Concentration camp footage. Aftermaths of natural disasters. There have been many real sad moments on TV.

That one where Tom Hanks got the AIDS. It was fierce sad. I hope he's OK.

I have a message. Lieutenant Colonel... Henry Blake's plane... was shot down over the Sea of Japan. It spun in. There were no survivors.

    Bambi mother's death.
I know it was a movie, but given that they have been showing it on tv since 1948 I think it counts.

This! I still remember it so clearly. I was only a child and it hit me hard as I loved him.

    Omar - the shop scene.

Bubbles - multiple scenes, this character was so vulnerable it was hard to not feel bad for him.

When Dumbo needs cuddles and his mummy is locked up in a wagon but she puts her trunk out between the bars and rocks him. :(

    Nana Royle's death. :( I bawled.

    The Champ

When the Champ dies, for a little kid, Ricky Schroder really stole that scene

The Royle Family. Few real tear jerkers.

Barbara doing nanas hair is heartbreaking. Denise in labour and Jim in the bathroom with her. Then there's the main one.....OH GOD here I go again

Whenever Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel comes on during Reeling in the Years, you just know some poignantly sad historic event is about to be recalled.

    Charlie's death in Lost. Blub!

And while not a sad scene another Lost scene that made me cry, but in a good way, was when Penny and Des got to speak together after so many years apart.

The final episode of Spartacus had be bawling all the way though. So much death!!(including the real-life death of actor playing the main character).

    Does he die in anything?

I blubbed like a baby. Amazing acting. (Must actually google Ricky Schroder and see where he is now.)

Bracce yourself - the Game of Thrones fans are coming...

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    'When she loved me'
That song for the abandoned toys, in that great film 'Toy Story 2'

    For tv only...

    When Buffy Kills Angel?

    Or..

That scene in Fringe when Walter Bishop says goodbye to Peter for the last time.

Republic vs. England, Landsdowne Road, 15th Febuary 1995. I was 16 watching that match, sitting at home in rural Ireland.
The last remnants of childhood innocence left me that day, seeing such anger displayed at a ****ing football match, feeling helpless for the people on the ground, all because of, to me at the time, pointless stuff like politics and religion.

It may seem trivial to others, but thats my answer every time.

    That scene is unbearable. :(
Denise in labour and Jim in the bathroom with her.
At least there was comic relief with "Are you sure your waters broke and that it wasn't just a bloody great big piss?" :o

Comedies with sad scenes are the most poignant IMO as it's uncharacteristic. Therefore obviously my choices are:
    - Fry's dog (as per opening post - sob!)
    - Homer's mother leaving him and him sitting on the bonnet of the car staring at the stars (I think it's the only time The Simpsons has ever brought a tear of sadness to my eye)
    - Blackadder Goes Forth - over the top

The Simpsons and Blackadder episodes in question are two of the funniest ever, so double whammy.
