Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    This morning :

    4 miles in 31.02. Avg pace 7.44.

Struggled to keep the pace at times. more of a lazy mind than body I think. it'll take time to get bacj more consistent with thr running no doubt.

Think ill have to buy some sort of batman belt today to carry water. Long run tomorrow and its getting hot n sweaty these days.

Note to self-stop taking early weekdays off from running. A lot easier to rack up miles when the majority are done earlier in the week.

    This morning :

    12 miles in 1.46. Avg pace 8.52.

So I bought a bat belt which holds a bottle of water. ten strides into my run I realized its a piece of crap that jumps all over the place so I lobbed it back into my garden.

Only had a banana before the run and no water during it. im in two minds on this. Obviously I should have had some water as it was a hot day. But running on empty stomach cuts out all my stomach issues and is training my body to be more efficient. ..I think?!

Maybe a camelbak thingy is the way forward for the water problem. definitely need something.

Overall im pleased with the run. Longest in years and ok pace. Tired now though!!

    Today:

    4 miles in 32.46. Average pace 08.10.

Felt tired this morning but that's to be expected. Very humid out there today.

    Tonight:

    4 miles in 33.02. 8.16 pace.

    Hamstrings horribly tight from Monday.

Ridiculously hot out there. Not easy to run in!!

    This morning :

    6 miles in 47.48. 7.57 pace.

    Still quite hamstrung! !

Flipping hot again. Lost about a stone in sweat. Long run in this heat wouldn't be fun. Gorgeous weather to be out and about though.

Loving the Second Captains podcast on runs these days. As much of a fan as I am of Marathon Talk I kinda feel its getting a bit old of late.

    Today:

    13 miles in 1.57. 9.01 pace

I got a camelbak type bag which I ran with today. By far the best solution so far. had two gels too.

Struggled energy wise towards the end of this. I suppose the heat is probably a factor. But its also a reality check on how tough long runs can be.

The aim beforehand was 9 minute miles so I cant complain really.

    Today:

    3 miles in 23.00.

Felt good stretching the legs a bit.

    Tonight:

5 sticky miles in 38.52. Average pace 7.46.

Pace felt good and strong for last couple of miles. Got into the groove nicely!

    Tonight:

    3 miles in 22.24. 7.13 pace.

Lovely run in the rain. Felt really fast. Probably due to all the slower paced runs. Must throw in a few more faster runs. Keep it from being a slog!

    Today:

Plan A 13 miles. Naaa not in mood

Plan B Ten miles. try for pb. Naaa not fit enough.

Plan C ten k pb. Went with this for mile and a half but realised I was running too fast and had messed up pacing

Cue plan D 5 km pb attempt. Ended up with a 21.49. Training pb. And considering my 5k pb is from a questionable course this is probably the fastest ive ran one. Noice.

Not exactly top marathon training but good fun!

    Today:

    3 miles in 23.40.

Few days off between Arcade Fire and a trip up North. Plenty of bad food and laziness but I enjoyed it and thats what its all about.

Back to it today with a short run. Sun again. Im getting spoiled of late with this weather!

Time to hike up the mileage over next few weeks.

    Today:

    5.89 miles in 45.27.

Garmin issues here. id say this was actually done in about 48 mins.

This sticky weather is a killer.

    Today:

    7.84 miles in 1.02. Average pace 7.55.

Decent outing today. Felt good. Knees were giving a bit of grief but got better after a couple of miles. Miss judged the distance a bit so didnt make 8 miles but not to worry.

    This morning :

    6 miles in 50.52.

An attempt at a recovery run. Probably too fast.

Bought a new running vest Friday and it appears its a bit of a nipple grater. Even with vaseline. Not the nicest of feelings on a run.

Legs started off very heavy today. Again they were ok once they woke up a bit. Really I should have done a shorter slower recovery run today but I was very conscious of my low mileage this week.

Plan for this week coming is increase mileage to about 35 miles.

    Tonight

    6.2 miles in 47.10. Average pace 7.36.

Felt good and strong tonight. Ten k pb there for the taking id say.

Flipping weather. I was enjoying the thought of a run in the torrential rain. Then it brightens up half way. Roasted.

Encouraging thing about this is I didn't start looking for a pb so I actually sped up as I went on. Could definitely hold a faster pace. Long way off but id love a sub 45 ten k.

    This morning :

    13 miles in 2.01. Average pace 9.18.

Struggled with heat and nutrition again but that'll come with practice and trial and error. Positive thing is that legs felt good. Couple of miles of this on beach which slowed the pace too.

Great feeling getting these runs done.

Intended to be slow. Luckily as I was really feeling tired and lethargic. Combination of increased miles and lots of overtime in work has me banjaxed.

    This morning :

    13 miles in 2.07. Average pace 9.47.

This doesnt include a few quick stops to drink water from camelbak. waaaaay too hot for a long run but had to suck it up and fit it in.

Legs felt fine but heat was a killer.

    This morning:

    5 miles in 43.55.

Rough enough guess at distance. Left my garmin on all night so no battery this morning.

    Tough run. Felt tired, lethargic.

    Today:

    14.5 miles in 2.26. Average pace 10.09.

Goal was about a 10 pace so not too bad. Was meant to be 15 miles but stomach issues lead to an early finish.

I think im too negative about my running at times and it makes it a chore. I have to force myself out for long runs.

So on that note ...14.5 miles... fcuk yeah!!!

    Today:

    5km in 21.23. Pace 6.53. Training PB!!

Sometimes you just have to be stupid and try to run a 5km training pb when you're training for a marathon.

Delighted with that. Sub 21 definitely not far away on a cooler day.

    Today:

6 miles in 51 mins. avg pace 08.29.

Really not in the mood today. Stopped watch and sat on beach for about half hour half way through pondering life!

    Today :

    16 miles in 2.39.Pace 9.56.

Pretty spot on for pace as I was aiming for 10. Hard to pace too as I had wind with me on way out and against on the way back.

New route today to change it up a little. City centre out through clontarf and out to howth. Had a killer head wind in a few sections on the way back but I stuck to a pretty even pace.

Typical long run weather. everything from hailstones to hot sun.

Id say I had a few more miles in the legs but that being said they are sore now.

Overall very much a success :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,088 ✭✭✭LaHaine

Went to Lahinch for weekend. Two hours surfing both days but no running. Surfing is hard work.

Planned a semi long run Monday but I was all all sunday night with a stomach bug. Off work yesterday and today. Feeling a lot better now but not 100% at all.

Not the best preparation for the 10 mile race this weekend in Phoenix park. These things happen!

Some days you're the hammer and some days...the nail.

After a less than impressive build up to this I decided in my stupidity to forget that I hadn't run in a week and that I still wasn't feeling great and go for a big pb.

I started off at 7.30 pace which would be a huge stretch on a day where I was 100% let alone when I was far from it.

The first few miles actually went ok at this pace but, reality struck at about half way and from then on this was a struggle. Ended up with a time of 1.22.57 which isn't even a pb. Disappointing as I feel a 1.18 or so would be comfortable for me on a normal day.

I just had no energy - obviously I started way too fast but even regardless of that it just wasn't happening for me. Had quite a few moments where I was close to quitting to be honest so Im really glad that I kept going at least. I should really race more often, its a great way to test yourself.

Last three miles or so were horrible but I did manage a sprint finish which I was happy about. After the line I thought I was going to be sick but kept it down thankfully. I then began to cramp in my legs, which has never happened to me before. All signs of reality - I wasn't 100% and that came back to bite me. I think I was pretty dehydrated too.

Im not too worried overall - its still less than a minute off my pb on a day where I had a shocker. Today my legs feel like they've had a beating. Still hard to take it when you finish a race that goes badly. But onwards and upwards.

Hopefully ill be back feeling 100% for training this week.

    Thursday:

    6 miles in about 55.47.

Average pace 9.19. Truly horrible run. Felt like twenty miles. Picked a hilly course but still. legs were still killing me. Had a long bath Wednesday evening but that didn't solve it.

    Day off yesterday.

This morning17 miles in 2.51. Average pace 10.04.

Happy with pace. Very tough. Strong wind in my face the whole way back. Gosh I really struggle with these long runs mentally.

Delighted its done though. After a terrible weeks running where my legs were awful sore its good to end it on a high!

Lovely run in Phoenix Park. Bite in the air which im loving. Picked a pretty hilly route as my usual runs are all very flat and I want to build some strength in my legs.
