Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Has anyone heard anything about whens its to start and where will they start from, the charlestown side or the frenchpark side? I've heard rumours its going to take 2 1/2 years to finish pure bog they're going through?

    Id say wills prob be the contractor but the lowest price isnt the only factor. Would this be wills biggest job as a main contractor on there own? I cat remember to many jobs they did over 10km in lenght not being a subie or in a jv? .I dont think work will start till at least november as halcrow who are the clients rep are only putting there team together and theres no sign of a compound anywhere unless its hidden off the main road

    They did the Charlestown bypass, Ennis bypass etc

    Well N3 Belturbet bypass will have taken 2 years so maybe it'll be similar. No complex structures on this bypass.

    ANOTHER scheme starts while Newlands and the M11 gap are still mired in red tape and mucking about by the contractor. The NRA should really really take a hard line with them.

    With the ballaghadereen and the longford bypass both together should knock 30 mins off ballina or castlebar to dublin.
    Wills will do a good job, their HQ isnt far away, they did a good job in both the longford and cavan bypasses

    Strokestown to Ballaghadereen will still be in a generally woeful state. Search for "Tulsk" on this forum (if the search works) to see why it will be difficult to upgrade this too - lots of heritage sites adjoining the road, etc.

    Westport to castlebar both with no bypass. You also have frenchpark to strokestown and associated bypasses. Terrible roads there. Still they ain't too highly trafficked so with money scarce I can't see a good reason to do them before adare or cg

    Well whether he did turn up or not, it's great to see a large new road project getting underway - 13.5km of standard single AFAIK! :)

    With the above in mind, I guess all that's needed for now is a very simple bypass of Strokestown - it's virtually only a matter of straightening out the road - sure even a short section of reduced S2 would (with roundabouts either end) would do the job until the economy picks up.

    PS. I haven't been very active on the roads front in recent times as I'm currently very busy with online chess tournaments - I've 14 games in progress ATM!

    Got a brochure from the National roads design office in Roscommon outlining the route from Ballaghaderreen to strokestown . Now this is a few years old and appears to be at stage 3 at the time "Route Corridor Selection"... Not sure how relevant it is but see attached details..

    the archeology around Tulsk makes Strokestown - Ballagh too expensive. Better go Ballagh - Boyle and join the N4 as Westtip has tirelessly said. I never seem to get caught in Strokestown so I am not concerned about a short bypass there.

    Roscommon Co. Co. have taken the archaeological sites in to account looking at document I attached and speaking to the road design team they did not consider the carrick option. Eventhough it would be an alternative route it roughly 24 Km from Frenchpark (google maps) to Carrick and roughly 30 KM going to Strokes town would finish it, for the sake additional 6Km it wont be break the bank. Also Why would the govt have started the Longford Bypass to the N5 if not to join it up in time unless I am missing something . ;)

    True about the route selection . The N4 justifies a 2+2 or Motorway (Carrick-Mullingar) once the N5 joins as Westtip also pointed out. The N5 alone only warrants Reduced S2. Factor that in too.

    Well, if we're digging so deep trying to find alternative routes, why not think about upgrading miserable N17 between Charlestown and Collooney? ;)

    The part located between Charlestown and Tubbercurry goes very close to unused from ages railroad - and that is quite straight compare to the road itself, so it'd be (IMO) worth thinking about (don't know how that railroad goes further). :)

    I just checked my own records here that I keep and that project was indeed suspended in 2011, they must have reactivated it on the qt.

    It is one of the slowest and most dangerous stretches between Sligo and Galway. Hopefully it will be started this decade.
