Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Yeah I got a Dark Souls II steam key for €26.79 from D2P when it was on sale about a month back, BA edition n' all. (it's still only €28) I also just recently got Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines from the Amazon.com sale. It was $5, but €4.99 on steam. I faked my address to somewhere in California and got the game at its American price, which in EURO was €3.62, little bit cheaper than the steam sale.

Is it easier to run than the original Dark Souls does anyone know? I'm using a laptop for gaming and it'll be my only way of playing this for the next year or so.

the min specs for ds2 look quite similar to the min specs for ds1 over on steam

dunno though, dont want to say yes and have you not be able to run it :)

From what I've read, it's toaster-friendly and runs much better than DaS1. You could wait 2 days and then keep an eye on this thread, that's when all the PC players will finally have their hands on it and you'll hear of a any critique on its PC performance for your average joe.

GMG now doing 25% off for those who haven't bought it yet. Really is no reason to buy it on Steam as opposed to here. €12.50 in the difference.

I think that's the best option. If I had the £40 going spare, I'd have no qualms supporting the developer and publisher regardless.

It doesn't have the advanced lighting system that was shown pre release which is a let down alright but from the videos I've seen it does look and run a lot better on the higher resolutions and with AA etc.

All the bells and whistles for me anyway. It wouldn't be a pc game if i don't get to spend 2 hours modding it before actually playing it :P

    So this happened,
Hi, we want to apologize for the cancellation of your preorder. We did not received the quantity we were expecting to received from our supplier. The second stock we received from another supplier was not global version, so we returned those keys back to the supplier. We expecting to receive more global version keys between one to two weeks from now. Since most of you will not be happy with this waiting time we decided to cancel your order.

We have completed your refund and as sorry for this problem we have generated a 10% discount code for you that can be use for any new purchase.

    Code: ********-********-*******

    Best Regards
    D2P Team

    Welp, this is f'ing gay.

Going to try some different regions, I'll report back!

Edit: No increase in speed with different regions, some made the update slower so just went back to the default. Also some people who are in game are reporting constant crashes after the new update after being playing fine on a VPN all day.

Will go back to Diablo 3 until this is ready. :D

Working fine here. Had it pre-loaded. Just started the game to have a look at it without fiddling with the video settings or tweaks. That 60+ FPS is worth the €37 alone

Pre-loaded too but it needed to run some update. In now. Looks nice. :)

So the controls are utter junk and scream bad port already.

I'm told to light a torch from a bonfire. I need to press the toggle button which shows me a button of an XBox controller Y button. And there's no such control labelled like this in the key bindings screen. It's another broken game from lazy incompetent devs, just as DS1 was.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,932 ✭✭✭YouSavedMyLife

Played up to the first bonfire in the first area. Runs smooth and looks nicer than the consoles for sure but it looks so lifeless. Looked down the well in Majula and its bright right the way down, that's not right. Seems washed out. Gonna leave it for tonight and do some tweaking/modding tomorrow.

Looks real nice with Post-processing effects enabled.

Is co-op any good in DS2?

Never played the first DS if that makes a difference.

Yup Co-op is all good, way better than on the 360 IMO. Played for 2 hours now and I've cleared
Forest of Fallen Giants, both bosses,
    and
Heide's Tower of Flame, both bosses
and have 4 flasks at +1. I've played through most of the game on 360 but haven't cleared it yet so I'm used to the starter areas. My character's name is YOLO SWAGGINS if anyone sees me around.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,315 ✭✭✭Big Knox

Haven't done any messing with the graphics as of yet but the game runs amazingly well and is just so much smoother than the PS3 version. Will set it up properly tomorrow.

Done so co-op sessions with a friend and with randoms at
    The Persuer
    and
    The Sentinels
and it was completely lag free and felt better than anything I've done on the PS3 to date.

It's a million times better than the DS1 port, that's for sure!

Wow. This game is really difficult. I can't even get past the loading screen !

My dualshock 4 doesn't work with this. Properly gutted.

Got the DS4 problem fixed. Played for about an hour in total now. Really enjoying it. Dark Souls at 60 FPS is wonderful. Looks far better than original Dark Souls on X360. I've joined a covenant already, but I've no idea what it does.

Oh, another thing. Both my starting weapons are fecked from damage. Seems far harsher than the original. I threw all that pre-order stuff in a box because I don't want to be using it. Can't wait for more later.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,215 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

What's the Dualshock 4 like on the pc? Going to pick up a pad after work today to play this, and was going to get the 360 pad, but there doesn't seem to be anywhere to get the adapter anymore.

As for weapon damage, it is much harsher in DS2. You'll want two weapons...one for trash and one for the boss (at least that's my plan).

The weapons do break much easier alright, some areas you'd only get to the boss fog gate and it's on the verge of breaking

I watched some streams last night of people playing on PC, wasn't all that impressed with the looks of it at all - it looks like ass guys and I'm on record on this forum several times as saying I think graphics is one of the least important attributes to any game (but I was happier with the look of the first open air "town" you get to so maybe it was just the early stages) :) However, it did look interesting... I think I'll get stuck into the first one and see how that grabs me and then consider picking this up at a later date.

It really doesn't. Things Betwixt is a bit meh alright but pretty much everything past that looks fantastic.

I found the lighting was a huge step back from Dark Souls 1. Majula and the Dragon Aerie are the only two areas that I thought looked good in the game but going back to DS1, it's a far nicer looking game in almost every regard. The lighting really lets DS2 down and is a massive step back from DS1. Everything just looks so flat. It pretty much playstation 2 levels of lighting.

Its weird how they book all the bloom light effect off the lava in places like Iron Keep, it doesnt look like the stuff in say Lost Izalith, which was a bit overdone but it gave a cool heat effect.

Game looks real nice with Durante's mod, adds a few more graphical settings. I highly recommend it.

Also anyone know how to remove the mouse cursor. Every time i open any menu's or pick up an item it jumps back into the centre of the screen. Annoying

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,031 ✭✭✭Cravez

Played a few hours so far, my thoughts/opinons:

    Pros
    - Looks a lot more crisp, better textures.
    - Lighting at times looks amazing.
    - Animations are overall better (except the walking one)
    - Combat seems a lot more difficult, I feel like I'm relearning everything again as opposed to going straight in because of having played Dark Souls 1
    - More flexibility in terms of equipment, items etc
    - Overall HUD/Menu's seem more intuitive, if at least a bit of getting used to.
    - Online is a lot more stable
    - No more Games for Windows Live! (see above point)

    Cons
    - Walking animation is awful
    - Replacing the run function to a seperate button instead of the same as running is a lot more awkward.
    - It feels almost too fluid at times, can feel weird when in combat or walking around. Dark Souls 1 felt more responsive.
    - A con regarding the HUD/Menu's is that generally the stats screen seems all over the place. Very hard to pinpoint exactly the info you need.
    - You can slip off an edge very easily but you cant roll off a ladder?
    - Not necessarily a con for me, but I still find that the game isn't new player friendly, despite that developers said that they made it that way. If anything it's more confusing than Dark Souls 1

I'm very mixed about Dark Souls 2 so far, whenever I play it I feel like booting up Dark Souls 1 instead. That said, It took me a while to even warm up to Dark Souls 1 at first, and I'm getting more into Dark Souls 2 the more I'm playing so my feelings towards it in regards some of the cons will change.

I love it. I had said in the past that I didn't know how the Xbox 360 controller could be topped, but this probably does. DS4tool means you can use the trackpad on the controller as a mouse, in my case from the comfort of my couch. I do have one criticism however, in my experience the battery hasn't been as good as the 360 or PS3 controllers from past generations.

Ah cool, might actually buy one of these in that case. Do you use it plugged in or via bluetooth?

That makes the game tougher. Enemies hit harder and have more HP.

the movement is so different, I think I had more success my first time in the undead burg. i'm having my ass handed to me by the games version of hollows

    then I
accidentally attacked some white fat knight who I assumed was a statue. lol, nope.

So I re-purchased the game for €15.94. Still haven't gotten my refund for D2P's forced cancellation of my pre-order.

Honestly, I'm pretty upset with this whole thing. Lighting system removed, not as good as DaS1, and now all this talk that it's just another shoddy port with bad controls and finnicky controller support - not to mentioned 360 controller prompts even when using KB/M... that's just disgraceful. Just disappointment after disappointment these days when it comes to games. :(

But I haven't gone hollow yet. For some reason, I still have some hope yet that the game will be enjoyable and that there'll be patches or fanmade mods that fix things... or maybe I'll get lucky and not have some of the problems people are reporting. I probably still have some hope because it's my favourite modern game series aside from Batman Arkham series.

Downloading the game now on steam - won't be done for about an hour or less.
