Leitrim will be up for it, defending their title and nothing better to get their blood boiling than the sight of Roscommon jersies! A win would set us up nicely for the first league game in Longford.

The 90 year Carrick streak is on the line again, no?

Don't know if any previous FBD games were played in Pairc Sean, group games are invariably in club grounds.

AFAIK Leitrims games were in Cloone and Ballinamore.

No reason Roscommon shouldn't win on Sunday, hopefully won't be the only title we get this season :D

I'm quite new to here so sorry if this question has been asked before. I was just wondering after the crop of minors last year is there much more top quality young players out there at u16 level and the likes. I wouldn't really be up to date with the club game at that level

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 918 ✭✭✭RoscommonTom

I don't know much about the underage blue giant, was a pity about last years minirs very good team and could of won it. Best of luck to the seniors tomorrow

All about Longford. First two league matches against the Larries and Wexford can define our season. Two wins and we should be packing our bags for Division 2 next year.

A few games went out the gate in narrow defeats last year in the absence of the Brigid lads. Hopefully full squads will help kick on to Div 2

How did yas manage to lose that one today lads? I had Roscommon in a five way accumulator and yas were the only team to let me down!!!

Rule number 1 about betting with roscommon, never ever back us when we are odds on for a match, bound to let you down :(

It seems Roscommon lost the run of themselves after that win against Mayo last weekend. Most of the sides in div 3 are better than Leitrim but credit to them they love the FBD.

Have a look at the schools in Roscommon town ,have a look at sport in general in Roscommon. It is played in pubs by fat blokes and tales from Knockrockery .my god,.Roscommon is rated as a town not to visit [for American tourists] I wonder why.Roscommon need another war to win an all Ireland.

Talking rubbish, what are you on a bout, have you not watched any under age football in the last few years. We might not have anything worth seeing for tourists but who cares if it means not having to put up to liatening to yanks around the place,

For a strong Roscommon line up that Leitrim result was a surprise. Rossies unable to get the best out of Senan Kilbride & with Donal Shine injured so often you would have to wonder where the scores needed to win tight games will come from?

In time the Murtaghs and Smiths etc will be good seniors however in the meantime Roscommon will likely have to spend another year in div 3.

Des Newton has taken over St. Judes GAA club in Dublin. They're a decent senior side and have gotten to the championship semi final a couple of times

I am the most proud Roscommon man in Ireland but I am ashamed of the Standard of quality from my county. This regression has started with Roscommon CBS who were very seriously badly run in terms of football over the last 20 yrs.Roscommon is a joke and a laughing stock in terms of any type of sport
,fat kids watching fat fathers drink in pubs with nothing else to do.I love my county but we need another war to progress unless we can get professional. In relation to underage why have they not progessed I know the answer do you.

Roscommon CBS won the B football championship in 2011 and played at a high level in the late '90's losing an B AI final and losing a A AI semi final and have produced plenty of players to the county set up over the last 20 years .

Remember last All Ireland final against Kerry and League final against Cork previous. How many Gaels players are now playing or in panel.Bridgets seem to want Bridgets so Roscommon will suffer because of same.

What has Mick Fahy got to do with the demise of Roscommon Gaels?Plenty of CBS players have played county football the last few years .The Gaels have had 2 purple patches in their history winning 5 finals in 8 years and then winning 5 in 10 years.
2004 since they won a county final not the longest they have gone between wins.

You beat a very weak Mayo side and only scrapped a draw against IT Sligo, who are a lot poorer this year compared to other years. I was at the match in Carrick yesterday and Roscommon were completely played off the field by Leitrim, the scoreline didn't reflect the game, with 2 minutes to go Roscommon were 5 points down, they then got a questionable free and a very sloppy goal. I was amazed at how poorly your big names like Gilbride and Shine and the likes played.

Worrying times head me thinks for Roscommon football.

The Mayo team Roscommon beat was far from weak, they had plenty of their established players.I would agree with your point regarding Sligo IT.

Leitrim were the better team and fully deserved the win but it was good to get a extra game in before the league and there is plenty of work to do .Its all about the league and a win vs Longford next Sunday is the main thing.

I don't think he's Roscommon supporter and the Mayo team that lined out in that game was fairly strong.

    MAYO -- R Hennelly; K Keane, G Cafferkey, C Boyle; B Harrison, S McHale, D Drake; T Parsons, A O'Shea; D O'Connor, A Moran, A Gallagher; K McLoughlin, A Freeman, J Doherty. Subs: K Higgins for O'Connor (39), E Varley for McLoughlin (44), J Gibbons for Parsons (54), C Carolan for Moran (57).

Leitrim have beaten Roscommon for the 3rd FBD game in a row all low scoring games why are you amazed?

Not responding to the rest of the post because it's daft as feck but ITS have one of the best squads in the Sigerson this year.

I have watched the IT play this year and they are fairly poor, they play Jordanstown tomorrow and I cant see them coming away with a win.

No team is going to have a full strength squad this time of year but Mayo had 9 lads who played in the 2013 AI final playing against Roscommon.

I heard that mayo had only started training the week before they played us though abd that theyd a gallon of porter on their team holiday out foreign before that, I think we are back training about 6 Weeks

You haven't been watching very closely if you've came to that conclusion. Jordanstown are one of the Sigerson favourites themselves so it's entirely possible ITS could lose in the first round but they are one of the best college teams right now, with key players in every sector.

Not exactly very weak team like you claimed. Did you expect Mayo to choose their strongest 15 for a FBD tie? and were you also amazed how poor some of Sligo,Galways top county players played against Leitrim this Jan?

Roscommon were focussed on the NFL opener next weekend.

FBD league is a pre season tournament that means nothing

Shane Curran put the boot into John Evans today in a local paper I heard, said the forward lack clear direction in their play.

Called on Evans to bring in a specialist coach from outside the county to help him

Best of luck to Fuerty against Keel (Kerry) tomorrow in the Junior semi final. How or why it has been fixed for Rathkeale I'll never know, might as well play it in Killarney altogether! Anyway, fingers crossed for them, hopefully we'll all be smiling come sunday evening too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,236 ✭✭✭Dr. Kenneth Noisewater

Well done to Fuerty who defeated Keel by 0-10 to 0-9 today in Rathkeale to reach the All Ireland Junior Football final, and also well done to the Roscommon U-21s who beat Meath by 0-13 to 1-3 to win the Hastings Cup.

impressive showing by roscommon in the hastings considering our two best forwards played no part, diarmuid murtagh (on duty with the senior panel) and donie smith (injured)

Roscommon were dire today.we have a grand team until we go beyond no 7.
    Absolutly no forwards or midfield.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,236 ✭✭✭Dr. Kenneth Noisewater

I don't know if that post is serious or not, especially considering the new reg, but I've heard reports that a couple of our main players had poor games. I wouldn't venture that we have nobody from midfield up though, that's a ridiculous statement. Although we beat an understrength Longford side, a win is a win and it was a vital one if we're to have any real chance of promotion.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2 whitnail 1

I am serious just giving my view which is a common one among the realists. Agreed, win is vital.I think as average as we are we will go up as div three is quite poor. We need to blood some younger lads in at midfield and up front.Maybe try Carty there and move Collins into fullback as we are top heavy at the back also need to find someone who can kick frees.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,236 ✭✭✭Dr. Kenneth Noisewater

To be fair, there have been plenty of chances given to the younger lads up front, Murtagh brothers, Compton, Smith etc., if these guys take their chances then I don't see any reason why they won't get their game and I agree they need to be blooded now but a balance has to be found between bringing on younger lads and winning games. Promotion has to be our number one priority.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,556 ✭✭✭✭yabadabado

Roscommon were very poor today but were lucky to come up against a limited longford side. The first half was dire stuff with Ros playing too many behind the ball s,they did improve in the second half. The way Ros were set up first half we basically had no one beyond midfield.

Still good to get a win but big improvements needed for Wexford game
