196 and tried to get a value for n, but no luck!

I don't know was that a problem with calculations or did I take totally the wrong approach, ill take another look tomorrow. Yep its a tough one alright!

As a matter of interest, where did you get this?
