Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Not a very confident interview this morning sounded kinda downbeat. Since he works in opposites that's probably a good thing!!!!

ya, he will probably go and blitz the field now. best of luck to him.

    -1 after five, good start.

Can't believe I haven't seen him take a shot on BBC yet especially considering as he's twice an open champion. McIlroy having a shocker!

    Good man.

Watching the golf on my laptop and TV. Harrington was just short for a birdie on 7 and is in a fairway bunker off the 8 tee, par will be a good result. Hopefully he can pick up something on the 9th.

Good save on 8, that a boy

    Bogey on 8.

    Bogey on 8.

Sorry on the bbc stream it said he had a par but your right it was a bogey.

Birdie on 9. -1 for the front 9

Looks like another rollercoaster for Harry.

2 birdies, 1 bogey and 6 pars is hardly a roller coaster.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,557 ✭✭✭sydneybound

Bogey on 10, so that's bogey birdie bogey on the last three...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,557 ✭✭✭sydneybound

3 bogeys on the back 9 means he's back to +2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,030 ✭✭✭Minderbinder

This hasn't been enjoyable at all today. The coverage has been poor and concentrating way too much on a select group of players for my liking. BBC totally ignoring some big names. And I'm actually sick of watching these guys hitting it out of the hay playing the lottery. I've decided I'm with Rory in disliking this kind of golf. Green > Brown

+2 isn't bad at all considering the afternoon scoring was difficult. He kept big numbers off the card which was a plus

I couldn't disagree more with this. I think four days of these conditions is fascinating to watch. Is it purely down to luck that many players scored 10-12 shots better than Rory today?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,557 ✭✭✭sydneybound

He should be within the top 50 by the end of the play. For his sake I'm hoping players start falling away!

No, but Rory's putting has left him down more than anything. I wouldn't say that the lottery of playing from the rough will be a deciding factor because almost everyone is finding it and knocking it up somewhere towards the green. But I find it quite boring when players can't go for pins but rather have to play the percentages.

It's been a really weird day. I mean for some reason 2 or 3 under doesn't seem brilliant and yet 5 over doesn't seem that bad.

They can "go for pins", they just have to figure out how to do so. I think it's brilliant that there is at least one week every year where a lot of imagination is required. Watching players select the club for a particular yardage and then aim straight at the flag is the thing that gets boring at times.

    +6 now.

what's the rule on the cut?

is it top 50 and all those within 10 shots?

thanks. needs at least one back i reckon

Cut most likely to be +5. He will need to finish 4 4 to qualify.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,109 ✭✭✭RikkFlair

Birdies 17, par the last and he should be ok

    edit: DOH!

  • Registered Users Posts: 165 ✭✭Deplasterer

No ten shot rule, bogey last, needs big help, probably miss out by one unfortunately.

Course is brutal, +6, might just sneak in.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,302 ✭✭✭Martin567

Not without a chance but the odds are probably against. He needs the scoring to be more difficult this afternoon. Currently T92 so needs 22 players to drop down to +6. This is possible as there are lots of players on +4 & +5 who haven't even started yet.

It should be clearer in about 3 hours what way the scoring is going. He probably deserves a bit of luck at this stage. If he misses the cut, it will be his third event in a row to miss by one.

It's only going to get worse too, would be very surprised if +6 doesn't make the cut. Harrington finished late yesterday and still climbed about 20 places from the time he finished to the end of play.

    Squeaky bum time

    Only if it's clean

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,302 ✭✭✭Martin567

Looks much more likely now that +6 will make the cut. When Padraig finished 2.5 hours ago, he was T92. He is now T81 with nearly 6 hours play remaining. That trend will hardly reverse now.

Yes will most definitely make cut, and deserves to, played well and wouldhave been at least 4 shots better if his putter had behaved. A nice early start tommorow and hopefully shoot 68 or better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 368 ✭✭markthespark77

tied 59 now, that should make the cut.

50:50 chance he'll be playing with Garcia tomorrow. Should be fun!

In standard European Tour events, it's top 65 and ties. PgaTour is top 70 professionals and ties. Are they playing PgaTour rules for the Open?

The R&A play to their own criteria so if it happens to be the same as some-one's else's, then so be it. The USGA do the same for the US Open.

Super performance from paddy to make the cut!

He's got a real fighting chance now going into the weekend!

Hope we see a bit more of him than the birdie putt they showed on the first day.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,666 ✭✭✭Howjoe1

we've seen a bit more today, but drop shots unfortunately.

Is there a real rift between him and Sergio? or is the subject just brought up because he beat him out of two Majors.

I think it is too much time with one of them that is doing the damage..
