Serious game of two halves today. Was a matchplay for our winter league quarter final. Lost my match to a very strong 9 handicapper. In fact the whole team got hockeyed, we only got one half :-(

Started bogey, par and went 2 down to par, birdie....then went on a great run for the rest of the front nine. Played some fantastic golf, finished +1 for the front nine (3 bogies, 2 birdies, 4 pars). Turned only 2 up, despite my superb start.

My troubles began straight away on the back nine. Short par 5 to start, pulled my drive a little left which meant my chance to go for the green in 2 was gone. My opponent is a huge hitter and was in a good position. I hit a sensible second and left a 90 yard sandwedge to the green. He hit a cracking second to about 15 feet. That put the pressure on me, struck my wedge really clean and straight but way too hard, it bounced over the back of the green and into the bushes. Hole lost.

On the 11th a par 3, hit a good tee shot as did my opponent. He then hit a poor enough pitch which gave me a great chance to win the hole. But I lifted my head and bladed my pitch and it scuttled across the green. Ended up halving the hole. Made a good par putt on 12 to save another half. Made a balls of 13 and lost the hole to bring the match back to all square. Then lost 14 to a par, just missing mine, and I was down for the first time since the 5th hole.

Had a shot on 15 and needed it to halve the hole. Then a nightmare on 16. Put my drive out of bounds, hit an ok 3rd, knocked down the 4th and hole gone, 2 down and dormie. He then hits a staggering drive down 17, I then stupidly tried to match it and pulled mine left under a tree. Then compounded the problem by trying to make the green with a 3-wood and ended up stuffing it into the spinney, match over.

Was a dreadful way to end the match. I had played so well early on but faded quite badly. That said I think he played to level par for the 17 holes! Still should have beaten him!

A poor days work today. New clubs & new swing meant I wasn't overly expectant of great results.

    Had 91 strokes.

    2 birdies
    3 pars
    6 Bogeys
    6 doubles
    1 treble

    5/14 FIR
    3/18 GIR

    1.83 putts
    1.33 putts per GIR

Really the biggest cost wasn't down to swing or club's, lost at least 10 strokes due to touch inside 50yrds & that is not an exaggeration

Was good to get out swinging & was a pretty good day for it too after the conditions for the last week or so

Feels like progress but a long way to go

V-Par comp today and finished 4up. Shot a 79 off 12. Hitting the ball well but still need to work on chipping and pitching. Only got up and down 5 times from 11. Still very happy with general play, more constant which is the name of the game.

Fantastic day out with Parlance and CharlieIRL, second time playing the Montgomerie and definitely not as intimidating as the first time, short game was poor but not overly concerned, did chip in on 16 Though :) completely new swing so the objective was to concentrate on my ball striking, had a brain freeze on 10 and 11 but got it back going until scratching the 18th.
Definitely tangible progress being made which is encouraging.
Finished with 32 points off 17 with two scratches 18 front 14 back.
    Roll on Esker

Am actually in bits here now after today! Fell off a horse Saturday morning and the first thing that went thru my mind was would I be to play golf!!

I used the same programme that I use to track my cycling to track my round today. Turned it on and left it in the bag. Interesting viewing. Last time I done this I had it in my bag on a trolly in new forest and we travelled 12k!!

    95 Gross
    35 points (I think)
2 Pars, the rest were un exciting lol

Irons working really well. Wedges and putting let me down today for the first time in a long while. Lipping out, missing by 1" etc with putting. Couldn't get the wedges to stop once on the green, pitched a lot of them a couple of feet or near on the flag only for them to roll 4-5ft on. Driving was mediocre apart from one. Drove 265 yards where it plugged then hit a really good 5w only to land 5 feet short of the green and roll back on a par 5,then 3 putted around the hole!

    118 today in Enniscorthy!

    1 Par
    4 Bogies
    4 Dbl Bogey
    9 Scratches

1st card towards getting handicap. Had a few horrible holes(2 10s!!).
Cant use a driver yet, thats next lesson, hoping that will help a bit.

Stick with it man ! That par you had is enough to show you that the potential is there. Best of luck & enjoy the game.

5 over on back 9 on The Heritage .
Was a gale at times. For example 6 iron went 240 yards on 11.

    So very happy with that.
Only 14 putts. Was looking to break the 15 per nine for a while.

Course unbelievably dry on fairways. Ball will plug off them.
Bunkers are just Impossible to maintain there, talking to lads , I can see them filling a few.
    It is an amazing place.

very strange to see the big clubhouse locked up and closed in evening. It is winter, it makes economical sense.

But still mind blowing the scale of it all.

Played the front 9 in Rathcore today, then went up the road to pick up a 3 wood and managed to make it back in time to finish.

Don't have the card on me at the minute but I did add up the front 9 earlier. 19 points somehow with bad driving.

Driving was far better after I came back to the back 9 and love the new 3 wood. Scores weren't as good as wind picked up a lot but happy overall.

Played front 9 in Grange Castle today . First time since iv changed my grip that it felt really natural .

17 points in a gale force wind at times , chip shots around greens today really let me down but was really happy how i played especially my Driving .

Out tomorrow for a full round and am confident of breaking 36 points for the first time , Lets hope the wind dies down a bit .

37 points for 18 holes in Esker hills today, playing off 5

Very happy with it, despite having a blank on the 16th. The 3 birdies more than made up for it :)

    38 points today . 23 front 15 back .

Dighthed to get over the 36 mark for the first time . Front nine was the best golf iv played since iv start playing (18 months) was 10 strokes over par .

Back 9 was a struggle in the wind with good shots been punished , Scrathed 10 and 13 . 13 was hard to take as i was 10 yards from the green in 2 , only to duff a chip into a bunker and take 2 to get out of it and miss 2 putts .

I really struggle with chips shots where they are that bit to far out to bump an run a 6 iron onto the green . Practice at these shots are top of myto do list .

Finished with 2 pars from putts 10 or so away , But was only 50 yards from green on 18th hitting my 3rd shot but yet again shot game let me down .

That was my 1st card out of 3 for my HC .

not sure whether or not you're aware Danny but just make sure, for your handicap cards that you are holing out & not writing scratches on the card, pretty sure they want to see strokes taken on every hole

handicap cars are based off a max of double bogey per hole basis
If you are higher or scratch then it is deemed a double bogey

27 points for 13 holes today at a windy Ballykisteen. Course was in surprisingly decent shape considering the storm last week and the weather for the last few months.

3 pars (including the index 11th which was into the teeth of the wind and consisted of a driver, 5 wood, wedge and a 5 foot putt. I failed to par that hole in the whole summer last year when conditions were as benign as could be!)
    9 bogeys
    1 double

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 252 ✭✭BOB81

Played in the fourball matchplay in the european club yesterday and we won on the 18th. I holed a 12 footer for a half on 17 and then my partner managed to par the last for the win after everyone else in the group bottled it and went into the water - while it makes for good matchplay I'm still not convinced that water belongs on that hole!
Conditions were fairly tough - it was dry but there was a brutal wind off the sea so on the back 9 meant that we were struggling to stay balanced on some shots. Worked out my points afterwards and it was 26 points, with 4 3-putts my goal of breaking 30 points around the european club has once again not been reached (think thats about 7 or 8 goes at it now!)

79 blows around the monty course in carton house today, (44points off 12) with a stupid double on the first:eek: 1 over on the back 9 so finished strong, course is in decent nick some wet patches as could be expected, and bunkers were in play. only found two of them thankfully so that's reflected in my score.

79 gross around Portmarnock Links in an open competition on Saturday off 2.

A disappointing number even if it was a tricky day, quite windy and cold. Got off to a dreadful start with bogies on 1,2,4,5 and 6, four of which were caused by 3 putts. Was blaming the wind for the first 2 short ones missed, but became increasingly nervous over them as the day progressed; suffice to say, the weapon in question has had its services suspended for the foreseeable future.

On the other end of the spectrum however, I was absolutely thrilled with my driving. The only fairways I missed all day were in bunkers: one right down the middle on 2, one taking up half the fairway on the left of the 10th and one greenside on 14, so that wasn't too shabby.

There were other positives to take. Despite my putter being D.O.A, I felt I was reasonably patient, with the exception of 12, (where I made a messy double after another perfect drive) and was eventually rewarded, as I managed to play the last 5 holes in -2. Even if it was only to break 80, I'll take a fair bit of encouragement from that and am very excited for the season to start in earnest.

    81 around Esker Hills.

Had a good chance of breaking 80 away from home - a little target of mine for the next year.

Putter didn't happen - 35 putts. Too many. With some bad 3 putts.

But happy with that - a few things coming together again. Good tee to green,
Not striking the irons perfect - but even my poor irons are in play. Short game, up and down.
Driver behaving a bit better - but not using it much.

Before summer starts - will get back into short game again, this stuff should be back in good condition at my club in March (much work going on) - bunker shots have gone poor, not aggressive enough on short ones, putting I feel is actually improving)

    Something to work off.

Taking a little break from range - body telling me to. Putting green and short game area for a month or so. I've been playing too much golf - but loving every bit of it.

83 strokes on Sunday. Course very wet. Bunkers GUR. Placing everywhere.

    10 pars.
    5 bogeys.
    3 doubles.

3 topped drives cost me. Happens now and then, but the driver is the only fear club right now. Chipped and putted very well at the start and was + 2 for ten.

All the hard work during the ads while watching the WGC paid off.

Played Lisheen springs for the first time today in a gale, ball was being blown on the green and off the tee on some holes, despite that I scored well, had 18 points on the front nine(+2) and was even par up until 14 when I had to go due to work, driving was good, long irons were good(one of the part 3's is 140 yard right into the gale, hit a 4 iron and barely struggled to get onto the green. Just glad to be out playing!!:)

Got out this evening & managed to get 9 in. Ended up +1..
    6 pars
    1 birdie
    2 bogey's
Happy considering I was 2 over after 3.
    15 putts & 6 from 7 fairways, 5 GIR

  • Registered Users Posts: 202 ✭✭3putt

Got out yesterday in castleknock. It was blowing a gale. 31 points which wasn't too bad with the wind. Course in great nick.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,726 ✭✭✭dan_ep82

Got out today for a quick 18 in Moor Park. Actually managed to play a few holes in a shirt (non thermal!) so either way I was happy.

    86 Strokes
    1 Birdie
    5 Pars
    9 Bogeys
    3 Doubles
No 3 putts. No drop shots.

    I think 45 points off 23HCP.

Left alot of shots out there. Topped 5-6 shots. Landed short of the green 4-5 times chipping in and never really got too close to the flag.

Driver really consistent today using the same techniques as the last day in Rathcore. If I didn't hit the fairway I was within 15ft off the Tee.

Going to concentrate more on my wedges, mainly my 60° as its slipped in the last while.

Very happy even for a casual round
