Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So I got to see mine for the first time today, man its good!

Size wise its pretty huge ok, but the colours, they are just so good! Delighted with the purchase!

I do have a stuck pixel though, it looks ok on a red screen, a blue screen and a black screen, but yellow, green or white you can see it. Im running UDpix on it at the mo, hopefully it can shift it but its not that noticable other than a really light screen.

Seller marked it as $100 value, but I guess DHL know the real price of a Catleap!

How much did you get done for? I asked mine to be marked as €99 gift :/

55 quid not too bad, did you order a cat leap or a different brand?

    jesus, 55?

how 55 for you and 22 for me.. the prices of the catleaps and potalions aren't so different that 23% of both would lead to almost double the vat

Yeah Catleap, 55 would suck, thats a fair bit. I would think the top end of what they would charge.

    Hey Guys,

I thought it would be a good idea to compile a list of who people were buying them off, price , how they got on with customs etc.

So i did a quick breeze through the thread and have made the following

    Catleap Club Boards

Could people please add the missing info if I've missed it (or correct any stuff i have wrong)

At the moment, unless he got hit for customs, Redisle's Shiman from DreamSeller @ €233 is the cheapest so far.

The cheapest confirmed price is Fiddlex's catleap from green sum @ €282 inc customs

The only confirmed case of Dead Pixels seems to be /\/ollog's :(

If you look at the link above, Its not up the higher end anyways, its the about the correct amount for what i paid. €70 is the highest so far.

I paid less for the catleap than you did for the potalion, I guess the reason the VAT was different is because customs know how much a catleap costs, and they havent figured out the real price of a potalion.

Id be suprised if you dont have to pay €55 Godfather.

I budgeted €300 for the monitor and with customs it came to that, so it could be worse. €282 is the cheapest confirmed price with customs so €18 on top of that is grand.

looking at that spreadsheet all the eventual costs seem to come in around 300 euro.. maybe customs are just taking on whatever vat they have to to bring it up there :)

I have Tuxy's monitor, bleed is no longer an issue, brightness was just set too high.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,556 ✭✭✭✭Sir Digby Chicken Caesar

yeah I turned my brightess down quite a bit and the bleed that I have is minimised quite a bit, i'm not really comfortable turning the brightness down any further though as then I'd have to fiddle with brightness/contrast settings in windows and I wouldn't be confident I could get as nice a picture as I have now. I tried and I think I got it looking good but I couldnt stop worrying that I'd just ruined the image... and even if I hadn't, constantly thinking that I had would be an issue in and of itself.

Has anyone had any joy un-stick pixels with the pressure method?

It would be really nice to get rid of it, but im very worried about making it worse!

Stuck pixels can be exceptionally annoying

  • Registered Users Posts: 196 ✭✭God Father

My white catleap has arrived and is set up.

No probs other than 1 stuck green pixel. It is only visible when on a black background so not so bad. I will prob have a go at getting rid of it.

The monitor looks great, happy I went with white.

Colour is great especially going from a matte samsung.

I will have a look for light bleed when it gets a bit darker.

Only had to pay €23 Vat so custums just charged me the vat @ 23% of the value I gave.

I'll throw up some photos in a while.

So delighted overall I was eyeing one of these for months now :D

I'm thinking this club has gotten big enough to redo the OP. I didn't think it would get this much attention so didn't really put any effort into it and people keep referring to the thread as suggestions in builds so we should spruce it up a bit :o

I'm working all week for 2 weeks so don't have much time, but if anyone wants to put a nice cover post together/or start it out, we could get a mod to edit my OP?

would be nice to include witnessmenow's table.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,507 ✭✭✭Nollog

yeah that seems right, people seem to be paying very little on something so dear, I paid as much on a few tshirts.

The Revenue charged me 112 Euro.

    lol.
Nah, on the bright side I think the pixels were just stuck. Either that or I've gotten used to them.
For sure a lot of them are gone anyway.

Well my Catleap arrived this morning, not 20mins ago.
Couple of things straight away, the delivery guy was witnessed dropping the package onto the floor of the reception area, apparently not knowing (or caring) what the plethora of FRAGILE stickers on the parcel meant.
Fedex didn't hang around and our receptionist asked about the customs charge to be told 'I only deliver, customs is other people' before (I'm guessing) petulantly storming out.
So no charge, is this unusual? Do they send out charges later by post? WTF in general?
I unpacked immediately and thankfully no obvious damage, but we'll see tonight when I plug her in.
Its big and damn pretty though. Lots of oohs and aahs from my jealous coworkers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,983 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

I'd say you have to be pretty unlucky for it to have been damaged. if you saw the tour mine took on the way to Ireland, I've no doubt it was dropped a few times. its packed very well though. best of luck anyway.

With a nice 12% "administration" fee and all.
DHL in fairness didn't charge me anything themselves I think, or maybe it was 2 euro. Something small or nothing.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,556 ✭✭✭✭Sir Digby Chicken Caesar

yeah dhl charged me 40 cent administration fee

wont lie, I was pissed off when I read the invoice this morning.

Well I'm posting this from my new build pc on my shiny new Catleap.
    Dear God, so many pixels.
I'll check them tomorrow for stuckness and whatnot, but so far, wow.
    Just freaking wow.

The stand though, is total rubbish. Even typing sends the screen jittering.
There has to be something can be done about that.

    Get a better desk :P

Mine is wobbely if i touch the monitor, but its solid from me typing/leaning on desk etc.

I've actually ordered a wall mount from Amazon, I'll post up pics and my thoughts on it when i have it stuck up. It has a fairly large reach which i need as my monitor is in the corner.

Are cheap VESA mounts worth it/safe? Back in the day they used to all be like €150 but with ones going for that money I'd be tempted. Have 2 SDS drills in the house so mounting them would be p1ss easy.

I opened a dispute with paypal and green-sum's going to have dhl collect it at their expense etc.
Said they had a hard time convincing the manufacturer that dark pixels were a defect, but now they are apparantly.
No idea what that means but *shrug*

Sent off an email to customs about replacements being exempt just to be sure, I'll call them when this cold gets out of my nose.

  • Registered Users Posts: 196 ✭✭God Father

I have just noticed that the left half of my Catleap is darker/more gray, than the right side. :(

It's noticeable on a white background but also on boards.ie, as the blue background on a thread is a darker blue on the left side. :( Bummer

Also a good bit of light bleed in the bottom left corner but that I find ok overall.

In fairness you cant really argue with that so far. Paypal disputes are crazy powerful for the buyer. Paypal will warn you when your dispute is going to expire, if you have not received ( different from being promised) a satisfactory resolution (refund/new monitor) make sure you escalate it. Say in the escalation report what the current status is (Even if its something like "replacement is on route, will update when it arrives")

Also make sure that the replacement is 100% as you want it, as you wont have a recourse if you close the dispute.

In happier news, my mount arm arrived. So I will be attempting to install that once my GF gets up (i dont think she'd appreciate the noise of the drill as she's sleeping!)

The mount I got was this one (get the one sold/fufilled by amazon for cheaper delivery)

I also got this 5m long dual link DVI cable that im happy to report works!

(just add something else to your basket to bring it over £25 to get free shipping on the above.

Looking gloomy on the 3rd party OC PCB front :/

So I got the monitor hung up on the arm last night.

Its tough enough to get the Catleap open to remove the silver arch, once its open its easy enough, although it really helps if you have a second person holding the panel as you plug back in the cables.

As for the stand/arm, well thats ok at the moment.

It seems easily strong enough to hold the monitor. And how easy/stiff it is to rotate can be easily controlled by tightening/loosing that bolt.

The problem with it is it has too much give where the monitor attaches to the arm, the monitor can be tilted left and right (not much, but easily enough to be noticeable) when it should not be able to at all. Its perfectly usable at the moment, but after it is moved I need to adjust it so its not crooked

I think the problem is I cant tighten the bolt that attaches the Vesa mount to the arm tight enough, It has a hand screwy nut and its in an awkward position, its just not possible to generate enough power to tighten it anymore. I think i might try get a nut i can tighten with a wrench to see does that make any difference.

no problem, I'll throw one up when i get home (and after I've cleaned my desk :) )

I didnt take any of the arch removing process and its fairly well described on overclock.net

Here is some pics of my White Yamakasi I got off BCC.

Pulled the old pc desk out of the garage, it needs a good sanding down but will do for now.

Also transferred my "bits" from a NZXT lexia blackline case to a Define R3 I picked up on Adverts last week.
Cable managment is at least now possible and I really like the case :) Have to move onto the floor though as it is still loud enough to annoy me.

Glad to hear you like the case :). I've been waiting to see the pics of the white Catleap here - I've been stalking this thread for ages and was pleased to see a white version came out, as I think it'll fit better with my current case, a white/black Corsair Carbide 500R.

Damn Steam sale is violating my credit card right now though but I still think I'm going to break down and order one of these soon...

How is a still going to show the difference between refresh rates? :pac:

Its obvious, when you watch a movie at 25fps a refresh rate of 120hz/60fps is a absolute must to experience it better.

No, what I'm saying is that comparing two pictures (stills) of a movie, one at 60hz and one at 120hz is utterly pointless as it's not showing the fluidity of 120hz - it's a picture!

And I'm saying that there isn't a difference when playing a movie in any case. You would only see a difference in gaming or using 3d interlacing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,600 ✭✭✭Eboggles

I don't know about anyone else but I hate watching movies above 25fps. It looks really shoddy and unprofessional, and makes me feel a bit queasy :o. I enjoy it in games though, anything less than 35fps is too slow.

There's a video of 50fps in this link

It's in the middle of the article.
