Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hope you're feeling better J, have the antibiotics started to work yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

I think so, I'm definitely feeling a bit better than I was a few days ago. Back in work tomorrow, the proof will be in whether I can last beyond 2pm without wanting to crawl under my desk and go asleep.

Sorry to hear you haven't been well. But good to see you're on the mend and hopefully you'll be out running and back to yourself by the weekend :)

Fingers crossed! Antibiotic finishes Wednesday, so hopefully back to some easy running this week.

I must say, this does seem sensible advice. Forcing a run in Dunshaughlin after a long enough lay off and not running to the standards you hope and expect of yourself could be counter productive.

Good point. Dublin Pride is on the same day as Dunshaughlin so my drinking arm will still get a workout :pac:

Might do a 5k in July if I can just as a tester, before having a proper crack at the Dun Laoghaire 10k on the August bank holiday weekend.

Ahh man, you really should use that race to post a PB. You'll be well recovered in 2 weeks, by the looks of yesterday, you were recovered already.

I'm just going to take it easy (relatively) for a few weeks, I've been putting in the work all year, just taking a short time out from hard sessions before I start building towards DCM.

I think you're spot on Mr slow and I really like your disciplined approach. You could run Dunshaughlin and post a PB but why risk burning out and injury.

I like your confidence, you're after sub 3:20 I'm after sub 3:30 so that won't work, I reckon the series half marathon would make for a good contest.

Yes, but you've run a faster marathon than I have :pac:
plus, the times I have targetted in recent races bear little resemblance to the times I have finished in :o

You should have left the negativity on holidays Ray, you've had one bad day which was still a pb. What's the target for Dunshaughlin? sub 43?

    Three bad days!

I might take it easy in Dunshaughlin now I don't have to beat you - the first half at sub-45 pace and see what I can do in the second half.

First half is faster, the rises in the second half may hold you at that pace.

Bright blue Kayanos arrived. They are actually closer to sky blue than anything else, so they will clash delightfully with just about everything I own :D

What about the DCM top from last year, or your Man City jersey :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

Why would I own a Man ****ty jersey? :pac:

Also, they're a different sky blue to the DCM top from last year, much brighter.

Beacuse they are the deserving FA cup champions and the league winners next year :p

Antibiotics done. Loading up on vitamins and such today, will be chancing a run tomorrow.

Cannot believe I've managed to miss 6 ****ing weeks of running since Barcelona. :(

Meant to get out last night for a run but ended up meeting up with a friend who I haven't seen in a couple of months and going for a meal with her, so didn't get out. Headed out this morning for a short run, put my snotrag/wristband over the Garmin so I wouldn't be watching it the whole time.

I got a fright when I saw the data. I wasn't making any particular effort to slow down or speed up. 4.49km/2.79 miles covered, average pace 9.37/mile. Average HR is even further into the stratosphere. 179bpm average/191bpm max, with only the times where I had to wait to cross a road bringing it down a bit. (in case anyone's curious) Resting's back down to 47, so this is crazy...

Glad to see you’re back out running, mind yourself for the next few runs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

Out again this morning, same loop as yesterday. Very sticky weather out today - not particularly warm but humid as fcuk! 4.5km/2.8 miles at 9.35/mile average pace. HR still high (175 average/191 max). Felt pretty good, I can't overstate how nice it is to be getting back out after basically having to take 3 weeks off.

Just hope there's not going to be any more time off the road like this for a very long time...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,687 ✭✭✭tHE vAGGABOND

Good that your back again, but take it easy for a short while - you dont want to rush into longer and faster stuff and get hit with an over use injury :)

Random : Could your garmin HR be inflated with that stupid problem where its very high at the star of a run, until it gets wet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

Judging by how consistently high it stays later on in the run, I don't think so.

You can see the early spike quite clearly there, but it slowly climbs and stays high.

Delighted to see you back out. You must have been so frustrated.

On the plan for this evening - 30 minutes easy, which is exactly what got done in absolutely lashing rain. Summer my arse!

Managed to control the pace a bit more this evening, 4.77km/2.96 miles at 10.08/mile average pace. If it wasn't for the rotten weather there would have been laps of the shopping centre car park to bring it up to 5km :pac:

HR still high (166bpm average/185bpm max), but felt pretty good throughout the run so meh.

Was supposed to run last night, but swapped that run to tonight after a crap night's sleep on Monday night meant that I had no energy at all after work yesterday evening. Got out this evening anyway (with the added bonus of slightly better weather), 40 minutes easy was on the schedule. Ran 6.67km / 4.11 miles in just over 40 minutes, 9.47/mile average pace. Felt a bit tougher than it should have, tbh. This recovery isn't going to be quick...

It's actually Friday, but Saturday is the more suitable beering night. D'mammy wants to do the usual "have a meal as a family" thing tomorrow. Since T-bone steaks (rare of course) are promised, this is a good thing :D

Oh Garmin, you so crazy :pac:

That's a bit more like it. Plan for today was 40 minutes easy, did 6.28km / 3.9 miles @ 9.41/mile average pace this evening - ran from the office because I was meeting up with friends for dinner and booze. Clearly my Garmin does not like the city centre, pace fluctuations were pretty crazy, and it thinks I can at some point hit sub-4 minute mile pace

HR finally dropped slightly compared to the last few runs - 162 average/176 max, I'm interpreting that as a good sign. :)

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
